We have several big dollar FAs to take care of this off season, not to mention so many holes in our Swiss cheese defense to fill that it will take three years to get where we want to be. We couldn't even sign anyone worth a crap this past off season. We're cap strapped with a mediocre team. So much for cap managemen, but good luck with that. It's not 1991! The league doesn't work that way now. Plus, as I noted, we hit the jackpot with the Walker trade. Everyone in the world knows that trade is the reason the team got so good so quick. Everyone from Jerry Jones to Jimmy Johnson has acknowledged this fact.

Remember during the preseason the idea was Spencer coming back would be a shot in the arm to the pass rush?

Good times.

All we get now is him laughing it up on the sidelines when the defense is getting dominated.

Oh well. At least we have the triumphant return of Josh Brent forthcoming.

Yes, it is possible to "fix" this defense in one off-season. They've been good enough to win most of the games this season.

They could have signed more players or retained player like Ware this season. They could have made room under the cap. They wisely decided that it was not worth it which gives them more space for next year and future years. The NFL cap is going up substantially and the Cowboys will have much less dead-money than they've had for several years.
