A number of academic studies have found links between mild traumatic brain injuries, such as concussions, and the onset of mental illness and personality changes. Several people who know Randle also point out that he’s right around the age when many psychiatric disorders typically reveal themselves on their own.

Really the crux of the article right here. The guy is not right. Cowboys fans have pretty consistently ignored his mental issues - and I tend to think that the team cast him aside unfairly as well - and just assume he's an "idiot." That doesn't seem true at all.

Sad . Could of had a decent career. Had some talent but didn't have a brain.. Concussions seem to have missed him up

I tend to agree. Society in general, and the NFL in particular seem to have difficulty recognizing and acknowledging mental health issues.

His life is trending towards a Junior Seau type of ending. Sad but possibly true. Traumatic head injuries are no joke. :(

Good article and worth a read. He was nowhere near the talent of Elliot but he would have been a fine backup had he kept his head on straight.

People with borderline mental issues can be pushed over the edge when the spotlight shines on them. I think that is what happened to Randle.

I also think that Greg Hardy had the same issue. The combination of the girl accusing him of domestic violence and playing for the Dallas Cowboys was just more than he could handle.

I see your point, but I don't believe it's the Dallas Cowboys responsibility to take care of the guy, besides the Cowboys are well known for doing more for players than any other team. It was Joseph Randles actions that ruined his future. We can debate whether it was "brain trauma" as a result of concussions all we want, but at the end of the day.. Nobody forced Randle to play football. He choose football, like many players, because he had the talent to get paid better than he ever would anywhere else. Players will gladly take the lucrative salary and wildly spend it without discipline or regard for thier future, yet thier employer is held responsible for thier health? No. It's a business and should be treated as such. The players have negotiated a players union for these matters. And I'll also note: I have a CDL license. If I go drink and drive on my off time and get arrested for DUI, lose my license, I'd surely be fired.. Do you think it's my employers responsibility to make sure I'm ok? The answer is no. It's my responsibility. Wish more people in this world would get that only you are responsible for your actions. And I'll end with..if Randle needed help and couldn't see that..well, that's when family and friends should have told him. Of course, you are who you surround yourself with.

We have the entire offseason to talk about JR. We are in playoff mode, we have so many more worth topics to discuss, so why waste this period in time on him? Discussion needs to be shelved and brought back out after our Cowboys have completed this playoff run, hopefully in 30 days.

I don't know if it was due to concussions or if his bubble was always a little off centered.

I think those are different. Seaus were from concussions, I think Randle is just an idiot.

Smh somebody earlier in this post correctly acknowledged that people don't give mental health issues the due respect and just want to write people off as being "idiots" way to not disappoint
