Yes.
People get caught up in the person of Zack Martin...and ignore the position he plays.
Of all the "starting" positions on any football team...if you were to rank them from from LEAST important up to MOST important....we'd all have QB at the top.
But what about the bottom? (Modern rules...and assuming ur not one of the few teams that still uses a roster spot on a fullback)
Kicker and Punter would be the bottom two in whichever order u deem fit.
Then....what....off-ball linebacker?
Then.... probably Guard is next. MAYBE running back (I'd rather spend a 1st rd pick on a guard than a rb).
So there u go. Tackles, centers, QBs, TEs, WRs, all spots on DLine, safeties, CBs, rush LBers, ALL more valuable in today's game than a guard.
Having a great guard like Martin....is kind of in the same ballpark as having a great punter. You want them....and you'd pay them if not for the salary cap....but the salary cap exists! Can't buy Superbowls any more like in the 90's and earlier....gotta earn them by smart team management now (and surprise surprise we've never even been to a SB once the playing field was leveled). Jerruh is right on his stance here.
