It's not always about the big picture. If the Cowboys were 3-14 or 4-13 last year, I would be super happy if we won a playoff game.
I’ll he super happy if we win 1 or 2 or superbowl
I won’t be upset for very long if we don’t win any it’s still been a good year
It’s just not that serious for me any longer

Does it have to be Super Bowl or failure?

How many predicted or expected us to win it all? How many gave up entirely after week one?

We haven’t won a road playoff game in 30 years, now we need to win THREE just to get IN to the big game.

We apparently stink on grass, and Tampa Philly and SF all have just that.

Maybe this is just me officially lowering my own expectations, which is probably long overdue, but who may be ok with the following, considering winning it all is probably well above and beyond what could realistically happen….?

Let’s say we beat Tampa. Not far fetched and I expect it actually. We finally beat Brady and end the road playoff streak. In blue nonetheless. Nuts.

There’s some solace in those two things, but a loss the following week means we still can’t get past the Garrett peak level with MM three years in. This was NOT a rebuild. It’s a fail to now in that case, and the window isn’t open forever.

But let’s say we then head to Philly, play to our true capability and knock them off in their house after the season they had. Now there’s some satisfaction.

With that we also broke the non NFC title game appearance streak.

If from there it all comes to a non heartbreak, nor fully embarrassing loss to a 49ers team whose GM wasn’t afraid to make the necessary moves to get them over the top…..

Considering all….I mean, the self inflicted limitations this franchise faces that isn’t going to change…. I may be able to see this as a successful season. In a way it’s loser talk, but you’ve gotta crawl before you can walk. Lots of droughts are broken under this scenario at least.

Would the arrow be pointed upward from there? I’m not sure….but the refusal of the Joneses to make two or three significant upgrades to put this team over the top is bordering on pure crime. That’s certainly a big topic for a few weeks from now. We may never again see a weaker NFC.

Anything less than a Championship is going to carry disappointment, but I suppose I’m already looking for silver linings since I have a reasonably good idea of what’s ahead.
Amazes me how some try to quantify lowing the bar of success....Just unbelievable. This is the flagship of the NFL. You don't lower the bar to justify mediocrity.

Really depends. We've had a successful regular season, so....

We must beat TB. We're only 3 point favorites, though, so it could be a close game.

If we lose in the divisional round, it would really depend on how we lost. A very close game against a good opponent and both teams play a great game? Somebody has to win, so I can't say that simply losing in the divisional round would make me label the season unsuccessful.

Georgia squeaked into the national championship courtesy of a missed FG at the end of the game. Was OSU's season unsuccessful? I don't think so (I hate OSU). If they'd made that kick, would UGA's season have been unsuccessful? Not imo.

If we stink up a w/c or divisional playoff game, I'd label the season unsuccessful. If we make the NFCCG, it's a successful season regardless of the result.

Bouncing Brady is tough but it's doable. I'd give us a coin flip chance.

I don't think we have the horsepower to beat the Eagles or the 49ers this year.... if we play them 10 times at full health, we probably lose 8 or 9 of those games. So knocking Brady out of the playoffs is my Super Bowl. Frankly, that'd be delicious, and I'd gloat about it for years. But beyond that, I have no expectation for success.

It's kind of like the Tebow Broncos. Everyone remembers his glorious last second TD against the Steelers. No one remembers the Patriots obliterating Denver that next week and Tebow throwing 9 for 26.

Tbh though, getting bounced in the first round is basically par for the Cowboys course this side of Campo. It's not good, but it's not an injury derailed Ben DiNucci led campaign either, so it could have been worse. Winning one playoff game would definitely make it one of the top 5 Cowboys seasons this century.

A hell of a lot lower than in the 90’s. Many compare this franchise to what it was back then and I don’t.

I consider the playoff record since then and winning one is progress.
How is winning a wildcard game progress when Jason Garrett did the exact same thing:huh:

Wasnt the whole point of hiring MM was to take the team beyond what Garrett had accomplished? Otherwise, why didnt we just keep Garrett then, he won wildcard games every now and then.

12-5 with playoff berth, I mean come on guys,

preseason, post game 1 this place was 75% we would have a losing season said it was a HISTORICALLY BAD OFFSEASON. Thats a fact, do we need to go open those old threads? we can find a lot of media coverages with 8 wins being predicted?

so already successful overachieved etc anything else is frosting. you can't have it both ways no talent average roster with bad coaches and horrible gm and somehow, we end up 12-5 after losing a ton of good players throughout the season.

we are already in the bonus.
