What was up with the playcalling early on?

I agree but have you noticed that our D always seems to be sucking air by the fourth quarter?
Some would say poor conditioning.
My guess is that Garrett runs a loose kind of camp and practices where the vets feign injuries and they get fewer reps. By game time they play out of shape and then Garrett says the vets are passionate and are playing through injuries.
Jimmy and Bill would have stared down these slackers (and now substances abuser) and told them to practice earnestly or go home to mama and gotten an honest game day from them even if their playing sucked.
I have said too much, lad.

Relying on our defense to get a game winning stop is like watching a slow motion train wreck. I find myself begging to get a 3 and out then a stop period then as the offense advances the ball down the field I begin begging for a turn over. This is follwed by a touchdown, me cursing and the dog leaving the room. About as routine as death and taxes.

Did you not see the first two games last year against the Giants and the Eagles? We were throwing screens to TE's and had Dunbar lined up as a receiver.

We never got to see what we had planned last year with Romo going down early, sadly.
We still saw the defense...yuk.

More impressive to me was our pace.....we we consistently in and out of the huddle and snapping the ball with double digits left on the play clock. The one delay of game happened after some penalties and bad plays......maybe dak was a bit off, but for his very first game, I give a pass on that one. Besides, if Swaim doesn't drop that pass, we most likely score a TD on the drive. That dropped pass set of a chain of negativity, that was righted just in time to get a FG.

But I am glad for the FG attempt, let Bailey get some work in too.

Defense actually played pretty well in those first two games. The offense basically spotted the Giants 10 points with terrible turnovers, and they were able to really limit OBJ. The Eagles game they dominated, it was close to being a shutout until the offense slowed when Romo went down. I think people give Dallas' defense so much grief because they were historically bad in 2013, and any of their success in 2014 was attributed to the offense, and 2015 was overshadowed by a 4-12 season even though the defense kept the team close for a lot of those games, while the offense crumbled repeatedly. No this probably isn't a top ten defense, but the 2006 Colts, 2009 Saints, 2011 Packers, and 2012 Ravens proved you can win championships without a top ten defense.

Is it possible that Dak follows the plays called not audibling as much as Romo does?

Also during camp Garrett said they'd place in plays more suitable to Daks college days so in the event Romo went down he'd feel more comfortable . Something they didn't do as well in Romo's absence last year.

I'm amazed that Dak knew to throw the ball up to Dez instead of trying to force Dez to be a speedster and expecting him to get a ton of separation before he launches the ball Dez's way. Dak seems to recognize the strength of his players.
