What to do Cowboys fans

That’s the attempt I am gonna make. And your right they don’t watch football the way we do. Am hoping they put music on and not turn the game on. They will think I am crazy..

This game sounds like it would be a distraction if you don't know the result. And if you are trying to avoid being spoiled you're not going to be 100% in the moment. I honestly now think you should get the alert and enjoy the party.

I'm not trying to judge, I know I have done similar things because I used to work Sundays all the time. Maybe missing this game will allow this type of scenario to stop happening. It was good that you didn't reschedule the entire event based on a game. Now keep that momentum and don't go backwards now that's it game-day.

I have the same problem. Not today, but my girlfriends family hates football. She loves it like I do, but they couldn’t care less. I don’t get it. I tell them every time we miss something for a game that this will only be the most watched show on TV for the year!

I taped the game for Family pics earlier this season. First game I’ve missed in 20 years at least. I avoided everything on the drive home. It wasn’t too bad, but I still yelled like it was live. It was very hard not to get on CZ.

Lol. I am torn. But like someone mentioned I don’t want to be the guy at the party that’s sitting on his phone. Glancing at the alerts will give me so much anxiety. Especially if it’s a close one. Lol. It’s actually a good problem to have. I get to have a exciting game and enjoy time with friends. But I also enjoy my time here with my internet friends on the game day threads. Life is good.

Exactly. I never miss games and my family even plans Thanksgiving around the game. And every year I am like guys they play the same time every year you know this. Why do you have to change things around every year. They have the games on because my family watches football. But they know I am going to be home for my game. My friends don’t really care about it and would gladly put the game on if they know I want to see it. But I am not going to subject them to my other side and alter ego. Lol.

People are overrated. If they cared as much about you as you clearly do about them, they'd know that you WERE into football.

Fake a head injury and stay home.

If you are going to be at the party but not be able to enjoy yourself because your thinking about the game be late and watch it . It you can hang with your friends and not be tortured over the fact you are missing the game record and watch later in piece and quiet . I watch games by myself or with my wife or one friend who is seriously into football . Cant watch it with a Zoo of women and kids babbling in the background .
Lol. I wonder if we are kin folk. I am the same way. I watch with my wife who understands. I don’t want people around talking and breaking my groove. It drives me nuts. Which is why I don’t want them to put the game on while at the party. I will try to not get spoilers but may ultimately decide to get a alert or 2.

I have a Christmas party with friends today. No way I miss it, they are like family to me and aren’t into football so they planned it for 5 pm today.

Only the biggest game of the year.

What would y’all do. I am planning to record it and turn my phone off as I get score alerts. No satellite radio on the way there or on the way home. They aren’t turning it on while I am there because I will be watching the game instead of getting my party on. And it’s embarrassing when I start talking and yelling at the TV as if the players can actually hear me.

Do I maybe leave the phone on and keep check of the score so if we win I watch it when I get home. And if we lose I won’t watch it and save myself the heart break. Or do leave it all off and watch when I get home. What would you do...

LOL I hear ya. I like to pace back and forth with a beer cursing at the TV. But twice this year I had a similar situation to yours. Week 2 and Thanksgiving. Both times the game was on and even though the situation was not ideal, I had no problem mingling and watching the game at the same time. You're not going to see every play. What you're doing is keeping tabs on the game. Better than nothing. But hey, if you can tape the game and successfully get home without knowing the results, go for it. I've tried that on multiple occasions and all have failed.

Glad I am not the only one that has these thoughts. So I am not being selfish. I may trip and fall.

The game and results will be there when they leave. Enjoy the fellowship of your friends.

You could just tell them you've turned Vegan and wait for them to un-invite you.

Next month tell them it was just a stupid phase and invite them all for BBQ.

This happened to me for the Bears game we had an early Christmas office party that same night.. Turns out I didn’t miss much but hopefully this game will be different.. Some of us fans snuck off to the bar to catch a few snaps but eventually just stayed in the party...

Enjoy your people, watch it later...

Screw it sit down and watch the game party with them during commercials and halftime I've been there done that they all expect me to watch the game one Thanksgiving I had to go next door to my buddies house while Thanksgiving was going on at his parents LOL

You guys are right. I will take y’alls advice and avoid the spoilers. On one hand I almost wanted to know the outcome in case we lost I could save myself the heartache. But I have a feeling we will win and watching it knowing the final score will get boring.

When they planned the party over a month ago my wife was going to tell them Sunday evening is a no go because of the game, but I said please don’t say that. I don’t want them having to plan around my schedule. I also was hoping we would have the division wrapped up by then. Lol.
There is another side to that. What if the Cowboys come from behind and snatch the victory right out of their beaks and you are aware of that ahead of viewing the recorded game? The emotional part of the game is muted for you.

Glimm, you are going to watch the recorded game whether they win or lose so no peeking at the phone during the game, I would leave the phone in the car or at home to remove the temptation. How could you not watch the game if the Cowboys lose, how could you possibly select which coaches to fire and players to cut this week on the forum? Hell, the coaches are an easy call but there are players that we haven't considered expunging that might make mistakes in this game. I keep a running cut list during the games.

Eh, where is this party and how much food and space will be there? Some of us might want to join your party at halftime.

You are not alone in the pacing. I drink vodka and walk back and forth yelling at the TV like they hear me. I think sometimes they do. I am a smoker and started smoking outside. So during a commercial or halftime I will walk outside but have my face pinned up to the glass door trying to watch and still yelling at the TV. If my neighbors see or hear me it must be embarrassing for them. I never miss games but it seems that this season people are trying to screw with me by planning and trying to do something at the same exact time as my game. I end up getting the alerts and watching later. Or just canceling on peeps. Lol.

Good call about leaving the phone. I was going to turn it off but we both know I am gonna turn it on. How else could I call JJ and make game adjustments that he will ignore. And your right about the emotional part. If we break there beaks off and I miss it in real time it’s gonna suck. Gonna make the attempt of no peaking. Knowing my luck one of my friends will yell out the score as I am leaving. If so we will not speak again. Lol. And your more than welcome to join any party I have or go to.

I feel for ya. Because what is truly sad is having friends that are that close to you (like family) that planned a big Christmas party on Sunday. They could’ve scheduled it for Saturday, or even Friday evening. They never considered you in all of this. Sheesh!

Now you must gut it out, and keep away from your phone and all updates. Watch the recorded version when you get home.

Easier said than done, but have fun this evening. It’s just a game.
