Haha, oh the sarcasm.

But I stand by what I wrote. It's time for our GM to talk business with Dak. This is a professional world, no hearts to brake. Just be honest with him. We all expected more, things didn't turn out the way they should have. Time to move on. Just not behind Dak's back, transparency is king.
Im not sure Jethro Jone$ views our issues and concerns the same way.

His priority is providing an interesting and relative product he can hype and sell. Anything beyond that is gravy. I imagine they see this season as successful.

Whether any of us like it or not, we are stuck with two things most of us are very tired of:
  1. Jerry Jones as GM (and his cheap son)
  2. Dak Prescott
There are a hundred threads about how and why Dak needs to go. A million more about nearly three decades of Jerry failures and repeated stupid mistakes. Yada, yada, yada. I’m as frustrated as anyone. But folks they’re both going to be back next year. Dak’s here at least two more seasons. Jerry will be the face of this organization until he takes a dirt nap.

So what could be done if we’re stuck with both? Essentially it’s the old idea about what to do when you don’t have enough apples to go around. You make applesauce.

The two ideas I believe this team desperately need are centered around finding new voices in both the front office and in the ear of Dak Prescott.

IDEA #1

  • HIRE A NEW FRONT OFFICE ADVISOR (An Assistant GM) I know Jerry will never step aside, but what if he hired an advisor? A shadow GM. A guy who could whisper to Jerry and Stephen a modern blueprint for this organization to follow to build a winner.
    • JJ and SJ simply play fantasy football. They don’t get it. The only thing separating us from disaster is Will McClay. He is a great talent evaluator but he doesn’t get to sign FAs. Maybe Will McClay could be that guy who modernizes this FO to become more aggressive In FA. Or someone else.
    • BOTTOM LINE: We need some new talent and a voice in the front office. WE LOST THE SF GAME THIS PAST OFFSEASON. The way we do things DOES NOT WORK. WE NEED NEW DIRECTION.
IDEA #2
  • HIRE A NEW OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR/QBs COACH: Hire a new OC. Someone who can coach Dak back to who he really is. A good but not great QB who is definitely not transcendent. He will never ever be a gunslinger who carries a team. He needs help. And good coaching. Kellen Moore ain’t that guy.
    • I believe Dak IS someone you can win multiple playoff games with, but in the mold of someone like Mark Rypien, Phil Simms or Jim Plunkett. Good enough but not transcendent. Dak must be surrounded by a good OL and a strong running game that keeps the defense honest. And get back to being a guy he was early in his career- careful with the ball.
    • Also, Dak has forgotten who he really is as a QB. He stopped being that careful QB he was when he came into the league and started believing he was a gunslinger, which he clearly is not. In his rookie year, Dak only threw 4 picks in 16 games.
    • In this current era of pro football where the passing game has become the coin of the realm, many of our fans have been lulled into thinking only a top shelf gunslinger, who can carry a team on his arm is capable of winning SBs. But guys like that- Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers…maybe a couple more…are really one in a million. Dak clearly is not one of those guys.
    • BOTTOM LINE: We need a new offense and OC. And more offensive weapons besides Pollard and Lamb.
ADDITIONAL IDEA:
  • Draft a QB every other year to always have a young guy not just as a backup but someone who could possibly be the next starter.
    • Look at what SF did this year-drafting Brock Purdy when they already had Trey Lance as their future and Jimmy G as insurance. It was a wise move we never make.
Finally- we need to have an aggressive off-season. It’s great to have good drafts but in today’s NFL, it‘s not enough. If we go into this off-season with the same approach we’ve had the last several years, don’t expect different results.
Force Prescot to the bench, that's the only way he will agree to a trade. I don't care if JJ brings in his own G-Son to play QB, but show Prescot that he's not welcome around here anymore. Force Prescot's TEAM of AGENTS to find a trading partner. Unfortunately for the Boys, JJ can't sign any talented, game changing players with the weight of Prescot's contract hitting against the CAP!

When I'm stuck with something I paid for and no longer want/need, I first do my best to unload it for a reasonable price

if no one is interested, I dump it in the trash and don't look back.
I don't worry about what it cost, if I made a mistake on something that turned out to be awful, I eat it and move on as best I can.

there is no sense having something sitting there taking up space if it brings little or no value to me.

Dak is no different. After that game in SF the other night, I would hope that management would want him as far away from this team and this locker room as possible.
We have some guys who want to win (Parsons, Kearse, etc) and if this charade continues we'll lose them. Their spirits will be broken by the Cowboy way of mediocrity filtered through total lack of accountability.

have a yard sale. See who's interested. Take a hit if you need to, but get the frick rid of this bum.
Philly did it, and rebounded quickly. We can to.

Continuing with this nonsense does nobody any good. Except Dak.

Sadly Gregg, you are probably more correct than any of us realize.

And that's probably why they'll extend him for another several years. LOL

Sure, why screw up 12 win playoff seasons . Jethro sees Dak as like a Golden Goose. He’s enough to keep the interest, hype and cash registers going.

This isn’t a dumpster fire. If fans want real change they need to root for a few 12 loss seasons . 12 win seasons isnt going to bring the change they all are looking for .

See my post to elevate Will McClay to GM. Dak is not the problem. He is failing under the pressure of the problem he can not solve just like Cowboy fans.

Your overreaction to yet another season of not getting to the Super Bowl is ridiculous. Jerry Jones is not the reason the Cowboy's season is over. Being "stuck" with him(and his family) is something I am thankful for. On the other hand, Dak is a big reason the Cowboy's season is over. We now have undisputable evidence he is too inconsistent to make a long run into the playoffs. We are not "stuck" with him. He has a contract with an approaching expiration date. It's time to draft and groom Dak's replacement. We don't need to change our approach to the offseason. That's not what got us ejected from the playoffs.
Joe don’t sugar coat it. Let me know what you really think. :D Not sure you read the whole post based on what you said about Dak.

Idea #2…invest in a couple of speedy WRs (or top tier TE), a good rookie running back and upgrade the OL a bit and we will see a much better version of Dak. Keep CD, Gallup and Steele. Let Elliot go of course and let Dalton find his big payday somewhere else.

Just curious, are you at that point yet (in the bold/green)?

I never thought I would be. But I am after last Sunday.

Just wondering if that was enough to push some other fans over the edge as well....

No, because unfortunately it’s still not going to bring the ultimate change needed at the top.

I waved my white flag years ago lowering my expectations. It is what it is. Just hoping I out live the ole fool.

And it’s a double edged sword . While I still want to win get some satisfaction knowing Jethro can’t return to glory his way.

My hope is at least 17 meaningful games. That keeps me tuning in without dozing off . Lol

But we go thru this almost every year as fans are frustrated after a disappointing ending. By September they’ll be looking forward to another season with renewed hope.

Jerry is 18 years older than me so I hopeful to outlive him and see better days.

I normally would agree with your last sentence.
but honestly at this point, I have no more hope. Nothing.

Last year, disappointed but thought, maybe we're close. Stung but like you said, figured by season opener would be pumped and hopeful.
this year it was there for the taking and just a complete collapse at the most important position on the field.

I'm not done watching. But I'm done hoping and getting excited. It's over. Like you said, just hope I can tune in without dozing off. Perfectly said.

Eh, Purdy was a 7th round pick and the last guy drafted. If they thought he was this good, they would have taken him a lot sooner. Purdy is a product of their system and the talent around him. He plays a lot like Dak played year 1 when he hardly ever turned the ball over. They can now trade Jimmy G for draft picks AND save cap space. They have the resources to significantly improve that team which is kinda scary.
This! SF has Shanahan as their O-coordinator and we have the boob of the year, Kellen "The Hammer" Moore as our O-coordinator cause Jerry crowned Moore his new adopted son, winning be damned. Purdy wks for one of the top O-coordinators in the NFL and we get a guy still learning on the job lol.

Great post Hazey! I agree wholeheartedly with your ideas but these ideas are predicated on the idea that Jerry wants to win above all else when in reality we all know for Jerry, winning finishes behind his top priorities of being the a** face of the franchise, playing fantasy football with the team, and micromanaging everyone from the water boy to the hot dog vendor. Oh and if anyone thinks Jerry really wants to win, then I direct your attention to the sun problem at home games.

I’m not sure why fans thought this seasons ending was any different or disappointing. We were a WC team which were considerable underdogs to win 3 in a row on the road.

SF was obviously the better team most of the year. And repeating in Champ game. They had won like 10 or 11 in a row with #1 defense that always gives Dak fits.

We had a better season than I expected . 3rd best in NFC isn’t bad. Improvements from last year and we finally won a playoff game in the road. I’d say 2022 best season in years .

Right

But I can’t tell you how many arguments I had again this year on this forum with fans who believed that Jethro wasn’t a problem and he’s doing everything within his power to win.

Yea, he wants to win badly but only his way. That’s not doing everything within your power to win. When are all fans finally going to get it?

I had SF for most of the season being in Champ game . And probably against Egirls . I’d say the NFC played out Purdy much as expected .

And SF and Phil have the top 2 defenses and why they have survived . Defenses win in the playoffs.

I’m not sure why Cowboy fans are so distraught over this seasons results. The over/ under was 10 1/2 wins . We surpassed those expectations. And we won our 1st playoff game on the road since 1992.

I’d argue we surpassed expectations this season. But too many fans get too hyped up during the season buying in to the media hoopla. Shoot, I was impressed we probably had the 3rd best team in NFC. And that’s with a dysfunctional ownership, over hyped QB and not enough talent at key positions on offense .

This seasons upswing can be credited to an emerging defense and a backup QB which kept the season alive while Prescott was out. In years past our season would have been over in October.

You’re 100% right that Jerry must win “his way”. And when will he put Jimmy in the ROH?
