What's the draft like in your house?

Two things I remember most...being terrified of not getting Roy Williams when we traded down and time ran out on the clock (think the Chiefs ended up getting Ryan Sims?) and watching Steven Jackson gloriously fall...and fall...and fall...and then we trade out of the 1st round...my friends and I were stunned.

Same here. I was already starting the process of looking for SJ memorabilia before we drafted him. Everyone was so sure he was gonna be our guy. That's one of the things I love though, the draft is so unpredictable.

I wonder who's gonna be the Aaron Rodgers of this years draft?

I already have a list of things I need. Since I will be watching the draft by my lonesome, I have all I need in my room:

HD TV...check

Laptop for Cowboy Zone madness...check

Some Honey Hot Wings...check

Xbox for the down time...check
 
I always watch the draft while stretched out on my sofa, remote in hand... I'll flip between the Orioles game and the draft, if the Wizards are on I'll catch some of that, if the PGA tournament that week looks interesting I'll look in on that...

And since I work graveyard shifts on Friday night and Saturday night, I generally doze just a little through the course of the festivities...

When I wake up, LOL, I catch up on what picks I may have missed, scratch them off of my spreadsheets...

And I even find some time to post to message boards too!!!

It makes for a full weekend; every year, I promise myself that I'm gonna ask for that Saturday night off, I tell myself that I'm too old to be going sleep deprived that way... and every year, I forget to do that... :D
 
I watch and listen through every round of the entire draft.

I perfected my system last year .... toggling between ESPN and NFL Network coverage on TV while listening to The Ticket's coverage on the radio. The Ticket's coverage is great - thorough and with a very heavy Cowboys focus.

So the TV is usually on "mute" with the radio on. But when something looks interesting on TV, I turn on that sound just loud enough to drown out the radio.

and sometimes I just "multitrack" - with TV and radio sound on at the same time. Listening to both.

It drives the family crazy, but it is only one weekend per year after all.

i agree but i'm saying NOW...obviously the two TE set was scrapped in the middle of the season. Fasano either wasn't playing well enough or the Tuna realized it isn't 1990 anymore. I'm pretty sure that was another thing that Parcells messed up on
 
For the last 2 years I have been having draft parties. I will throw some Ribs and chicken on the grill , my wife will make some potato salad, tunafish salad and vegetable dip. I will pick up a case of Corona and watch the entire draft(both days). This year will be the 3rd annual and I am thinking about deep frying a turkey.

Even now, I can't justify this as being a poor pick. We've got a back-up capable of producing at a very important position if our pro-bowler goes down...not a bad thing.

I understand the frustration at LT, but at least we've got something there in McQuistan...behind Witten we had nothing.

I don't know. I guess you could be disappointed, but I can't justify dubbing someone a poor pick simply because you wanted someone else...particularly if that someone contributes, and shows the potential to start in a pinch. IMO.
 
well, i live in florida so everyone is going to be watching, i actually dont have to work for the first day of the draft because where i work the owner is going to be closing the shop up for that day so he can also watch it
 
watch it w/ my friends, get our own big board

I have a huge party at my house.

Invite my buddies and if the weather allows...it's grillin time.
Burgers and dogs with appetizers.

I have a crock-pot in the shape of a football.:laugh2:
By the time the draft rolls around I am so hungry for anything about football...It's like Christmas in April at my house.

I have to say it's one of my favorite times of the year.
 
This will be my first draft as a married man; I've watched the first day religiously every year and tune in sporadically around where Dallas should be picking on the second day.

I'm sure the wife will ask me what I'm doing, how it's remotely even interesting, complain I don't do enough with her, asking me to go to Target to buy TP, angry that I'm refusing to go, slam the door viciously, call five minutes later and apologize, etc.

I won't hear a word she says the entire time.
 
My brother and I always watch the whole first round up to when Dallas picks, then we wait for interviews and stuff of the player we drafted. After that we keep shifts for lookouts on the next Dallas pick.

I'll also be in the process of making excuses why I can't go out with my girlfriend while tending to cut our phone calls short.

That's me. One browser for the CowboysZone, one for the chat room, one for TheTicket, the TV beside my monitor on draft coverage.......I'm all over day one. Pretty much the same story part two on Sunday also. My wife hates that weekend more than any other of the entire year.
 
Well this year I have no choice

Because Saturday 28 Apr I have more important outing than the Draft

Scout Fair at Reliant Park but hey the kids have fun and that is all that matters
 
From the first overall pick through Mr. Irrelevant, I'm fixated on the coverage and the internet--in particularly CowboysZone. The only thing that sours the experience every year is listening to Mel Kiper yap way too much between picks. I've thought about also tuning in to TheTicket, etc., but I'll probably end up as a case of information overload after two straight days. And either beer or mixed punches are a must for me--mainly to settle my stomach whenever Kiper speaks.

True, I tried that last year, and will again this year, but I enjoy ESPN's coverage better (except for Kiper). I guess Forrest was right after all. Stupid is as stupid does. :eek::
 
The thing I hate about the second day is that they really only discuss the results of Round 1, namely the top ten.

On the bright side, if you are a Skins fan, you can watch them pick relatively early and have your whole day ahead of you.
