What will the Cowboys' RB room look like in 2023?

I'm out of the paying RBs business and that includes Pollard. I'm certainly not spending $10 million to tag him.

Spend your money on your line, WR, CB, and pass rushers. You can draft RBs in the mid-rounds, like Pollard.
No guarantee.

No one really knew Pollard was as explosive as he was coming into the NFL. Even his college counterpart (Henderson) was considered more of a better prospect.
Some thought he'd continue to be a gimmick tool with the Cowboys.

Now we have upfront personally seen what Pollard is.. and can do.... and only because of Kellen, his full potential hasn't even been tapped yet.
It was difficult for Pollard to get neccessary carries his first year or so ..and his receiving skills still has been so very ultilized.

I would be more accepting of drafting Bijan in round one than I would have franchise tagging an injured part-time running back.
Besides this recent fibula injury, when has Pollard been injured ?

I think you tag Pollard for 1 year to capture one last prime year of his. They tagged Dalton S for about $11MM last year. I think Pollard is worth more. Of course only tag Pollard IF you cut Zeke.

Draft a back in round 2 or three. Sign D'Onta Foreman for 2 million a year. Franchise Pollard. Done.
i would not mind looking at Foreman post-draft. I'd like to see what my chances are during the draft with some of the more regarded RB prospects
that could even manage to slip down to our selections.

RB classes and draftees tend to do that on a yearly basis ... (drop thru rounds)

And do you think tagging Schultz was worth it?

This recent fibula injury is plenty sufficient.
How is it sufficient when the fibula was not reported to having need surgery ?

From what i am hearing,.. it's (fibula) said to be self-healing. No surgery needed. No screws needed.

It was the high ankle sprain that was significant. And that's not a ACL or achilles tendon.

I agree. Im tagging Pollard and trying to trade him. Go into the draft and see what I could get. I sign a cheap veteran and draft a guy. If I get who I want I let Pollard walk but try to trade him first.

I would not have done it but in hindsight it was the right call. He had a decent year and they needed to see what the young guys could do. I think Schults is looking at about 4/$60MM now. That's a hard pass for me. I like Ferguson and I think they need to address TE in the draft so they should be set there. Need to spend cap dollars elsewhere.

*Franchise or New 3yr deal for Tony Pollard.

*Cut Zeke

* Sign Rashaad Penny 1yr deal - history with Schottenheimer.

* Draft Zack Charbonnet in the 2nd Round.

Look for a run heavy attack with Schotty.
Pollard
Penny
Charbonnet
Davis
Everything you said but signing Pollard. I would sign another FA for around 3 million if needed. Davis needs to be gone.

The injury required surgery. You can look that up.

Pollard (tagged)
Rookie RB draftee (4th round)
Foreman ?
M. Davis ?

- I'd like to see 3 to 4 deep at RB depth chart -but it will likely be 3 deep RB group, i wonder if team may deem necessary for an experienced. established vet
who could be our 3rd back.

- But I'd like to add a splash RB as a backup, maybe a Kenneth Gainwell or David Montgomery/Hebert type.
Heck i could go for another 4th round Pollard clone if possible..

- Huge key is, should Pollard be injured, the skills and capability of the backup to create Splash so we do not lose splash ability.
Much like a Kareem Hunt backing up a Chubb, Gainwell to Sanders, ..Mongomery/Hebert (Bears).. etc. .

- Foreman or whatever vet RB would very likely have to come bargain dirt cheap...- and I'd lean to wait to explore that vet RB option after the NFL draft.

Tagging Shultz was worth it at the time. Without Shultz this passing offense would be have been really hampered.
No it wasn’t. In fact, all of the tags used on the TE position were mistakes.

Long ago done so, here's a recap. .

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35518505/source-cowboys-tony-pollard-tightrope-surgery-injury

per ESPN Todd Archer:

" Running back Tony Pollard underwent surgery Tuesday to repair ligaments from a high ankle sprain he suffered in the Dallas Cowboys' divisional round playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source
."

" Pollard underwent a "TightRope" procedure instead of a surgery that required screws into the tibia and fibula for a repair. In this procedure, a braided polyethylene cord, rather than a rigid surgical screw, is applied to restore the original position of the bones and to allow for proper healing... "

" Pollard should be at full strength well before training camp. "
