I am not holding my breath on Tyron Smith.

I'm not either. As @fivetwos (cohesion) @Doomsday101 (continuity) pointed out, I'm not sure if I would change anything. But the dude is a stud when healthy, and if he's healthy and in shape, which he always is, I would look at it. On paper, having Tyron at LT and Tyler at LG is SCARY.

With his injury I don't think you can do a lot, cardio wise. So he might not even be able to play 4 quarters. Glad I'm not a coach.

I think he will be used as a swing tackle pretty much insurance should we take an injury.

Everyone makes valid points. I'm sure the Cowboys will keep a good eye on Tyron once he's able to practice. Pretty sure they will evaluate him in practice for several weeks just to make sure his hamstring will hold up before they decide whether he should start or stay as a backup for now. Regardless, it's great news to hear of Tyron's improved health. What a great problem to have to have another old weapon back on the Oline as needed. Just in time for the end of the season and playoffs.

I'm not moving Tyler Smith. He's the future. Tyron can get in where he fit in. Let's be honest with ourselves. Tyron IS going to get injured again. Time to stop depending on him at such an important position.

i see it as ..

LT - Tyron Smith
LG - Tyler Smith
C - Biadasz
RG - Martin
RT - Steele
_______________
Or ............
Tyler Smith
Tyron Smith
C - Biadasz
RG - Martin
RT - Steele

i had previously thought about just making Tyron a top reserve at OT, being so very late at the end of the season, or playoffs
but despite the decline and lack of durability, he and Tyler are still better top- five players than Conner McGovern.
they have to find ways to incorporate them both into the starting lineup. We have to have one of them replacing the Governor at LG.

Then why were so many people wanting the Cowboys to make a trade to upgrade the OL?

Old cliché but they really did like their guys.
It appears to me Tyron has unreliable physical for sometime. That’s the fear but it can be addressed off season

I’m shocked he even has a shot to play this year. Regardless of whether he’s realistically getting closer or not, just sounded like an injury that would 100% end your season.

Especially someone who’s as injury prone has Tyron is.

3-4 weeks until his 3 week practice window. If he takes the full window that would be 6-7 weeks before he plays in a game.

FRISCO, Texas - By almost anyone's estimation, the Cowboys offensive line has under-promised and over-delivered through the first eight games of the season.

With so much uncertainty across the board before the season even began with the exception of All-Pros Zack Martin and Tyron Smith, the offensive line had its fair share of doubters before they ever left for training camp.

Then on the last day of training camp after returning from Oxnard, Calif., Smith went down with a non-contact injury. By the next morning it was said that he would miss the majority of the season with a hamstring injury.

But earlier this week, Cowboy chief operating officer Stephen Jones said on 105.3 "The Fan" that he expected Smith to return to action in about 3-4 weeks, meaning after Thanksgiving is a possibility.

What that OL looks like will likely depend on how well they play when the competition steps up over the next few weeks. If they handle their business and beat up on the Packers/Vikings/Giants then I bet they don't change anything.

For the sake of this argument, let's assume Tyron is healthy and ready to play. It does pose a dilemma for the Cowboys. Tyler is clearly the better run blocker. Sorry Tyron fans, but Tyron is too stiff and slow from his injuries. But I do think he is better, or was before his injury, pass blocking than Tyler, even though Tyron has lost some lateral quickness. You can't rotate them so one has to sit or more to another position. But if Tyron starts at LT, does that hurt the run game to that side of the field?

The Cowboys are not saying what they will do and for good reason. No sense upsetting the apple cart when there is a possibility at any time that an offensive lineman could get injured leaving room to get Tyron and Tyler on the field together without having to demote anyone from the LT spot.

8 games are in the book and it will be at least 7 More games before Tyron is ready to play again. There is a good chance game 17 won't matter so it would be a good time to get Tyron some playing time before the playoffs. We'll have to see how the season goes, but if the Cowboys are still winning games by the time they face the Titans on Dec 29, and they need that game, I don't see how they make a change at that point.

We will be foolish to trust Tyron ever again.his body has given up on football.

Amazing how people here still fawn over how the OL will be when Tyron comes back. The guy just can't remain healthy. We all knew he would break down sometime during the season, and he didn't even make it to the season. It is a little too misguided to trust and depend on not only him coming back, but then performing above average. He is not the same Tyron from 5 years ago. Fans think of him that way. Just accept this is the OL for better or worse

Barring injury, the O-line will look the same as it does now. Tyron should not get his job back. He can retire or request a trade after the season is over because he should be relegated to the bench waiting for someone to get hurt.

Tyron just can’t stay healthy and expecting him back or worse counting on him to come back is just not smart and even if it happens it won’t be for long, but if he somehow gets healthy this year there is zero chance he plays anywhere other than LT. I’m very excited to have Tyler for a decade and hopefully at LT but he’s moving to OG if they both play just like he was going to alloffseason and the idea it will stall his progress is silly. He’s got plenty of time to play LT and it’s fine if it pauses for a game or two for him to play next to a sure fire hall of famer. Also silly is the idea Tyron (if and stressing IF he is healthy) will be a swing tackle while we are trotting McGovern out there. I mean, really? Get the best 5 out there.

to be fair, all of the OL are going to get hurt.

on any given play.

Most of them play without braces.

If Tyron is healthy and an get 1/2 games to kick the rust off you play him at LT and kick Smith inside to LG.

Smith has played admirably filling in but a rusty Smith, if healthy, is a better LT.
