What's in "the book" on Dak?

I hear this all the time it seems. "It will be harder for him to have the sane success because there's film on him now." "There's a book on him now after a year of playing so it's going to be easier to defend him. " I hear those things, or things similar to that, often.

So, what's in the book on Dak? What is in the year of film that benefits defenses?

What is something you feel that defenses coordinators will have zoomed in on? What's the weakness that jumps of the tape?

To make it hard on Dak they should make him throw the ball down the field. It is his biggest weakness right now in my opinion.

Taking away the run also makes it hard on Dak. So you can expect all teams to try to do both to the extent possible.

Probably a lot of Cover 5 which helps take away the edge on run plays and take away bootlegs while doubling Dez. This forces the Cowboys to win with inside zone run plays and with Beasley/Witten in the pass game. My guess is a lot more pre-snap shifts and blitz looks on defense.

Under Romo we had the tendency to get lured into that by D-Coordinators. This slowed down the pace of offense too much and D-Coordinators like Haslett would set Romo up by showing blitzes early on in the game and then determining where Romo was likely going with the ball and then fake blitz looks and coverage shells to get Romo to throw into bad spots. If you hike the ball sooner, you don't allow for all that shifting and it keeps the pass rushers off balance.

We started to see that issue in the first game against the Eagles and then the 2nd game against the Giants. But afterward we picked up the pace and the offense came on strong to close out the season.

The only other things I can see is trying to get Dak to slide left or right He tended to struggle a bit when he had to slide left or right and then make the throw. They may also try to find ways to double Beasley and Dez instead of bracketing Dez and T-Will. Tough to effectively double Beasley or Dez without a safety and a corner which can leave T-Will, Witten, Switzer and EE with very favorable matchups.

I wish that were true but there is a book on every QB.

You don't beat the truly elite QB's. You beat their supporting cast. When teams beat Edelman and Gronk, Brady struggles. Rodgers' struggles over the years have come from the incompetence of his receivers and Eddie Lacey eating his way out of the league. If either QB gets quality performances from a few players on their supporting cast, they'll almost always beat you. That's when we'll know Dak is an elite QB.

I like that and Dak does a great job of spreading the ball around to several targets. They can't possibly all be covered when they are doing their job right. The book on Dak is much like the book on Michael Jordan... you can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him.

I imagine it's a lot more specific than most laymen can spot off the television. Something along the lines of, "When they're in a 3 WR set and you blitz the A gap with 3 deep coverage he always tries to throw 'here' and only completes it 50% of the time" or "He won't take the Z post you do 'this',,, etc

nothing, defenses had plenty of tape last year to figure out Dak and our offensive horsepower - 2017 I think will be fun including continued success for our QB, Dak,

If I was a defensive coordinator I would start with data like his passing chart to decipher the "book on dak"

Based on this data, I'd guess that two deep safeties would not be necessary and playing the odds, I'd stack everything closer to the LOS.

There's a book on Brady and Rodgers also.

Right. There's a book on everyone. But there are just some guys you can read the book and still can't beat them. I don't see why Dak can't be that guy based on what he showed last year.

For some reason people refuse to give Dak much credit. Or refuse to believe that Dak may be as good as he was last year.

Everyone keeps talking about "the book" on him....as if that book wasn't shown last season.

He's suppose to regress based on the book on him....but who's to say he doesn't get better? Isn't that what's suppose to happen? Get better after your rookie year where everything is new to you?

Gang up on the run, cover the short middle routes, keep him in the pocket, don't let him roll to his right, force him to go downfield.

We'll see if he solves that this season.

thats exactly what I'd do. He likes that rollout pass to the TE also

But it's true there's a book on everyone. There's a book on Brady, but can you stop him or do you have the personnel to stop him

The book on Dak : Dak has a below average NFL arm and must be able to utilize the middle of the field so obviously you want to try to force him to throw to the sidelines especially to his left. This is the book on Dak. Having said this taking away the middle of the field will be tough that's a lot of green to cover. I expect Dak will have a good year his yards and passing TDs should come up but his INTs will most likely double. Giants most likely win the NFC this year our defense and pass rush will struggle going from one of the easiest schedules last year to one of the tuffest this year.
