Other than having a great QB to get him the ball I don't understand why is considered a top tier WR. He has always reminded me of a Joe Jurevicius type but only slightly better.
Your thoughts?

He catches a lot of passes in key situations, that the s why the big deal. Yes he has Rodgers as a QB, so what, if it makes him better, then it's an issue we need to deal with. Not focused on the player and his skills within himself.
Still the team makes him a threat.. That's why he's such a big deal.

I hear this a lot. I know a lot of people who I thought were fairly knowledgable about football who compare him to Wes Welker and Edelman which to me is absolutely ridiculous.

I think it's a matter of people (usually good people) falling prey to racial stereotypes.

I know it's not Political Correct but I am going to go out on a limb and say that Nelson is chronically underrated because is a white guy playing a position almost never played by white WRs any more. He plays flanker and/or split-end. He isn't a slot guy.

His stats speak for themselves... Nelson broke the ALL-TIME NFL record this year for long TD passes (40+ yards more) with 7. The record was previously held by (tied) Rice/Bob Hayes/Elroy Hirsh. I don't think you do that if you don't have some special attributes.

He knows how to get open and very good after the catch. 1,519 yards rec and 13 TD his numbers speak for themselves.

If you ignore him, he will kill you. Who cares if the only reason he's good is because of the QB. The QB is playing. So the defense better know where he is at all times and how to deal with him.

Good stuff. I haven't seen enough of him to form an fair opinion. To be honest, I always thought he was the guy who went to Texas when Colt McCoy was there. I remember there was a white WR there who was pretty good. I think he got drafted into the NFL. I always thought that was Jordy Nelson until I googled him and realized he went to Kansas State.

I love the upcoming opponent really isn't any good make ourselves feel better threads. GB is good, Rodgers is good, Lacy is good, Nelson is good. We are going to have to go out and beat a good team Sunday just like we beat a good Lions team last week.

People that that because he is white. Was Joe J. ever 4th in yards receiving for the season. Was Joe J. ever even his team's #1 receiver?

At the combine Nelson was slightly faster in the forty, ten, short shuttle and 3-cone than Dez at his Pro Day and Nelson is 5/8" taller. Dez did jump significantly higher.

Nelson has a Witten like ability to get open and is one of the best at getting his feet in bounds on sideline catches.

I just wonder how he is always so open.

Opposing fans ask that same question of Jason Witten. The guy has the speed of a glacier, yet he always seems to be open.
It's about understanding defenses, finding open spots in the defense and running good patterns.

Nelson also does all these things very well.

He's extremely fast and quick and catches everything. He is an excellent player.

YR

His 40 times is 4.51. Only a .01 second difference between his and Dez's. So he's not exactly a burner which is why I always wonder how he gets behind a defence so frequently.

Haha it was Jordan Shipley who I was thinking of. He got drafted in the 3rd round in 2009, Jordy Nelson was drafted in the 2nd round in 2008. Shipley was a little guy who played slot. Two totally different receivers. I don't know if Shipley is still any good.

He might be that he is more of a long strider. I suspect if your compared their times in the 60 or 80 the different would be bigger.

At least that's why my untrained eye tells me when I see him play.

Cobb probably has something to do with it. When you have a slot WR as good as Cobb is it sucks in the safeties big time.

Jordy tore it up before Cobb. Jordy is sneaky fast, strong, tall, has good hands and most importantly.. he is smart as hell and knows how to fool defenders. I watch a lot of football and he is an extremely good WR. Will work relentlessly to get open and he and Rodgers are both sneaky and smart so they feed off of each other.
