Dallas is depending on these guys:
Hayden - Didn't play in 2012
Selvie - Cut by multiple other teams
Nevis - Cut by two other teams this year
Edgar Jones - Career special teams player
Rayford - 27 year old NFL rookie

When Ware and Selvie were out a significant amount of time in the second half last week, they were replaced by Edgar Jones and 2nd year player Kyle Wilber (4th round pick).

The backup DEs in Seattle are Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett and 1st round pick Bruce Irvin.

Correct. And Dallas still averages a sack more a game this year.
Which goes to show just how good Ware really is.
Dallas has a much better starting front 4 if all are healthy because they have by far the best player of that group.
SEA has much better depth.

All in all it is fairly even provided Ware stays on the field and is healthy.

But compare that to Safety where SEA features Earl Thomas and we counter with a 4th rounder starting his first season and another 4th rounder from a small school who is a rookie having started 1 game ever.

But to anyone with eyes that watched the game the biggest difference versus San Diego was Dallas can't stop a simple slant or wheel route. Those are middle school routes.

Righhhttt... and you are adding so much agenda-free data to the discussion.

Our DL was getting zero rush last week largely because the best pass rusher was on the sideline with back spasms, the 2nd best was on the sideline in street clothes and the 3rd best is somewhere plotting to destroy the owner.

But it also had a lot to do with San Diego abandoning any desire to throw more than 3 step drop passes until they wore down a banged up defense.

But let's not compare apples to apples at all.

How many 5 yard slants does Seattle give up?

The season isn't 1 week long. After two weeks Dallas was amongst the best pass rushing teams in football with 10 sacks through 2 games. They lead the NFL in time of possession and ball control offense.

The game was lost by poor coverage and heinous WR play not in the trenches.
Our OL/DL play has been a plus this year. But the crying ninnies only care that they can cry so they forget to consider why they should be crying.

Way to move the goal post
You said that our DL was "interchangeable with that of seattle"
I can understand why you might not want to own that statement

So now the excuse is that DL pressure is important but we have injuries ?

This gets back to poor planning , it was known that rat was getting older and has been less effective and may miss part if the year

It was known that ware is getting older and was banged up last year and gas had arm and back issues

None of these were a surprise

Part of the reason we are not ready for this us because we spent multiple Hugh picks and a boat load of money in CBs

How is that working out?

The games where we rushed the ball effectively and led in TOP we were 2-1 and were in the lead in the first half if this game when we were rushing better

The game where we did not, we are 0-1

Yeh but this gets back to planning ahead and allocating resources effectively

If you pay an average OLB 20 million over 2 years and spend multiple high draft picks and millions on CBs, you will have less money to build depth

Injuries are not a surprise in the NFL , they are the expectation
Every team deals with injuries , the ones that contend are the ones that plan better, have better depth

Seattle values the DL, they went and got Bennett even though their DL was already. Strength for them

What do they have that we're missing and what tweaks to the scheme did they make? I see their corners up at the line of scrimmage a lot more. Is that something we can do here too or would that compromise the scheme?

From what I can tell, Seattle's defenders play with an attitude and are incredibly physical. They are going to beat you down the entire game.

Dont rule out the influence of Carroll, he has ooooooh about 30 years of defensive coaching experience.

Bruce Carter went from looking like a potential pro bowler to chasing shadows around the field. Something isnt right with this scheme.

I thought Carter had position on Woodhead on the first touchdown. Rivers put the ball on him perfectly, if Rivers puts the ball to inside Carter knocks it down. On the second one, Carter played it badly, he bit on the shoulder fake and let Woodhead run the wheel route on him. Don't know if he was expecting over the top help on that, but he did play it badly. Let's give SD credit, Woodhead is a shifty runner, similar to Sproles. Any linebacker will have fits with him in the open field.

Carter was playing well in the scheme before that though, lets give him a pass. Unless it's a consistent issue, I would not worry much.

Physical corners with length. Safeties that hit hard and can catch the ball.

Defensive line depth that allows them to rush in waves.

Swagger.

Other than that, they are the same as the Cowboys.

If you want to quote for truth, try making sure it is actually true.

The Seahawks are solid along both lines but are hardly world beaters. In fact they are quite average.

The Seahawks run the ball "pretty well" but only because Russell Wilson runs it well and often. He has over 130 yards and ~5.0 YPC.
Marshawn Lynch is at 3.9 yards per carry and 308 yards. That's below DeMarco Murray in both stats.
Remove Wilson as runner and the Seahawks are bottom half the league in average and total yards.

On DL they have a solid run stuffing base but they are lesser pass rushers than us except when Ware is out dinged.
But the secondary has 7 picks and also provides press coverage taking away so much every play.

If you took and replaced the Dallas and Seahawks OL/DL the results would hardly change at all.

It is the Seahawks variable offensive attack with Wilson as a rushing threat and their unique secondary that are so very different.
Earl Thomas is an All Pro Safety. They have a Pro Bowl CB. And often times those two get outplayed by their counterparts.
They also have a monumental home field advantage where teams can seldom audible and thus play MUCH better at home.

Wilson running is not different. There are several teams with QBs who can run the football. Marshawn Lynch is 6th in the NFL in rushing currently. Murray is 3rd. Seattle can run the ball and it's not just because of Wilson. Last year, Lynch was 3rd in the NFL in rushing. In 2011, before Wilson ever showed up in Seattle, Lynch and that OL still rushed for over 1200 yards, 4.2 YPC and 11 rushing TDs. It's also, very much, about Lynch and that OL controlling the LOS. I don't disagree that Wilson adds to that offense with his ability to run the ball but that's still the OL blocking for him so I don't know howthat translates into the OL not being all that good.

Of course the defense is important but without that front seven, they would be out to dry. They only have to cover for 10 to 15 yards in that scheme. If they could not get pressure and simply had to cover, they would not look as good and their size and speed in the secondary would be a liability.

Regardless, they do all the right things to help themselves and very few things to hurt themselves.
