What would be your philosophy when drafting 5-7th round picks

OL/DL from big name/big conference schools...maybe a RB. No picks with sp teams as your primary angle (at least initially) or outhinking yourself. How many of these picks are justified (out of the gate) this way in the late rounds (and not just in Dallas)? Why don't you still swing for the fences seeing as how few late rounders actually stick/contribute or become true late round gems?

Picture being in the war room on the last day of the Draft. Rod pitching a d lineman because we only drafted 2. Garrett is pitching a OG and Bill C backs him. Kiffin is pitching a safety from an SEC school and Scott L. wants a RB to push Murray and commit to running the ball. You coming in hear with BPA is weak. This post was to get you all to add depth to your philosophy not scream BPA like the talking heads at the 4 letter

I think in those rounds you take position of need from big time conferences and schools. Many teams will take flyers....a speed guy, a smaller guy with hustle, etc but that yells "project." I think if you take someone who may have one knock yet produced at a Wisconsin or USC or Oklahoma you are more apt to maybe hit on someone was good in college and can adapt to the pros vs "flyer." Maybe you can single out an intangible in there that makes them stand out but there will be guy like the Missouri DE who will be 4-7 rounder and whose combine was off but was SEC D player of the year (not including the outside stuff.) There are LBs who will be the leading tackler at Georgia but slip because teams don't like their size or speed. But they produced. I like production.

Point proven if BPA was always the answer the time between Draft picks would be 60 seconds its not because everyone in the room has a say and an opinion sorry you aren't capable of having one

The problem we have here is you don't really understand the draft process. You envision a scenario where there is always one player graded above all others when a team goes on the clock. I'd bet that's usually not the case. Often times you're dealing with a group of similarly graded players and then all the other things can come into play in terms of need, fit, upside, even signability.

But when you do have the one clear cut prospect above all others, you take him. That's BPA. And use up clock in the process too just to see what trade offers may be out there.

Risen you're statement is the very basis FOR this thread. I get sick of people on here screaming BPA like that is the be all end all and is always the case. You're right the draft section especially in later rounds you have similar matched players even going by you're on draft board. The purpose of the post was to ask members what traits would they use to "filter out the pack"
