What's the opinion on Hurd and Austin?

I think both of these guys are just in their 2nd years no?

They seem to catch the ball. Hurd seems to be agile and quick. Austin fast and pretty big. They haven't been dropping the balls sent there way which has been key for a number of first down conversions.

I think that at the least they are solid number 4 and 5 guys on the roster. If Stanback is 6. Do you draft a WR or go after a relatively young top notch FA wide receiver to replace Glenn. Even if Glenn can play for us next year his snaps are limited. I'd be surprised if Glenn plays next year, but I guess you keep him if he can still contribute and have him as a role player and not a true 2nd receiver. But what does that mean then. Crayton gone? Keep the 3 young guys and draft a WR high or a top FA WR?

It seems that in 90% of the cases it takes time to groom a WR drafted, even if taken real early with a big resume.

Back to the original question. I'm pretty happy with the contribution of Hurd and Austin. They weren't high picks, don't cost us much, and as 2nd year guys, they still have an upside (especially Austin with his size/speed IMHO).

Maybe they are never more than 4 or 5's but they are helping this team.

You are going to need some new blood there. At least one of current WRs will not be back next year.

I'd like to see a first day pick for WR.

Hurd seems pretty good after catch, he was making people miss and breaking tackles on a few plays today.

Austin made a touch catch for a key first down on a ball Romo put up pretty high....but yeah, Hurd is more polished at this point.

However, Austin continues to look good on KRs. He definetaly has a future on the team in that regard.

Either way, both guys are going to be reserve receivers next year. If I had my choice, I'd take Austin since he's such a great returner and can contribute more to the team.

I supsect we keep them both and try to add at least one more actual starting WR next year. I'm not sure if either of them is ever going to be more than a #3 type.

I think we take a shot at resigning Crayton and maybe even Glenn if we think hes healthy. But we really need some new blood at WR.

I think both are very promising. Hurd looks like he has a little TO in him. Austin reminds me of Patrick Crayton when he was first starting to get playing time. I think both could be good #3's and Hurd I feel could possibly be a solid #2.

Hurd seems to run the slant very well. I wonder why we don't run that play as much.

Like Austin's potential based on his speed. He has only 4 catches but got a big gain against the Skins or Jets can't remember which. Caused PI's against Pack with that speed and made a nice third down grab to get a first down tonight. Love him on returns.

Hurd's a gamer. He won't wow you with speed, but he's got good hands, and he's a real good blocker. Everyone remembers when he destroyed Archeleta in the Chicago game on a T.O. pass, but my favorite was when he blocked the snot out of 2 guys on Barber's first td run in Detroit.

I think both guys have a place on this team in the future as #3 or # 4 receivers. I'd like to get a young guy in Day 1 of the next draft, continue to develop Stanback, ride T.O. until he gets too old, and have those guys fill in the other roster spots. The 6th spot would come down to re-signing Crayton or relying on a healthyTerry Glenn. I think he's about done here with the knee problems.

I thought they both were very average tonight. They kept running routes too close to other receivers and handcuffing the passing game.

They are solid number 4 and 5 guys and have done pretty much what I expected from 4 and 5 guys. I agree with lane on Hurd, not exactly sure but I believe with more game experience he will get at least Patric Crayton better. Hoss you have my permission to make them run laps tomorrow. Or run the steps at Texas Stadium. Whichever you prefer.

I say that next week will be a statement game for each of them. Will their careers blossom or will it remain as only a 4 or 5 receiver?

We will soon find out.

You know, with Glenn not being on the field at all so far, tehy have basically been 3 and 4 receivers already. So they are growing up.

For being undrafted, we're getting great value out of them.

As said many times, I think Hurd is always going to be limited by his lack of speed and quickness. I'm loving that Austin is getting more shots because he does have that ability. I thought it was big that we went to him on 4th down tonight and he made the play.

If T.O's out next week, it sure makes you wish you could see Stanback, because he also has the speed to be a threat.

Hurd doesn't excite me at all. He's been given a chance all season and made very little of it. He's not really going to get much better either, I don't think. Austin has some upside and looks quite a bit better than he did in preseason. If nothing else, he should be the kick returner/4th receiver for a long time.
