Lighten up Francis.
Trent Dilfer said he noticed last year a decline in Owens' ability to stop and start quickly, get off the line, and to simply get open. Owen's straight-ahead speed was still good once he got a head of steam, but he had obviously lost some quickness.
I don't think Trent Dilfer deserves to die for that, and I hope he's around for awhile because I think he's ESPN's best analyst.
Trent Dilfer was either high or projecting what he saw in box scores to what took place on the field, because it's a load of crap. Every single physical component of his game improved in 2008 from where it was in 2007, and it's not even debatable. It was that clear cut to the naked eye.
According to whatever imbecile InmanRoshi claims to have listened to, T.O. has gone from first team all-pro in 2007 to NO BETTER THAN A 3RD RECEIVER ON A GOOD TEAM in 2008. So he goes from 2nd best receiver in pro football in 2007 (or at least, undoubtedly top 5)....to no better than a #3? And in a year where EVERYONE said he looked much faster? In a year when Wade Phillips and Ray Sherman both said he was getting out of his breaks quicker than ever after training in sand in the off-season?
Do you see the absurdity in that? He's lost SO MUCH FREAK'N QUICKNESS that he just falls off the face of the earth, but somehow he manages to get noticeably faster and coaches say he was also noticeably quicker coming out of his breaks this year.
Just think about that. It's absolutely laughable.
Whatever happened to "nobody denies what he can do on the field?"
"He's no longer a legitimate #1." "He's a #3 on a good team." "He can't run routes." "He can't catch the ball." "He can't get off the jam." "He can't get separation."
People are just spewing this idiotic propaganda left and right with no concern for whether or not it's factually accurate.
