Define winner and there are as many successful GM's in the NFL as HC's. About 10. That means that JJ is just one of the inept allong with 21 or so others. Mind you they at least have the option of looking for another GM and don't have an owner/GM. Guess we're stuck until dementia or death ;)

I think if he did, it would be an accident.

Jerry wants major sayso. Most quality HC's would not come here under those circumstances. So, I think our best shot would be if he hired some young college coach who happened to be a good coach.

What every team needs as a HC, a man that hires great coaches. That's his # 1 job just as the GM's #1 is to hire the HC and the owner's #1 is to hire the GM.

It is a chain, a chain of command, and when interrupted in the flow, it kinks.

Sean McVay, the youngest HC in the league is smart. Look at his coaching staff. A smart HC hires coaches that know what he doesn't know. A new HC hires the most experienced and successful coaches he can find.

Garrett is a coach without a pedigree. And who does he bring in? Except for Kiffin, where are the skins on the wall? His two coordinators are two of the worst HC's in NFL history, one an 0-16 coach.

The most questionable hiring since Garrett was hired is Linehan. Just what are his credentials? 5 years at DET leading the league in pass calls and how much did his young stud QB progress? A hell of a lot more after he left.

It's not the HC, it's the staff. Belichick doesn't have the best talent on his OL so what does he do? Gets the best OL coach.

Except for Parcells, and that was for an ulterior motive, the GM of the Cowboys has done a very poor job of filling the most important element of any football team.

I guarantee that kid Kyle Shanahan is going to special too. Give him another year or two and he will have that team in the playoffs.

Truth is stranger than fiction. Good post. Our HC is here for 2018 for certain and if he happens to get lucky with the revamped coaching staff then maybe further than that. It is his second coaching staff hiring and Belichick took a few years to get his right too. Not comparing the two because the pedigrees are totally different, one a Parcells disciple and the other a Saban. Strange how Saban is able to put a good staff around him in college but failed in the NFL/ Maybe he would be better the second time around too. Who knows

I do agree 100% that the HC's #1 priority is putting good coaches around him, not to micro-manage, and trust the coordinators and position coaches to do their jobs. My micro-managing comment was said tongue in cheek. JJ is the micro-manager who wants his imprint on everything. Neither JJ or JG are dictators or tyrants though. If anything JG is too nice and JJ too kind to stars at the end of their careers.

Jerry can keep Jason. He just needs to hire the best OC and DC in the NFL. The Jason can worry about timeouts and challenges.

Garrett was in charge of the offense. Wasn't he the supposed offensive genius? We certainly knew it wasn't Wade Phillips forte. The setup was obvious. So when the same thing happens today that was happening 10 years ago, it's still not Garretts fault? lol This is still his scheme. It's one thing to dismiss a fans opinion, but a player who actually lived it, was in the huddle, the meetings etc.. and multiple players have said the same thing as well as opposing defenders . That list goes on and on. Some are still in denial 11 years and counting...

LOL, dude, TO threw everyone but TO under the bus. You can use TO as your bright and shining star of "someone who was on the team. lived it and was in the huddle" that's your choice. Any one who dances on the star, called his QB out in SF calling him a f*g, feigned suicide to get his girlfriends attention is one weak a** individual. JMO of course.

Doesn't matter, he might be a moron but he was a great player, he'll still be in the hall of fame and he's not the only one who called out Garrett.

Well, I'd look at any links you have of forme Cowboys who called out JG. I mean players who actually played when he was a coach. Don't give me TO's BS
