What would you do different if you ran the offense?

Does Owens have the Hands to run those slants like Irvin? Hey forget Felix for a while I'm no doctor but I saw him limp off the field it doesn't look good unless Jerry gets a new training staff!

I want FJ incorporated more in the passing attack but not just screens or 2 yr curl routes in the middle of the field. I want him running routes out of the backfield and from being split out. I want him to force the D to have yet another explosive weapon to account for. TO, RW, JW and FJ on the field running routes together would give D coordinaters nightmares.

Get everyone involved in the passing game. We have to make teams play the entire field not just TO and Witten in the passing game.

Now that I have both Roy and TO on the outside, I'd still run the ball. There won't be 8 men in the box...run, run, run.

That means stay out of the shotgun and run more play-action passes. Yes, I know you can hand the ball to a back from the shotgun, but those play-action fakes aren't nearly as effective as from under center. I think we use shotgun way too often. I would only go to it in obvious long yardage passing downs.

With the play-action pass, I'd have Roy or TO running a slant on almost every play...not the quick blitz slant, but the 5-7 yard, make an out or up move and then slant...both of these guys run that pattern well, and it's perfect off the play-action. Then I'd have the other guy running a slower developing double-move pattern.

I'd run, run, run....then I'd look for the slant and big play as my progression off the play-action fake. Then finally, I'd start running both WR's on deeper patterns, keeping the safety back, and look for Witten ripping the seam up the middle against LBs and the occasional SS.

This means we're going to see a lot of Barber, Choice, and later Felix on LBs in the flats...I like that.

Personally, I like Crayton, but I'd keep him on the sideline more and more. I'd go with two top-notch WRs and 2 TE's (sometimes both on the line; sometimes one as the blocking back)...This would keep most defenses away from the nickel, so they'd have to respect the run with lbs instead of extra DB's....that's pass heaven for Witten and our RBs out of the backfield...and it creates more room for TO and Roy...the more receivers you put back there with more DB's, the less room there is to operate because when Romo extends a play, receivers are always running into another defender's area.

Simple, but when you have the playmakers, there's no reason to get too fancy.

Those are decent ideas, especially the ones that I put in bold. Irvin used to KILL teams with the slant; that was his specialty. I have no idea why the staff doesn't do more of this with Owens. I think we try too much to get Owens vertical as well, and when that doesn't work, (usually because he is triple teamed), we resort to the quick hitch pass which is almost useless of his abilities.

1. Irvin was the physical master of the slant, but let's not forget that the real reason no one could stop it was because of Aikman's accuracy. A guy could be hanging on Irvin's back, and Aikman would put the ball low and inside where only Irvin had a shot.

2. Romo is a great QB, but no one will confuse him with Aikman's machine-like accuracy...when you run that slant a lot, a pass just a little off will get knocked up in the air for grabs.

I would put in the punting team on 2nd down and run a fake.

Then I would put Owens at qb for a series and him do things with the ball. This is just to confuse the defense.

If Romo is getting killed because OL is not performing, why not have him roll out more like we used to past 2 years.

1. Run a few more gadget plays early on to get the offense going. The offense seems to stall early on then make a surge as it appears they are trying to read the defense, which is understandable. But I'd like to get a little more firepower early in the game. Perhaps a flee flicker or maybe something like the Cardinals ran against us last week...a fake double screen and then the TE releases midfield.

2. Test Felix out lined up as a receiver and if defenses are going to try and cover him with a LB and if he can punish them for doing so.

3. Cut down on the fake slant/draw running play.

4. More play action.

5. More max protect when the O-Line isn't up to snuff.

6. Actually running a slant for the play we love to fake throwing.

I really can't complain too much about the offense or Garrett for that matter. His statistics, particularly scoring, are outstanding in just 1 1/2 seasons. I think we have more issues on defense and that puts pressure on our offense.

I would try 5 yard passes on 1st down, just to give us more luxury on 2nd and 3rd down. Just short tosses, WR screens, HB tosses out of the backfield, something to make the defense want to come closer to the LOS.

I would use Felix all of the time. That guy is too explosive not to use. I would have TO all over that formation and constantly in Motion, I would even put him at TE sometimes, he wouldn't block from there, but just to confuse the defense a bit.

Oh I can complain about Garrett.

I don't think he has a feel for one-on-one matchups on the line. Instead of pounding the defense with Barber running behind Davis and Colombo, he'd rather run left behind Procter a certain number of times to avoid being predictable. At least this year, and particularly the last 3 games, Garrett looks like he's using the run as just a means to an end. When he calls a run, he's got his mind on the long pass play that will be set up by that run.

i would like to see the ole flea flicker, and the halfback pass used at some point in this decade.
