If I ran the offense, henceforth we would never, ever, ever, almost never, run it up the middle on second down and 10!. Everybody and their dog knows that is what Garrett is gonna call and we are lucky if we get 2 yards out of it.

i would spice things up a lil! thats what i loved about bill he had one trick play ready when we got on their side of the 50! im talkin flea flickers and wr passes!

i would use felix more in the run and pass game. try im in a wr screen since they have motion out to wr sometime.

like another member i would have marion and felix out there at the same time. it will keep teams on the guessing what we are gonna do next

i would cut that draw run lol! i dont think it has worked all season!

Glad you axed!

OK, first and foremost: Renew the QB-to-T.O. bombing runs now that Williams can draw some attention on the other side. Don't stop there, get Witten in motion and Barber as a frequent receiver.

Protect the QB at all costs.
We've got to protect the slow Brad Johnson and Romo's pinkie when he does come back.

Once Felix is back, let's use him A LOT more.

Common sense, I know, but this is a team loaded with weapons.
Drive the secondary crazy with all the receiving talent we have.

either run the ball on 3rd and 2 or try for an easy pass on 3rd and 2.

there were two 3rd and 2s we didn't make against the cards because we tried for a difficult pass.

Tell Crayton to send Parcells a xmas card! Put Owens in the slot more with Miles @the Z and ROY @ the X. Give MB3 his role back and give Choice and Felix jujos touches! Keep Witten out of blockin assignments whenever I can to let the rookie take some of that abuse. Make doug free the backup @ every position so the oline knows if they get Tony killed again we have ur replacement and bench proctor already!

1) Put montare holland's goblin lookin self in at left guard.
2) Sit back and watch what the offense does after the big man comes in.

id use jones and barber together in the backfield a lot and using jones in motion a lot getting him matched up with a LB a matchup which jones dominates every time! id run more slants because it seems every team runs them and are so succesful with them and we could be too with now having both Roy Williams and T.O big physical targets. and and then id more a lot more rollouts getting Romo out of the pocket we hardly ever run rollouts which i dont understand with the athlete romo is and how good he is throwing outside the pocket!

Holland played one series in AZ. Five plays, punt.

For me I would like to see TO run 5-6 slants a game. It doesnt mean we throw to him every time... but run it and if Tony see's it and its clear. Throw it. Ding dangit!

I would like for us to throw it deep a few times a game... again even if not completed we have to show that we will go deep. Defenses are too comfortable at the LOS. Our O-line and Romo are paying for that.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record...I am not impressed with Garrett at all. I just have not been impressed with his play calling. I think we score so many points because our talent is so immense. That goes back to last year as well. When Sparano was running the show under conservative Bill we scored crazy points too.... That's not to say he can't get better, but if we yokels can figure out the following things, why can't he?

1) Motion TO into the slot area and run drags (i.e. west coast TO)
2) Run quick slants between TO and Romo
3) Quit running TO on outs and comeback routes, that doesn't play to his strengths at all, he should catch the ball either parallel to the line or going forward
4) Let's run some tosses and traps instead of this delayed draw every play, its way too easy to read.
5) Felix Jones? Isn't running back supposed to be the easiest position to transition in the NFL? If he sucks at blitz pick up then don't run him out there in 3-wides or use his speed to destroy the blitz in the flats
6) Crayton in the slot more, that's his area

Those are my thoughts. Am I thinking this is too simple or are these decent ideas?

What would you do if you had the controls?

Those are decent ideas, especially the ones that I put in bold. Irvin used to KILL teams with the slant; that was his specialty. I have no idea why the staff doesn't do more of this with Owens. I think we try too much to get Owens vertical as well, and when that doesn't work, (usually because he is triple teamed), we resort to the quick hitch pass which is almost useless of his abilities.

That was an outstanding post.

If I were in charge of this offense, I'd quit worrying so much about how defenses will react to our tendencies. I'd just tendency them to death with whatever happened to work. (In addition to all the things that have been suggested in this thread) with the money that's going to Leonard Davis, I'd go with the RRR strategy: Run right, repeat.

Pct of Barber's runs by direction
in 4 wins
left 28.2%
middle 17.6%
right 54.2%

in 2 losses
left 24%
middle 48%
right 28%

Screw trying to fool'em all the time. Just go with what works.

I think that you need to throw first to set up the run. It seems that we have forced running the ball first and it hasn't had the impact that it should. Also, need to get Romo in rhythm first. Now, this is not to say not to run the ball, but I think that we are a pass team first and we are forcing the run first.

I agree entirely. In the games when our offense clicks its best, we start out passing, mix in the run to supplement the pass, and then run a lot late to wear the team down and nurse a big lead.

I can't think of too many games where our offense looks great that Barber has a lot of carries by the half.

The first pass of the game should always be a little quick hitch to TO and get romo and him some rhythm

quick slants, out routes, passes to felix in the flat, felix out of the back field to the middle of the field. basically a balanced air attack that doesnt rely on 5 step drops all the freakin time. bascially plays that keep defenses honest, that most other teams run.
