You're like a two year old. People have to explain things to you time after time after time after time.

I understand that. However, I thought he would be active for insurance purposes in case of injury during the game. (Crayton or whoever). That would leave us with three wides if that happened. Either way, I was just wondering.

Four receivers active for a game should be plenty even if one got injured during the game. Especially with the Cowboys ability to use all three of their tight ends and also split Witten out wide to take up the slack. So, Glenn's injury does not necessitate activating Stanback on game day.

we carry 4 wr's and 3 te's.someone has to cover on s.t's
stanback is a guy who has to learn a new position and has to learn to be a return guy.
i never expected much from him this year and after missing camp i would say he will likely be inactive for most games if not all.
he needs a off season and a camp to learn what he is trying to learn. he is a tremendous athlete and was a good pick i think. but every guy is not gonna be an instant starter. some guys have to be developed. he is worth the time with his athletic ability

Three wideouts is plenty if one gets hurt. You almost never use a four-receiver set. And even if we absolutely had to, Witten is excellent when he lines up as a wide receiver.

Stanback wouldn't start on any special teams, and he wouldn't play on offense unless we needed a fifth wide receiver for some remotely possible reason. Until we play a team when we expect to use a lot of four-wide formations, until he becomes a special teams starter, until another receiver gets hurt or until he moves up on the depth chart, he's probably never going to be active.

Who would you have made inactive instead?

Potential Studs and Duds at the Combine
John Harris from CollegFootballNews.com has put together his list of player who will impress and who will disappoint exclusively for the NFL Draft Blog readers. Here is how he sees it:

Five who will impress at the Combine
1. Lorenzo Booker, Florida State running back - Speed and quickness. Quickness and speed. Two distinct assets for Booker... and he'll be given the opportunity to flaunt his skills in Indy. His burst and explosiveness will have some GMs and coaches dreaming up ways to get this guy the ball in space.

2. Adam Carriker, Nebraska defensive end - the last time the Combine had a 6'6", 290 pound defensive end, who wears the number 90, with freakish athletic ability, said individual went #1 in the draft last season. Carriker's biggest asset, his motor, won't be on display, but his size, combined with his quickness and speed, will make a huge impression...figuratively and literally.

3. Johnnie Lee Higgins, UTEP receiver/kick returner - the blazing Higgins might have one of the best 40 times in the combine and combined with his production as a senior this year at the wideout position, teams will take a hard look at this guy as a downfield threat.

4. Eric Wright, UNLV cornerback - If teams can get past the baggage...and that's a HUGE if, Wright has tremendous skills at one of the most coveted positions in the draft. The former USC corner should run extremely well and can cover anyone in the Dome in one-on-one drills.

5. Isaiah Stanback, Washington quarterback - Now, the caveat here is how healthy Stanback is and what position he plays, but if he runs the 40...teams will be finding a place for this kid to play. He was on the Washington track team and was one of the team's best sprinters. I don't think that he had a chance to fully develop as a QB, but he'll run better than Brad Smith, former Mizzou QB, last year and could be a 'slash' type player at the next level.

... has run track the last two springs, taking fifth in 100m at the 2006 Pac-10s ... best time in 100 is 10.48.

ran track for UW in the spring ... placed fifth in the finals of the 100-meter dash at the Pac-10 Championships ... was sixth at the West Regional meet at BYU, missing an NCAA Championships berth by just .02 seconds ... ranks among UW's all-time top-10 in the 100-meter dash (10.48, 8th) and 4x100-meter relay (40.07, 7th) outdoors, and the 60-meter dash (6.80, 8th) indoors ... 100-meter best ranks third all-time among UW football players who have competed in track (Ja'Warren Hooker, 10.18; Sterling Hinds, 10.27).

ran track during the winter, qualifying for the indoor conference championships in the 60-meter dash.

Yeah, that's all nice and good, but he'll ignore it.

100-meter dash: 10.48 seconds
60-meter dash: 6.80

If you were to convert that to a 40 yard dash, it comes to 4.14. But since you don't start the 40 at top speed, just add a variable amount of time to the start. The start is included in these times too, but there is a bigger sample of top end speed than in the 40.

Compared to Newman:

100-meter dash: 10.22 seconds (personal best, not in competition. I think)
60-meter dash:
6.67 seconds

40 yard: 4.06 (add start)

Compared to Jacques Reeves:

100-meter dash:
10.40
60-meter dash: 6.75

40 yard: 4.12 (add start)

So basically, if you want an idea of Stanback's speed, watch Reeves run (if he ever gets an INT again). Just imagine a bigger and taller Reeves when you do.

It's amusing that some people are so offended by Stanback's 40 time.

If you do a google search for this..you'll see a lot of different results.

I'd guess his time is around 4.5 to 4.6

In any case...he's probably not the fastest guy on our team.

It's not a big deal to me.

Newman has run a 10.20 and a 6.62, both in competition.

No NFL player has ever run a faster 60-meter time in a meet.

Jacques Reeves:

60-meter dash: 6.75

Reeves ran a 6.74.

No one is offended by his 40 time. They are mocking you making a big deal about it.

He's very fast. Much faster than you believe him to be.

I'd love to see Stanback play..and make a big time reception.

That's why I spend my money on the Cowboys.

Do I think he's a super star?

I don't know. He hasn't played yet.

Bull ..... you have been on the kids case since he was drafted .... you called it a wasted pick.

You are the one always bringing up his 40 time .... don't try and play the victim now.

He is much faster than 4.58 He is easily a low 4.4 runner. I have seen every game he played at UW.

Perhaps his size works against him when timing him in the 40. A bigger person (generally) takes longer to reach his peak speed. He probably has a damn good time in the latter part of the 100.
