What really is wrong with this team, my views

Like many of you I wasnt very happy with the game. Was very disappointing to keep seeing the cowboys commit 4 tournovers, while getting no turnovers. Poor passing by Romo, constant lack of tackling by DB's, with the list I could go on and on. But let me break down what I see, the obvious and hidden things.

First, lets start with Romo, he had a very poor game, you just cant keep making the same dumb mistakes in big huge games like the Seattle Playoff game, the Giant Dallas playoff game in 2007, the Raven game last year, the Pittsburgh game last year where Romo says I cant keep making these mistakes or the game last night with 3 interceptions by Romo. The offensive line opened holes for the running game and kept Romo upright pretty good to throw passes, but it seems like every big huge important pressure game, Tony Romo falters. There should be no more excuses for Romo, time to either step up or shut up.

Second, lets start with preseason games, in fact lets go back the last 2 years on defense, including last year. Wade installed some blitz packages, etc, with stewart, but the players including greg ellis said he needs to make it more simple for us to grasp. So, wade scalled back the defense, and cowboys played good till opposing offenses figured out their base defense and beat them. This offseason wade said, after the tampa bay game, that he should have done alittle more on blitz packages, dogs and other defensive packages but you saw the results in the first half in the tampa bay game. Wade had to scale the defense back, the cowboys played better, but wade said I DIDNT PLAY THE BLITZ PACKAGES AS MUCH AS I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE BECAUSE I DIDNT WANT TO GET PLAYERS HURT! Well, the jets installed new blitz packages, and you saw the results the last 2 games. The Jets got sacks, and interceptions, but the cowboys have yet to have a sack or an interception. Why are the cowboys trying to play catch up on defense when they should have been practicing those plays in training camp and the preseason games? That to me wasnt good head coaching, especially on the defensive side. So, do the players have the mental toughness to really get the plays down on defense and offense to not let them keep happening on dumb mistakes? Or is it that the players arent willing to work hard enough in practice or the coaches work the players hard enough in practice till they get the plays down. If you keep having to run same old plays on offense and defense, your going to get beat because teams are going to figure out what your doing.

Third, now lets go to the players, and did Jerry Jones get his money worths last night.
How much did Tony Romo get, 67 million dollars to play like that last night?
How much did Ken Hamlin get new contract? 39 million, have u seen hamlin make any plays last 2 weeks?
How much did Flozell Adams get? 42 million, how many drives has flozell killed with stupid penalties?
How much did CB Newman get? 50.2 million, Newman wanted to be paid as one of the top cbs in the league, did Newman earn that money last night?
Roy Williams contract got 45 million, he caught one pass last night; 1 Pass

Did these players that wanted huge money did they earn their money last night? Where is the heart, intensity, dedication, killer instinct? Some players said they really wanted to win for Jerry Jones with how he pays the players, giving them a brand new stadium to play in and be their stadium. I question that from the above players that I mentioned. You as players say you care about the fans, Jerry Jones, but you sure didnt play like it last night Romo, Flozell, Newman, Hamlin and Roy.

Some play calling on offense, lets go to Jason Garrett in the 4th quarter with still plenty of time, 12 minutes to go in the game, Garrett has Romo in the shotgun, every one in the stadium knew what the cowboys were going to do. Why in the world were you in the shotgun showing pass on first down? .

Now lets go to penalties, the cowboys have cut down on penalities, but with flozell stupid killer drives and bobby carpenter fiasco, those killed and allowed drives to continue. That has got to stop, when in the heck are players like Flozell and Bobby Carpenter going to be held accountable. You just cant talk and say stop the penalities, you have to call out the players and make them accountable to the whole team. Doesnt matter if we never hear that if it comes in the locker room, but players must be made accountalbe. Its not what or how you say its your fault, its what you do to correct those mistakes from happening again.

Next, the switching of cornerbacks, and lack of tackling in practice in training camp. But how can players like Scandrick be accountable to poor tackling when you dont allow him to practice full time at one position and you dont allow him to tackle in practice, training camp. That to me sounds like poor coaching, as well as the player not getting ready mentally and physically.

Finally, the score at one point was 31 to 30 with cowboys ahead, that is when players step up, say enough is enough, they make the big plays on defense. They stop opposing teams from scoring, with an attitude, instinct, heart and killer instinct, the cowboys lack this killer mentality. To put teams away when you get the momentum. This team is its own worst enemy, when the game is on the line, big plays are needed at the end to step up, the cowboys shoot themselves in the foot. That to me is lack of heart, desire, intensity to see that it doesnt happen. That may go back to some practice habits in practice during the week. Like the Cowboys said, lets do it the Cowboys way or finish the play, but the cowboys dont finish the play.

Excellent post Cowboyjoe.

I've been thinking of what I'd do to "turn things around". 1. Any players who jumps offsided on a critical down must run a lap around the stadium as soon as his unit leaves the field. This will be announced on the loudspeaker for all to see and hear. 2. When the team plays poorly, there will be no "day off". Instead of a day off, there will be two practices IN PADS to refocus the team.

I may post other ideas as I think of them...
