What would be your philosophy when drafting 5-7th round picks

As TD said famously they cut 6th rounders everyday and with us having 2 7th round picks. What would be you're philosophy when it comes to drafting a player past the 5th round. Would you use part of Parcells plan with Qbs and lookfire seniors?Would you go the Al Davis route and go fastest? Would you do the Seattle thing and try for long, tall DB's or would you do something different?

We can all say best player available but we all know that's a bit of a lie after the 3rd round. If they were the best they wouldn't be going so late. So how would you try to Draft late round picks. Being the high turnover rate you can go off script and no one can really judge you.

I would say that it is more of a lie early in the draft. One doesn't reach for a 6th round pick.

It's such a crapshoot later in the draft that not taking what you consider to have the highest success rate is folly.

I like injury red-shirts, specialists, small school linemen, and throwing picks at positions of need in advance of college free agency in my late round picks.

You'll pass on guys higher on your board if you're fairly sure they'll slide to FA for some obvious physical reason. You also might take a guy you like at a stacked position on your roster if you think your opportunity won't look as good to a CFA as another team running a similar system.

My impression from reading about Cowboys' draft philosophy in later rounds is that they go for players who do at least one thing very well. Then hope that they can be developed, coached, or otherwise step up to NFL level.

Given that 100+ juniors jumped into the draft this year, that's three rounds worth of extra players to pick from. Seventh round gets you a lot of shots, even at low odds.

BPA would be number one priority.

After that I'd say:
Character risks suddenly become less risky.
Small school project player.
UCLA players (kidding).

Seems like a sound strategy.

I'd also draft at least one talented criminal in the 7th round, just for kicks.

BPA with ties going to the defense. Don't get cute just draft your board that is why you create one.

Draft the highest guy on my board.

As obvious as this sounds I agree 100%. When I watch this team draft I get the feel the follow their board for 3 or 4 rounds and then start looking for random players they could probably get after the draft.

Better than the "can't do anything right" route, anyway. :)

I'd like to pick a 7th rounder that matches my 1st to push that 1st rounder and have some depth.

I simply would just go dl and lb, anyone who could possibly be in the rotation and add depth. I just dont see any other position being able to contribute right away. OL would be a possibility as well.

Guys who are big, bad mother ****ers........this is the time you draft injured guys or maybe a bad *** but most importantly they gotta love football and have a passion for the game. Also a guy who was a very good to great soph and junior year player and just happened to have a down senior season. Those are the guys I take late.

I'm not sure I follow you. It's irrelevant if it's late in the draft, you would still take the best player available.

That would always be my philosophy.

look for players that are really good at one or two things and create a niche in your system to take advantage of those skills.

If we get all those comp picks, the Cowboys will find a productive player in the 7th round.

Now if we had 3 2nd round picks I'd be like...I don't know.
