Dak WILL be bold enough to hold out, mark my words. However, I do NOT think he expected the signing of Dalton, messing up his ultimate plan.
See, this was Dak's OG plan.
He saw what happened to Zeke. To Lawerence. Even Amari to an extend. He saw them threaten to holdout. He knows the power of the QB status, and thought he could do the same. There was a flaw in his plan, however.
When Zeke held out, we had no replacement. Its hard to have a "bad" RB, but it's also hard to find a Top 5 talent RB such as Zeke, Kamara, Saquon, Dalvin Cook, Aaron Jones, etc. That's why his holdout worked (along with the fact that he has broken records and has significant importance in our games, as we don't seem to do well without him). We also didn't know how good Tony Pollard was going to be, and I doubt he would be as great as he was as if he didn't have Zeke along side him this past season.
D-Law had already been tagged once, and refused to be tagged again. Same situation as Zeke. We had no other magnificent DE to fill in his spot, and considering how well he did in the 2018-2019 season, of course his demand was high. He, like Zeke, had leverage.
Amari is a bit different, but around the same. You can tell he's a little more giving considering he actually stayed with the Cowboys instead of taking the higher deal with the Redskanks.
Dak, however, has no leverage as of right now. He thought since Jerry broke the bank three times, he'd do it again, however, 4th time is indeed NOT a charm. The Dalton signing has changed everything. Why you may ask? Here's the answer:
Is Dalton as good as Dak? That's hard to say, considering how many weapons he's had in Cincy vs. how many weapons Dak has had in the past 2-3 years. However, I'll admit as of now, Dak is better, younger, faster, and more durable. This does NOT mean he's miles better than Dalton. Dak is marginally better. Ask yourself: Would you pay a marginally better QB 28 mil more than an average QB that can likely produce at a close level as said marginally better QB? I would not. This signing shows that if Dak wants to hold out, they have a plan with Dalton. Dalton played great his first few years, and may end up becoming a silver fox (becoming better as he ages). Dak had leverage because Cooper Rush was terrible and he knew Dallas wouldn't want to go into the season with Cooper as QB1. Now that that's not happening, he should be shifting his demands, however, I have a feeling he won't. And my feelings are usually correct (Go back and read my previous "crazy" predictions that many thought were wrong at the time).
Dak will only hurt himself in the process. I understand wanting market money. I understand he's been paid dust these past few years. I understand football is a business. However, many are acting as if he hasn't been given offers. From my understanding, he's been offered money that would make him the highest paid player in the NFL, but is making a huge dramedy out of an extra year on the contract. Why is the extra year such a big deal? Why can't the cowboys make an incentive for how well he plays will depend on a 4th/5th year option? There are better ways for this negotiation to go. Either way, Dak is playing harder ball than the boys are. I feel like he will holdout and soon realize he mad a mistake. Especially if Dalton leads this team to not only the playoffs, but the Superbowl. We will then have a Foles vs. Wentz situation on our hands.... which I will then say: Trade up as much as possible to get Trevor Lawerence.
