What was up with the playcalling early on?

I really hope they plan on doing different stuff this season offensively instead of: "line up and beat your man", vanilla, run on 1st down every time, throw to Witten 3 yards short of the sticks, screen to Dunbar LITERALLY 99.9% of the time he's in, or leaving Dez in one spot where he disappears 2 quarters at a time.

I actually think they will. Please God!
To be realistic and help the defense they need to do exactly what you dislike and do it well. We need to be able to run out the fourth quarter with our foot on the neck of the defense.

It was the preseason playbook.
Not to be confused with the regular season playbook.

Can we get someone to sneak in and switch them. So they will use what they think is the preseason playbook, then use the preseason playbook in the regular season.

I saw slants, bootlegs, and screens.... What in the heck got into this coaching staff?

Have they finally decided to stop playing caveman football maybe?

It was the perfect game plan in the first half, the second half looked like our old broken ways of trying to do things...

Nope, they save the good stuff for preseason and the bad stuff for the regular season.

The biggest surprise of the night besides Dak was the play calling from the 1st half. I thought I was watching a co pletely different team.

Oh, I agree. But you have to change it up a little too, no? Its always good to catch your opponent off guard (IMO).

They didnt game plan, they were randomly calling plays. Much less predictable than the regular season will be.

The problem with the play calling in the second half was the OL was getting thrashed and the receivers couldn't hold the ball.

I was actually thinking the same thing, that was probably one of the more exciting offensive halves we've seen in quite some time.

That would nice!

While most teams don't game plan much or at all in the 1st preseason game, it looked like Linehan had a fully scripted package set up for Dak to give him his very best chance to succeed with the 1st unit. It's huge that he get a good start, and he did.. He, and the offense were well prepared.

Those slants were wide open, as the defense was confused. Play action, screens...tough for a defense.
Then Dez was getting single coverage, so that is a lock. The throw over the top to Williams was really nice.

wonder how many of those plays Dak checked out of?
I saw at least one. A late run play. Other than that, Dallas did something unusual yesterday in that they scripted those early drives to assure Dak was comfortable.
He exceeded expectations!

I think what was obvious is that with Prescott..he has a different set of skills Linehan recognizes.

He can't do the playcalling yet like Romo...he has to have a set play to run.

But you couldn't help but be impressed with Dak running the offense. Especially taking the snap under center and making quick reads and being decisive.

and he is a solid built dude..able to run if needed to good result.

I think he's our future..lets see where he hits his wall.

The Rams are not that good a defense..hard to judge.

I agree but have you noticed that our D always seems to be sucking air by the fourth quarter?
Some would say poor conditioning.
My guess is that Garrett runs a loose kind of camp and practices where the vets feign injuries and they get fewer reps. By game time they play out of shape and then Garrett says the vets are passionate and are playing through injuries.
Jimmy and Bill would have stared down these slackers (and now substances abuser) and told them to practice earnestly or go home to mama and gotten an honest game day from them even if their playing sucked.
I have said too much, lad.

We really need to get play calling right.... Romo's legacy is at stake... And so is mine! Lol

Yeah it was fun to watch, mainly because they were executing so well. Dak was awesome and something thats not being talked about because we are accustomed to it was Dez just being the beast he is. Throw it up and hes gonna pull it out of the air, dbs can not handle that man one on one with the ball in the air. I may have missed it but id love to see some rub routes.
