Maybe this is urban rumor, but didn't LJ say he did not like to play for "white coaches"?

Where's the link on that? If indeed he did say that, we wouldn't want him in Philly! But I'd find it difficult to believe that any player in the NFL would make such an absurd comment like that ...it just wouldn't make any sense.

LJ is most def a power back with "moving-the-chains" potential; a multi-threat to most opponent teams.

Click on the link I posted....it shows the entire 9 minute video.

Or I posted the transcript of the quote in question above.

"One thing we hate is to have somebody who is not African-American and come in and say you gotta do this cause then it looks no matter how you put it no matter how big of a friend he is - it it looks like you telling me what to do you dont know where I'm from, you don't what I've gotta live through. And I think having that kind of resentment...you've gotta have a buffer."
I saw it when it happened and even after re-reading what he said, it still makes no sense. I have an idea what he was "trying" to say, but the way he said it, was just so convoluted, I'll just let his words stand on their own merit.

He is basically an idiot even if he has his reasons for feeling that way.

Honestly...most people make sacrifices when they get a good job.

Everything in the world is not how we want it to be.

That guy just sounds like some idiot and it also sounds like Old Crying Vermeil may have been dead on with the diapers/pampers comment.

You know when hallmark dick cries at the drop of a dime and says someone is basically a baby that that person must be pretty bad.

Actually, I changed the entire way that I've viewed Larry Johnson as a result of his attitude. He must have had a very scarred life to have made such a profound comment like that at this juncture in his career.

This isn't even considered a case where a player's off-field antics contrast with his on-field player skills. We all know players whose behavior is unacceptable off the grid iron, yet on the field are probowlers. If he doesn't clarify his statement with an official comment, I would have to totally re-evaluate his being a role-model, team player and someone who children should emulate.

I think he should be publicly made accountable for his statement, which is retrospectively a smack in the face of every NFL coach, regardless of ethnicity.

I really can't wait for this topic to run its course. It was a good discussion yesterday and I enjoyed the joust with Vintage in particular because he made so many good points, but I really find this idea of going after him to be baseless.

Agreed.

Not to go all Yogi Berra on us, but it will either happen or it won't.

We can debate the ramifications if it does happen.

At either rate, training camp needs to start.

I'm starving for news. Can we get some Draft pick negotiations news at least?

I think I am most excited to see how our DBs are doing.....

In particular, Ball, Brown, Jones, Butler, and Reeves....

Amazing that he got away with making those despicable comments.

Maybe that's part of the reason that Kansas City is looking to trade him.

I've spent the last week watching old games at night, so many things I had actually forgotten. Watched the Panthers game last night.

Wake me up when TC starts.

Despicable?

Ill-advised, maybe - but the guy feels how he feels. Maybe he shouldn't have vocalized it, but I don't see anything horrible in what he said.

It's a blatantly racist comment and if that's how he 'feels' then he's a despicable person.

If Rush Limbaugh or Imus said anything close, the backlash would have been ridiculous.

What people need to realize is that terrible comments like this are just that - terrible comments - no matter who's saying them.

And if that's the 'way he feels', I don't want him anywhere near my favorite team.

Let him be someone else's problem.

No, not really. You don't have any idea what might have happened to him to make him feel that way - to resent someone in power who is white. That doesn't make him racist, or anything he said blatantly racist.

Let's say a young boy is abused by his mother, and grows up resenting women in authority - due to psychological pain inflicted by childhood abuse or experiences. Does that make him a bigot, because he can't abide women in power?

Not at all.

There's a double standard, and they're imbeciles. Get over it.

He didn't get away with the comments. I remember there being alot of backlash for them. Don't know if he apologized/clarified, but I know he caught some heat.

Maybe because you've just heard of them, you think he deserves more.

I would love it if Ball or Brown turn out to be a diamond in the rough. I believe Brown will be. I was very high on that kid. If he were to supplant Aaron Glenn as the Nickel CB I think I'd be giddy.

I think Butler, Jones, and Reeves are all on their last legs if these 2 draft picks show they can play. They are much cheaper. I realize we don't need the cap room, but you still tend to pay less for equal production if you can.

Maybe you need to look up the definition of racism.

And Johnson is every bit as much of an 'imbecile'. I don't accept the 'double-standard' so I'm not 'getting over' anything.

It's wrong no matter who says it.

No, I heard about them the first time.

I don't recall him losing his job - or even being fined by the league. I don't see how any 'backlash' could be considered equal.

Johnson didn't really express a hatred for whites, or proclaim his race superior. He didn't suggest that white coaches are only in power because they are white.

All he said was that he doesn't feel he can relate to white coaches, because of his upbringing, and that he doesn't feel a coach like Vermeil could relate to him.

It might be complete horsecrap, but the guy was just expressing his feelings. He wasn't insulting anyone, or making racist/racially degrading comments.

And Johnson is every bit as much of an 'imbecile'. I don't accept the 'double-standard' so I'm not 'getting over' anything.

By all means, take a stand. Make some black friends and cavalierly use the N word around them. Let me know how that works out.

There's nothing wrong with Johnson expressing his feelings. It was stupid to do so, knowing that people would overreact, but nothing was wrong.
