What should we do with Tucker?

Now with the signing of Fabini and Columbo and Pettiti and possibly a potential draftee on the way Tucker's chances of making the squad at Tackle seem negligible.

I think the best thing to do is give him a shot at OG. I feel he has always been miscast at tackle because he just doesn't have the feet needed for pass protection to succeed out there. He is a very powerful drive blocker and has the athletic ability to pull which makes him more ideally suited to OG if he can handle the mental challenges of the position.

Any opinions on this?

I agree and if i remember correctly he was rated as the #2 guard coming out of college but went undrafted.

I see many people mention Columbo when they post about the Oline. But, Columbo is an unrestricted free agent, and has not been re-signed by the Cowboys as of this moment.

I thought he signed at least a two yr deal because most of us felt he'd use last year to get back in to shape and use the coming to compete for a job.

That is what I recall as well. Parcells told him not to worry about last year and just get himself ready for this year. Why would he do that if we signed him to less than a two year deal.

Adam...What was our deal with Columbo. I'd rather hear it from someone who actually knows.

Edit: refering to the 'Skins fan not actually knowing...not you Yeagermeister :D

At this point I don't know what we are going to do with him...

The draft will determine his fate. I'm not sure if we'll draft an OT early now or not. Heck it may be a guard and in that case Tucker could be safe.

On the other hand we may not select an olineman at all the first day of the draft. That wouldn't shock me.

I think another factor will be what we do at FS, OLB and backup NT between now and the draft.

Personally I would love to see us pick up Coleman and a backup NT like Adams.

That would allow us to use picks 1, 2 and 3 on WR, OLB and OL (not necessarily in that order).

To me the 5th rounder could be a FB.

Tucker is not a trouble maker. He actually did nearly start for us at RT for a whole year in his sophomore year and played better than Pettiti did last year so I'm not quite sure why there is such a double standard on this board (actually I do know why).

He is likely to be leaps and bounds better than the typical last UDFA we invite to camp so what is the harm in letting him try to play his natural position?

Move him back to guard and let him take over for LA.
Well guard is where he belongs. LA's replacement may have been signed last week.

My biggest hope is that Fabini and Flozell stay healthy and play up to their capabilities. Then I hope Petitti and Columbo somehow improve enough to the point where they could be serviceable starters and good backups that can play both LT and RT.

That would mean that they could have a possible replacement for Flozell in the future at LT and Fabini at RT, then move Tucker to guard, where I think he might wind up being a pretty good starter in the league some day.

I'm with you. Or trade him. We might be able to get a six pack of old milwaukee for him

Overall, I am still uncomfortable with the age we have at OT and am far from convinced that Pettiti or Columbo can be average players even at RT. This means drafting an OT candidate should be a high priority - probably in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I really think we should fill the hole at FB in FA because the best FBs seem to be the old guys and they usually aren't too expensive. That would free up picks for more developmental players.

Try him at Guard which could be the place for him. What do we have to lose?

Release him very nicely. Be sensitive to his feelings, and let him down softly.

Tell him a couple of lies like you may be able to come back, we will see. You do have some potential so dont give up.

Let him know that even though he is not a Cowboy anymore he can come around anytime and hit the buffet.

Rich I'm not convinced that Petitti can't be that swing tackle (Not too mention the presence of Columbo on the roster). I'm really not. But I'll tell you want the first three rounds of the draft will tell us what the Cowboys think about this...

Do they select a tackle?

Do they select a guard?

Do they not select an o-lineman at all in the first three rounds?

I wouldn't be shocked at any of those but I would be less shocked if we go "guard" or not select an o-lineman at all.

First of all, I'm Cowboys fan. And, if you actually did some of your own homework you would know these things for yourself instead of relying on others to do it for you. But, since you're obviously that type, here ya go:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=dal

If you look at the list of Cowboys unsigned FA's you'll see Columbo's name is the second one on the list.

And by the way...don't ever call me a Skins fan again:D
