What's the opinion on Hurd and Austin?

I'm not so sure Crayton will be on this team next year. We will need to address this position one way or another: draft or free agency.

I don't see Hurd or Austin having a future outside of a #3 option or as a special teamer. Stanback, if he can stay healthy, could outshine them all. Too bad he will need another year or two.

Either way, both guys are going to be reserve receivers next year. If I had my choice, I'd take Austin since he's such a great returner and can contribute more to the team.

Yes. Romo's going to be a reserve, too, if we keep him. He did alright whenever he got a chance, but he is just a UDFA. We better draft a quarterback in the first or second round to back up Bledsoe for a year.

I sure wish we could get Quinn. Now, there's a quarterback! But I'm afraid he'll be out of reach. Maybe Campbell.

I thought they both were very average tonight. They kept running routes too close to other receivers and handcuffing the passing game.

we always seem to churn the bottom of the WR roster and sometimes one of the WR's will make a catch and suddenly they have all the potential in the world. we can assume glenn will be gone pretty safely after this year. we can also believe that owens will be back - which is a very good thing. i'd put out a 3 year contract with options in it that increase pay but give us a bail at any given year if we need to and just keep picking up the option as long as he's playing at this level.

then we have crayton. great #3, pretty good #2. i would think he'd be a great eagles #1. keep in mind i only say this because he's NOT a #1 wr but the eagles are infamous for that. i DO NOT want him to go there, however.

anyway - WR is a definate need in the offseason. see what FA we can get and draft who we hope to be a future #1. i could see next year look like

1. owens
2. crayton
3. draft pick
4. stanback
5. hurd
6. austin if we keep 6.

slide in a top FA at #2 and they all drop and i think we cut bait on austin.

with the cap going up like it is and WR already being a position of need, he's not going anywhere, i'd not think. why lose a talent at a position of need?

Hurd could be a good #3. Maybe. Austin has the potential to be a good #2.
And that is all. Neither of these guys are ever going to be game changers or special.

when in the world has austin shows #2 potential? and if austin is a good #2 yet good #2's are not "game changers" - why do we care if glenn comes back or we resign crayton?

any player on that field can change the game. some positions are just easier to do that in than others.

Maybe....when he's on the field?

Does he get credit for the two PI calls which gave us great field position?
He gets credit for getting a step or two behind the secondary for sure. We've always known that he's timed extremely fast for his size, but it's another thing to see him do it on field in pads.

Is Glenn gone because he will be too expensive, or because his body just won't able to do what he has in the past?

He's not very expensive next year. In fact, he's cheap. It's completely up to him whether he plays or not. He could, but he'd be obviously risking more damage.

I think if Glenn is gone after this season, it would be because of physical reason, moreso than his salary. I still won't count out Glenn but I guess time will tell.

I've been expecting lot more from this season from Hurd and he has had oppotunites to show what he could do but he hasn't done much to my disappointment. Austin just haven't had enough time on the offense to show, when he did get on offensive plays, it's been hit and miss, can't make too much of it.

if that's the sole qualifer then switzers picks would have worked out.

you're not that good at sarcasm, dude. now care to tell me WHEN he was on the field THAT HE SHOWED this potential most of the NFL seems to be overlooking?

i don't care how much he costs. this year he cost us full salary and a roster spot that could have been moore and he's not even taken a snap.

time to cut bait and move on.

I think both of these guys are just in their 2nd years no?

They seem to catch the ball. Hurd seems to be agile and quick. Austin fast and pretty big. They haven't been dropping the balls sent there way which has been key for a number of first down conversions.

I think that at the least they are solid number 4 and 5 guys on the roster. If Stanback is 6. Do you draft a WR or go after a relatively young top notch FA wide receiver to replace Glenn. Even if Glenn can play for us next year his snaps are limited. I'd be surprised if Glenn plays next year, but I guess you keep him if he can still contribute and have him as a role player and not a true 2nd receiver. But what does that mean then. Crayton gone? Keep the 3 young guys and draft a WR high or a top FA WR?

It seems that in 90% of the cases it takes time to groom a WR drafted, even if taken real early with a big resume.

Back to the original question. I'm pretty happy with the contribution of Hurd and Austin. They weren't high picks, don't cost us much, and as 2nd year guys, they still have an upside (especially Austin with his size/speed IMHO).

Maybe they are never more than 4 or 5's but they are helping this team.

Larry

I think Miles is a great and solid KR for us, the guy just needs to learn how to beat the kickers, to break the big return! :lmao2:
Hurd IMO, still needs alot of improvement, but should be solid in the future.

I think Austin is the more athletic of the two, but I think Hurd is the better receiver.

I think he has better hands and personally, has made more clutch catches.

Personally, I think Hurd is as good as Crayton, but lacks the experience and his hand's are not as good as Crayton.

You do not want to roll into the Playoffs with Hurd, Crayton and Austin.

If nothing is done about this in the Offseason, the Wide Receiver position is going to be holding this team hostage and it will only increase Terrell Owens' leverage.

Yes. We should cut a guy who, if he recovers, is one of the most dynamic and dangerous receivers in the NFL so that we can squeeze another special teamer on the roster to be inactive on gameday.

This are brilliant plan.

It could have been Moore! Good lord...:lmao2:

I think we should acquire a young available veteran receiver through free agency. Experience does wonders and I don't see Glenn returning with age and injury proneness.

oh lord - one of the other reasons it's a PITA to post in here these days chimes in and has to run around insulting intelligence of others to have a good day.

you're right. it's much more brilliant to keep him on the roster and pay him millions a year when he's not played a single down this year.

what if he doesn't *ever* recover? it seems every time you and others find joy in the "he practiced this week!" it fades as his knee swells from the effort.

name 3 of his seasons he went the entire year w/o injury.
i'm an idiot for wanting to cut an injury filled career WR who didn't play a single down for us this year so we can keep him and HE CAN BE inactive the whole year.

if you want to talk, let's talk SP - but i do get tired of the "i must insult you at all costs" crap you fling about.
