Whats the big deal about Jordy Nelson?

Haha it was Jordan Shipley who I was thinking of. He got drafted in the 3rd round in 2009, Jordy Nelson was drafted in the 2nd round in 2008. Shipley was a little guy who played slot. Two totally different receivers. I don't know if Shipley is still any good.

Edit: Apparently he retired this year. I guess that answers my question. I apologize Jordy for ever confusing you with this guy. In my defense, it had more to do with when they played, where they got drafted, and their first names than it did with their skin color.

Opposing fans ask that same question of Jason Witten. The guy has the speed of a glacier, yet he always seems to be open.
It's about understanding defenses, finding open spots in the defense and running good patterns.

Nelson also does all these things very well.

See, I actually disagree with this. Obviously, Witten is not Jimmy Graham or Vernon Davis, but Witten is a guy that has quick cuts and side to side speed. Sure, he doesn't have that 4.2 straight line speed, but for a big 32 year old TE, I think people underestimate that he can still move. The same goes for Gates, their size is deceiving.

However, I do think it's time to really start looking for Witten's replacement. Get rid of Hanna and look in this draft for a rookie TE (I know, I know this defense needs help and we just drafted escobar!).

Yeah, Jordy has got Rodgers at QB which pads his stats and makes him appear better than he really his, but he's solid and takes advantage of those passes. Look at how many passes Terrence Williams drops when Romo puts it in the perfect place. That guy needs to make contested catches with his hands soon or the Cowboys should move on...

What's it going to be then, eh?

Cobb probably has something to do with it. When you have a slot WR as good as Cobb is it sucks in the safeties big time.

Not really. He pulls the numbers even when Cobb has been injured.

Did I imagine a stat that Williams had zero drops this year?

Theres a difference between speed and quickness. I said he runs good patterns. To do that, TE's require quickness, not necessarily speed. Wittenr is quick, but not fast. Nelson is both, which makes him very dangerous.

As for Wittens replacement, I believe the organization thinks Escobar may be that guy.

why get rid of Hanna? Many of the runs by Murray have been helped by Hanna blocking.

Jordy's a very good player. And, thanks, everybody, for remembering to be tactful about race issues in the threads.

I can still visualize multiple passes where Romo put it up for him to catch and he either didn't go up after it or he made a half-asst attempt,,, and this last game there was a perfect back shoulder pass that went right through his hands.

Other than having a great QB to get him the ball I don't understand why is considered a top tier WR. He has always reminded me of a Joe Jurevicius type but only slightly better.
Your thoughts?

Id say just watch him play. Obviously anybody who posts a thread like this hasnt really watched him play. He is a top Wr in the game. Catches everything, strong fast. Great routes. You name it and he does it. One of the underpaid WRs in the NFL.

He knows how to get open and have some deceptive speed not explosive speed but deceptive and he's really a good route runner and if the defense isn't careful he can get open for a 70 yd TD down field just ask the Bears the Cowboys defense will have their work cut out for them that is for sure.

We will have to let someone go at the TE position if we are going to draft another TE. We can get rid of Escobar, sure, but I don't think that's what the coaching staff would do since we drafted him in the second round. I don't just want a TE who can block, we need to bring in a receiving TE quickly.

He knows how to get open and very good after the catch. 1,519 yards rec and 13 TD his numbers speak for themselves.

yea thats one thing ive noticed when ive caught packer games. their WRs seem to be SO wide open and get YAC.
