What's the deal between Roger Staubach and Danny White?

Danny was alot like Drew... big numbers but you can always count on the choke. (i saw danny play as a kid and suffered thru the post Roger tease).

Danny lead a lot of come from behind wins for Dallas playoff games included. Danny does not have a ring but not having one was not all Danny fault.

And lets face it- the past 15 years its been a lot easier to pass then it was even in the 80's. I would question the part about the best offense though; I think in 1971 Dallas had Roger, Calvin Hill, Duane Thomas, Walt Garrison, Bob Hayes, Lance Allworth, Mike Ditka. WIth all due respect to Tony Hill and Drew Pearson, the combo of Hayes and Allworth were better. TD is pretty much negated by the trio; and Ditka was a HOF TE. And the O line was better.

You really can't compare circa 1971 (which obviously was a terrific offensive team) with what happened to the league and the change in rules benefitting the offense at the end of the 1970's.

Yeah talent wise the 1971 team was outstanding... but production wise I've never seen a Cowboy offense as potent as that of the early 1980's with D. White at QB.

Geez I didn't know you knew anything about graphics...

Polls on the other hand. :D

I'm just a bit better than "mediocre" Thank you.

I am a poll monster...especially the ones where I am allowed to vote for any of the options...

Drew Bledsoe hasn't led a team to the playoff's since the 1990's... think about that.

I think there was only a single season with D. White as the QB where the Cowboys did not go to the playoffs.

Yeah "mediocre" is a good way to describe your graphics ability... I think I've heard some others use that word also. :)

As long as you follow the polling rules and don't deviate... the second you break those... like say only vote for one when you're suppose to vote for two and you're a marked man.

I used to call Steve Young the "Danny White of the '90s". Until he finally won a SB. Used to drive my whiner friends mad.

I would think that Donovan McNabb would also be the Danny White of this decade except he did FINALLY make it to the SB. What did he lose like 3 or 4 NFC Championship games. I give him a pass on the one to the RAMS. The Eagles were not that good, and the Rams were dominant.

How can you guys compare QBs from different decades of Football, and for those of you that didnt see him play SHUT THE CHUCK UP already, tards.

Longley engineered a famous performance on Thanksgiving against the Commanders. An amazing improbable win that had Commanders fans asking "who the hell is Clint Longley?"

The best comment ever on Longley's improbable performance that day was uttered by one of the 3 founding members of the Zero Club (great moment in Cowboys History) Blaine Nye. When asked about Longley's performance he called it "the triumph of an uncluttered mind."

I have been to two Cowboys games in my life, but that game was one of them. My mother's father was with us at the time.

Brings back memories.

I used to have photos of that game; I took a camera there. Don't have any clue where those photographs are anymore. The winning touchdown was something to see, watching Drew split the two defenders so cleanly.

David.

Ok...Staubach's one of the greatest QBs of all time so Danny White can't get but so mad. That's just like Jeff Garcia taking over for Steve Young...LOL!

My impressions of White are/were:

When he was on, he was as good a QB as this team ever had. His bad games were worse than Roger's. In Roger's two best seasons he gave up 5 and 9 interceptions respectively. Danny in a bad game could toss 2-4 ints.

I have the feeling that Danny was at least the equal of Phil Simms and probably better. Danny wasn't as apt as Phil was early in his career to toss up a critical int.

David.

Oh man, I'd love to see photos from that game.

Yeah. The Danny White years really were a disappointing tease. Staubach was an incredibly difficult act to follow.

In their last year or two of their careers, there were similarities between Danny White and Troy Aikman. Both played on sad teams, behind poor OLs, and might as well have worn targets on their jerseys (instead of numbers) - they were hit regularly. And they were both banged up....
