News: What to do with Leary and Collins

Zack Martin's upcoming contract is going to be in OT territory. He would make a Pro Bowl RT. Keep both Leary and Collins, and move one over to RG.

Chaz makes a great swing Tackle. Draft OG depth.

As others have said, Leary is gone next year. We cant afford to keep him, and pay Martin and eventually Collins as well. Green is going to be our next RT.
The decision is if it is next year or year after. Save his (Free) $5 million salery, or play it out for his last year - let Green play virtually his second season as the swing and be able to draft some depth over 2 drafts.
I would put upwith Free for 1 more year to be able to do that, plus the comp. Pick for Leary will come due in 2018 and may be a good pick is he balls out this year .....its a good problem to have.

The contract Leary is going to want puts him out of our reach. You can't pay all these guys. Even if Collin's best position ends up being at RT, we're probably looking at getting a cheaper player (maybe a rookie) to man down LG. Especially if you want to keep Collin's at RT when his contract is up.

That's the flip side of having pro bowl caliber players on second contracts. You just can't have five really good online guys on second contracts. Leary will move on and green will replace free and hopefully be a good player
The draft gets you talent, good drafting allows you to replace some good players with good young and cheaper players if you hit on them
