What's the deal between Roger Staubach and Danny White?

I prefer to remember the other "catch."
When Aikman lofted one to Kelvin Martin in the fourth quarter of the NFC championship game in 1992 (?). The Farty-niners were expected a run and Jimmy Johnson gambled and had Aikman throw long to the right side of the field. The farty-niners never recovered from that catch and the Boys went on to win and went on to a successful Super Bowl.
But, of course, the media did not latch on to that catch that ended the 49ers rule of the NFL and launched the second Cowboy Dynasty. Amen.
Scoring was rather anti-climactic on that drive, what really took the wind from the sails was the 78 yard catch and run by Alvin Harper on a simple slant pattern over the middle. Winning was inevitable with so little time left.

If Bledsoe every had a twin it was Danny White. Danny White was never good ,he is just like Bledsoe throw interceptions at bad times and couldn't get out of the way of a pass rush if his life depended on it. Danny White was horrible period.

:welcome:

Took you a long time to post. Hope you'll join more conversations.

I can't agree on White and Bledsoe being similar beyond uniform number. Bledsoe does remind me of Craig Morton. Hell of an arm, came up short in big games.

Danny White I beleive actually ended his career with a higher QB rating then Roger did- or was very close to it. He was a very good QB. Just not a great one.

I think some of that can be attributed to the fact Dallas was losing great talent and not bringing in great talent to replace them. Danny was caught in a period where the teams drafting really took a slide. Danny took the brunt of the blame by many and a lot of the blame I always felt was a bit unfair.

And to what do you attribute your comment with, what are your facts? or is it an opinion ? what makes a great QB in your opinion? Did you see Danny White play? He brought him back plenty of times,The Atlanta playoff game Monday night against the Skins, I mean to call Danny White a horrible QB is just ludicrous. To even argue with you after calling him horrible, is asinine, I don't know why I need to defend him here on a Cowboys forum, He was a Solid QB that should not be blamed for our loses in the Championships. No Gary Hogeaboom was better, maybe that stick Steve Peuleur, Please Are you even a Cowboy fan?

He wasn't bad. He just gets a bad rap for not winning it all.

Now he wasn't good enough to carry the team on his own, but the unfortunate aspect for him was that he came along at the beginning of the downhill fall and the rest of the team wasn't good enough.

The worst part about it is we came in 2nd in the NFC three years in a row to three different teams. After that it really started deteriorating. '81 was definitely our best chance. I still remember Cosbie scoring the go ahead TD in the fourth and then futiliy hoping we'd get an interception or stop them on downs during the final 6:00 of that game. Then in the final minute to have Drew come so close to breaking it all the way and then for us to almost get in FG range only to fumble it away was about as bad as the catch.

That game still haunts me. The three Super Bowls in the 90's were great, but the teams of the late 70's to early 80's are the ones I grew up with and those players then seemed bigger than life. To have won a Super Bowl then would've been the pinnacle for me.

Wow, this has to have been posted by someone who never saw Danny White play. White was a very accurate passer, a fine punter and an all-around quality guy. The Cowboys may not have won a Super Bowl during his time as QB, but that was by no means his fault alone.

Are you sure it is White you are thinking of? As far as I know White and Staubach were good teammates, Staubach and Morton on the other hand did have a rift.

And Staubach and Longley.

HUH?

Not trying to be a wise guy but you're totally off base.

I've been watching the Cowboys since 1971 and they never had a better offense than the one Danny White led during the early 80's. Not Troy, Not Roger led a more complete offense.

Saying Danny White is the "twin" of Drew Bledsoe is an insult to Danny White. Danny White excelled in the short to medium range passing game. Very accurate just didn't have a strong arm. And he wasn't a statue in the pocket.

He retired with an 81.7 passer rating which is about 4 points better than Bledsoe's.

I also feel that Danny White deserves more credit than what he is given.

After Roger's retirement the 1980 season was expected to be a down year.

Under Danny's leadership the team finished 12/4 ans Mr White passed for 3,287 yards. He also led a heroic comeback in the 4th quarter of the Divisional Playoff game against Atlanta.

Although Roger will always be my favorite NFL QB Danny White proved to be more than a worthy replacement. It's too bad he never won a SB the guy was winner on and off the field.

And lets face it- the past 15 years its been a lot easier to pass then it was even in the 80's. I would question the part about the best offense though; I think in 1971 Dallas had Roger, Calvin Hill, Duane Thomas, Walt Garrison, Bob Hayes, Lance Allworth, Mike Ditka. WIth all due respect to Tony Hill and Drew Pearson, the combo of Hayes and Allworth were better. TD is pretty much negated by the trio; and Ditka was a HOF TE. And the O line was better.
