I don't think there is a team in the league that would give two firsts for Romo, so I would throw that out the window. If someone were to offer a first and a third, I would say Dallas did well.

Agreed. 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd.

That's exactly why I brought up the question. I already said there is absolutely no way anyone would ever offer us two firsts but if someone wanted Romo that is what it would take to get him away from me. I like Romo and wouldn't trade him. Mostly because I know the scenario I would need for him to leave is unlikely. I was just interested in where everyone else valued him and where their breaking point would be in order to let him go

In all honestly, no one would give us a 1st or 2nd. Romo is not as highly valued outside the Cowboys and its fans. A 3rd rounder is the highest we could get.

Carson friggin' Palmer was traded for a 1st and a conditional 2nd which can become a 1st if he makes the AFC Title game.

You're telling me Romo couldn't garner two 1st's?

a 1st in next years draft, there's no QBs worth spending a 1st on in this years class

I'm Romo's biggest critic on this forum and I can assure you we could easily get a first for him. There are a handful of teams with awful QB's that would gladly give up a 1st for him.

The only issue is he's just got one year left then he would likely be a UFA. We'd still easily get a 1st but he'd need more years on an existing contract for a team to give two 1sts. Either way, teams would be tripping over themselves to get to the phones if Romo was actually on the block.

2nd this year and 1st next year. That would be 3 picks in the top 2 rounds and I would draft an OL with 2 of the 3 picks. Let Orton start this year and not really worry about how bad it gets. I would also draft a QB this year in the mid rounds that I thought could be the long term backup. Next year I would target a franchise QB with an additional 1st in case I wanted to move up to get him.

Can't believe what everyone thinks about what we can get. The reality is what would Jerry take and which teams would really consider him.

Look at what other trades have got. Palmer who was out of football for over a half year, injuried and not considered even a top 15 QB garnered a 1st and a 2nd that could be a 1st. Percy Harvin garnered a 1st, 7th and a 3rd in 2014 for a WR that has almost as many games injured as he plays and we think Romo is less of a player than Harvin.

Take a team like the Jags who have a decent OL (far better than ours), two decent WRs, a very, very good RB, a new coach, new owner, and some $30 million under the cap and oh, no QB worth a darn. Betting they would offer far more than anyone on the board believes.

Look at the Browns, they actually believe they are a QB away from winning the division. How much is that worth?

Take Arizona, with Seattle, San Francisco and Rams all getting better, they are folder for the NFC West unless they get real lucky with a QB in the draft or trade for a good one. Otherwise, they are looking at another horrible season.

If we trade Romo, and I doubt it, we should get no less than two 1st round picks and more for a top ten type QB which whether we think so or not, he is that.

Yeah, they would definitely need to have a new contract agreed to before the trade was official.

I would bet if you did an unofficial poll, every GM around the league would tell you that the Raiders were incredibly foolish to do that. One of those real eye openers.

Tony Romo is the most criticized player by the media and fans alike but the minute he goes to another team he'll somehow gain a ton of respect and be labeled a top 5 QB........

And the next Cowboys qb who doesn't win a superbowl will be a "choker" a "bust" etc. When will people realize that its the star not Romo. Phillip Rivers and Matt Ryan are straight up basically a three headed Romo clone, yet people STILL say Rivers is better than Romo and no one calls Ryan a choker. If Romo played for any other team he would be accepted as a top 10 QB by everyone. I've never seen a player so underrated AND THEN everyone think he's overrated. So everyone is saying he sucks, yet he's overrated? So I guess he's the worst qb in the league then. Its two 1s or nothing and if he was on the block we would get it within 2 days.

For conversational sake, I definitely could see the boys getting 2 firsts and possibly something additional from a qb hungry team like Arizona, Minnesota, Jacksonville, and Buffalo.

The only reason why the teams mentioned above might not trade is:

-Arizona might still be hurting from the Kolb deal and not want to trade for a qb (but they really need one especially in their division)
-Minnesota knows they are a qb away from taking that next step... Romo could help them where Ponder is still a huge question mark. They might not with the history of the debacle of a trade they did with Dallas years ago.
-Jacksonville would do it in their sleep from every standpoint out there. They want to win more games and he would boost attendance even for only a 4 year period or so.
-Buffalo is similar to Minnesota in that they have a nice running game and a qb would really help open up their offense even more.

And the best example I can use is Alex Smith. If he can garner a 2nd w/his salary, no doubt Romo can garner 2 firsts at least even at 33.

I would not trade Romo, period.
But neither would I pin my hopes on him in a playoff game or half hopes he can take us to the Super Bowl. He just isn't cut out for high-stakes games.

Could we use him in the regular season and then replace him with a capable (Flacco-like) QB for a possible playoff games.

(Hurry up, Johnny Foosball!!! In the words of Jerra: "We need you.")

Provided that he would be willing to sign a deal with them (and why wouldn't he, given the fact that he'd get to throw to Larry Fitz and play golf year round...)

Romo to Arizona for the 7th overall pick, a 3rd rounder, and a second rounder in 2014 that turns into a first if Romo hits some performance standards in 2013.

No brainer for either team.

The criticism he garners is primarily due to his performance in December, the playoffs, and do or die games. We all know he has top 5 stats. What he doesn't have is top 5 results. His main problem is that several, but not all, of the big games Dallas has lost can easily be pinpointed to a Romo mistake. Right or wrong, thats just the way it is. At the same time the Romo apologists clamor for a better supporting cast around Romo, it can just as easily be argued that the team has had plenty of talent to win but Romo has made too many mistakes at key times in key games. The bottom line is he hasn't matched his results to his stats and that is why he is highly criticised. Just take this past year. He came out and started talking to the media about how he had grown as a player and was over all the poor play in key games issues and then lo and behold, he has a subpar game in a win or go home situation and there he was on TV once again hanging his head with that gloom and doom deer in the headlight look he always gets when things start to go bad. He invites all the criticism he gets and it is well deserved. The second his results match his stats, the entire world will jump off his back and he will get the recognition his stats say he deserves.

It would be a no brainer... except that JJ is the GM and it's a little late with all the restructuring and frachising Spencer imo.

Only way this would happen is if they honestly feel Orton can get the job done and Romo or his agent does something that JJ doesn't like or agree with during negotiations.

The most realistic option is a 2nd this year and a 1st next year. A team will have no problem giving up a 1st for Romo, but not for one that is already guaranteed in the top 10 this year. They would give up next years 1st when they would presumably be improved. When Cutler was traded a few years ago the 1st the Broncos got was #18 to go along with the future 1st. I would say down grading that #18 to a 2nd for a guy 4 years older is pretty realistic.

So would I do #40 and a 4th or 5th this year + a 1st next year? Would depend on what I knew about the contract negotiations so far. If Romo is really expecting anywhere near 60M guaranteed over 3 years I pull the trigger.
