What scouting reports said about Cowboys WR Noah Brown: He plays like a power forward, battering ram

All kinds of draft grades and evaluations of NFL prospects have come out since the draft. Here are some tiny snippets of what scouts and media websites were saying about seventh round pick Noah Brown prior to the draft.

NFLDraftScout and CBS Sports' Dane Brugler:
Brugler had Brown ranked as his 26th best receiver of 67 prospects.

Strengths: Impressive size dimensions with a powerful build, long arms and large hands ... Beautiful body control to make controlled adjustments on the ball ... Tough over the middle with the body armor to endure contact.

Weaknesses: Not an explosive mover and his speed is more build-up than instant ... Hears footsteps and loses focus, resulting in drops away from his body ... inefficient move blocker and needs to better break down and square up.

Verdict: The raw measureables are intriguing with his size, strength and athleticism, attacking the football like a power forward with ease of movement and large mitts. However, Brown is unpolished as a route runner and his overall inexperience with the details of the position show on tape.

Buy his full scouting report -- with more than 400 prospects -- here.

NFL.com's Lance Zierlein:
Strengths: Willing and able to work through traffic and can stomach collisions to secure the catch. Strong hands pluck and secure low throws and balls that sail ... Plays the game like a battering ram at times.

Weaknesses: Cornerbacks do not appear to fear his deep speed ... Gives away route breaks with early deceleration. Struggles to gain anything more than functional separation against man coverage.

Verdict: If he can improve his route running and contested catches, Brown should become an NFL backup with a chance to work into a more predominant role.

Not sure I know any power forwards that are 6'2", but anyway they make him sound like Dez, don't think he has that kind of freaky athleticism coming out the draft as Dez did.

Probably will compete with Butler though, not like Butler is all that motivated to do anything other than collect a check. Butler and your one year deal, since that worked out so well with Mo....writing is on the wall. Only offensive players we drafted were 2 WRs, duh. And I could see another one next year, a bit higher than Switz.

We could always kidnap Julio, just thinking outside the box...

He has some very nice physical skills but is raw. Like his upside. I wonder if Dallas could sneak him onto the practice squad.

Or, do they look to carry 6 WRs. I can't imagine they'd roll with him as the 5th WR when he is a Dez or Terrance injury away from starting as an outside WR. I think they will keep Butler on the roster since he has experience in the offense. Brown basically had one year of playing experience in an offense that isn't similar to what we run.

Butler has that thing you cannot teach, speed. I have high hopes for Noah Brown he has a presence when he is on the field and must be accounted for otherwise your lip will be bleeding and wondering what hit you. I see him as a larger Golden Tate, with catching ability that is similar. Not elusive but smaller cb's might make some business decisions on how to deal with him.

Lol you guys and this Butler/speed nonsense. He caught a bunch of 10-15 yard passes. Remind me of the deep balls he caught

Butler also has a thing that you can't get rid of, laziness. Its shows in most to the routes he runs.

I hope he can beat out Butler, but it is about that time to throw some real talent at the position, Dez isn't getting any younger and we could use another threat on the outside. Sure people see Brady has won without it, but you see they picked one up this year. We don't have Brady, we do need it, and I do commend the FO for starting to see it by drafting 2 WRs.

I figure we will go bigger (by that I mean more resources in the draft) next year.

Butler and Whitehead better watch out man, this guy can really be effective after the catch.

Yeah, if you're looking for a power forward, give me Rico over Noah. But it looks like Brown could develop into a decent possession receiver and a very good run blocker.

Yeah, I know what they mean in power forward, he is boxing out guys who are 5'10", but Dak has already shown he isn't comfortable just throwing it up in this situation. Now him and Dez got better towards the end of the season, but it does take some learning curve from even Romo to get used to trusting to do this with a WR. Sorry, it would take a while to get used to trusting Noah in that situation against NFL talent.

Much rather the guy can get some separation and actually be open if he's not realllllly athletically gifted like Dez. Mr. Hamstrings Austin was an UDFA, but he did get separation.

What this could really come down to is how well Noah Brown plays on special teams. If he can be a gunner - or block punts - then that might be the edge needed for the Cowboys coaching staff to look in his direction. Backup players MUST EXCEL in special teams in my book. Noah Brown will not be placing any of the top three receivers on the bench come September.

I know I've said it before but I have to say it again. I'm really digging this one. & it's not because he and I share the same first name.

The last guy we had with these tools was that guy most loved to hate. My boy. Terrell Owens.

Not sure what Mo has to do with Butler. At all.

Noah might not be ready to push Butler off the roster this year. Give him a PC year learning and next year he will be a much better player.

If they give you a one year deal, your replaceable or they are looking to replace you......that's what it has to do with Mo.

Highly likely scenario. But if he excels, really pushes Butler during training camp, & performs in the pre-season I wouldn't have any issues with that either.
