What's the deal between Roger Staubach and Danny White?

I remember there was something between the two but forgot.
It still looked like there was tension between the two when they
had that reunion special on Babe's Cowboy pregame show last Sunday.

Danny Had to wait a long time to take over- then he did not win it all and a lot of Cowboy fans never forgave him that. taking over for a legend is pretty tough. I do not think that its anything personal- just the way things happened. I have always thought that if Drew Pearson had not gotten tackled by his jersey and gone all the way for the TD that would have won the game IN SPITE of "the Catch" we would have gone on to win the SB. Danny threw a pick to end the game- and we were never really that close to making the SB again. Had we won it all that year- his second as a starter- the team and HE would have had the confidence that we could do it again with him as the QB. I think then we would have won at least one more SB.

That Pearson play was a close one.

I don't know what their relationship is now but when they were on the team together they hung out a good bit. White was supposedly a better athlete than Roger off the field at least and beat him often in basketball and ping pong. I was told they got along well but didn't hear about them being the best of buddies or having problems. I never asked a lot of questions though and just listened.

Actually, White was sacked and fumbled to end the game. Agree with your points though.

I was born in '79 and did not have to watch that horror, but after the pump job ESPN gives the catch, I decided to find the game.

I was sick to my stomach after Pearson got tackled and mainly because we would never have had to live with The Catch nonsense.

Are you sure it is White you are thinking of? As far as I know White and Staubach were good teammates, Staubach and Morton on the other hand did have a rift.

WOW we have some young pups over here,. Yes it was a fumble and to say he didn't win, Is a Joke. The Defense gave up over 200 yards rushing to the iggles Leroy Harris and W Montgomery, And if you think he lost the Nine game your sadly mistaken, He fumbled as he was sacked but he put up major points and then the next year the Dead skins killed him, I don't know why guys think he is a loser, He reminds me of Steve Young but ( he won a SB by cheating the salary cap ) Took over for a legend and never one the big one.
If your going to bash a player please make sure you know the facts, Also he crossed the picket lines while there was a strike so that had a lot to do with dissension among some players, included was Dorsett and Randy White,

I used to call Steve Young the "Danny White of the '90s". Until he finally won a SB. Used to drive my whiner friends mad.

I thought it was a pick but it was a fumble. Thing was if we beat the Niners then then I think we win the SB vs the Bengals. Then the team and Danny then believe he can win the big one.

Well der, they would've just won the Super Bowl, it is pretty easy to have faith in something you've already done.;)

There was a very famous picture of Roger sitting down and looking at teh camera, behind him was Danny White with a crazed look in his eye his arm raised with a helmet grasped by the face mask like he was going to hit Roger with it.

(Couldn't find the picture.)

That photo was a spoof but did a lot to build a belief that there was acrimony between the 2. There were even articles about them clashing over religion (both were religious).

In truth the bad blood was between Roger and Clint Longley. It was instigated by Longely who believed that he deserved a shot but would never get a fair one as long as he was with Dallas. He wanted out of Dallas so bad that he sucker punched Roger in the mouth.

Longley engineered a famous performance on Thanksgiving against the Commanders. An amazing improbable win that had Commanders fans asking "who the hell is Clint Longley?"

The best comment ever on Longley's improbable performance that day was uttered by one of the 3 founding members of the Zero Club (great moment in Cowboys History) Blaine Nye. When asked about Longley's performance he called it "the triumph of an uncluttered mind."

White came along after Longley and kind of inherited the feud with Roger beliefs.

I want to see the wall paper of Danny.

I met him a few years ago while he was coaching the AFL Rattlers. He is an amazing guy. I was also at Sun Devil, excuse me, Scum Devil Stadium when they retired his jersey number. Kind of cool that he and his Dad, a famous Judge as well as player, both have their numbers retired there.

Hey I like that. Okay with you if I use it at work for a while? I change every month and needed one for December. My way of showing of the graphics work done here.

I prefer to remember the other "catch."
When Aikman lofted one to Kelvin Martin in the fourth quarter of the NFC championship game in 1992 (?). The Farty-niners were expected a run and Jimmy Johnson gambled and had Aikman throw long to the right side of the field. The farty-niners never recovered from that catch and the Boys went on to win and went on to a successful Super Bowl.
But, of course, the media did not latch on to that catch that ended the 49ers rule of the NFL and launched the second Cowboy Dynasty. Amen.
