What should we do with Tucker?

Well guard is where he belongs. LA's replacement may have been signed last week.
He might have been and if that is the case then Tucker can replace Rivera and his bad back. I never trust a player who has had a back problem...especially on the O-Line.

As for Kozy being LA's replacement I will defer to the scouting department on this for now. I have not seen him play but his track record to date does not impress me. At least he is not an old guy or a Parcells retread.

First of all, I'm Cowboys fan. And, if you actually did some of your own homework you would know these things for yourself instead of relying on others to do it for you. But, since you're obviously that type, here ya go:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=dal

If you look at the list of Cowboys unsigned FA's you'll see Columbo's name is the second one on the list.

And by the way...don't ever call me a Skins fan again:D

SS

I question the accuracy of the list because Columbo definitely signed a two-year deal and has not been released. He is definitely in the Cowboys' future plans.

Well thanks for the link...I'll check it out later when I'm not busy giving my well informed opinions here. :D

BTW I see how I misconstrued your handle now. The initial impression I had was of a 'Skins fan...like someone who sells tickets to 'Skins games outside the stadium. But now I see that you mean scalper in the old school sense of the word. Pardon my misconception.

no reason not to let him battle for a position. he certainly looks like a lineman.

columbo's 2 year deal isn't meaningful -- it only meant that Bill wanted to give him a chance to come to camp and compete

Rich I'm not convinced that Petitti can't be that swing tackle (Not too mention the presence of Columbo on the roster). I'm really not. But I'll tell you want the first three rounds of the draft will tell us what the Cowboys think about this..

Do they select a tackle?

Do they select a guard?

Do they not select an o-lineman at all in the first three rounds?

I wouldn't be shocked at any of those but I would be less shocked if we go "guard" or not select an o-lineman at all.

I actually think they'll go after OLB, NG, and FS in the first three rounds. Then they'll probably look at a guard in the second day. The good thing is that Parcells is probably one of the best, if not the best I've ever seen at getting the most out of second day players.

I also expect them to look at a CB in the second day. While there's not a need right now, Glenn is 33 and Henry is 29. Get a physically gifted CB in the second day who can return punts, then let him ride the pine and develop for a year or two before he's ready to get playing time.

Rich,

I agree with that. I think that's the most likely scenario. OLB, NT, FS in the first three rounds.

I also agree with selecting a CB the second day.

You will be surprised by Kosier. IMHO he is an upgrade at LT over LA. As for Rivera, the word is he is working his butt off this off season. Don't be so quick to write him off. This is the way I look at our OL now:

Flo > Tucker
Kosier > LA
Johnson/Gurode
Rivera 2006 > Rivera 2005
Fabini > Petitti
Hannam > Campbell

Not a problem Jack. Actually after reading the past back it comes off as a little more abrasive than I would have prefered:banghead:. Sorry if I came across like a J.O.

I'm the rookie around here so you'll just have to pardon my idiocy as I become more engaged with you all.

The cowboys have done well before with taking a player who was not good enough to play tackle and make him into a good guard.

I still think that LA is better than 75% of the starting guards in the NFL, and he seems to have gotten out of Parcell's dog house.

Tucker is BILLs boy...I dont think BILL will let him go without giving him a shot!!! I think he would light it up at OG but I also think if BILL can turn the switch on for him he will be a very good OT!!!

Only 8 guards better than him in the NFL? There might be 8 guards better than him in the NFC alone.

I think LA "could" be better than 75% of the guards. He doesn't want to. He's had enough and it shows.

I agree and if i remember correctly he was rated as the #2 guard coming out of college but went undrafted.

You remember correctly, I was blown away that we didn't draft him, and no one else did either...yet we spent a pick on a Guard from Colorado that most knew would never play pro football, Justin Bates, good pick there.

I saw a good deal of Tucker at S Miss. He was a monster and usually collapsed his side of the DL. I was elated when we signed him an a UFA and then frustrated when I heard we were forcing him to play T. I knew he was too large and didn't have the footwork to play T, he couldn't in college, no way he could've in the pros. Apparently I should've sent that memo to BP.

I REALLY think that Tucker could do well at G. (I've been posting this same thing since '03 or '04) He's a monster road-grader. Would also be nice to have him work there and able to provide a youthful back up to the ancient guys LA and Rivera.

I agree with Eskimo, Tucker is playing out of position at tackle. He was a great guard in college and I think he should be moved back inside. Another option is to consider giving him a shot a center to compete with Johnson/Gurode

I don't see any double standard by suggesting that Torrin Tucker can't play in the NFL. Rob Pettitti probably can't play in the NFL for long either. Either can Columbo, either can Price, either can Peterman, and Cory Proctor probably can't play either. The truth is that we have only 7 real NFL offensive linemen on the roster at this point - LT Flozell Adams, LG Larry Allen, C Al Johnson, RG Marco Rivera, RT Jason Fabini, G/T Kyle Kosier, and C/G Andre Gurode. Larry Allen will probably be out of here very soon, which may give us enough cap space to sign kicker Josh Brown to an offer sheet, and possibly get either a FS or an OLB in free agency. This puts us in pretty good shape going into the draft in April. But we will need to draft several offensive linemen - I see us taking 1 on day 1, and possibly 2 more on day 2. We will also probably still be looking for another O lineman during the August cuts.
