Wilcox can make plays when the ball's in front of him. He struggles otherwise. I had high hopes for him developing, but last season really put a damper on that for me. He started losing reps as the year went on. Both to Heath and Jones.

You start losing reps to Heath, that isn't a good sign. Wilcox needs replaced on the 53.

I would feel pretty comfortable with Jones and Church but someone needs to be added in the draft.

- Church is an old skool, in the box safety that is a liability in coverage......but the guy can textbook tackle in 80-90% of the scenarios.
- Wilcox is our FS, is also a liability in coverage, looks to make the boom in head-on tackles, but seems to be 50/50 on tackles due to misjudgement of angles. IMO, he's a special-teamer and back up to Church at best and a FS-backup at worst. He was a pet cat of mine, BTW, but the dude can't work in space nor anticipate. Not BS'ing you, but I feel better with Jeff Heath back there than Wilcox.

Aside from Jalen Ramsey, the Cowboys have shown some degree of interest in Miles Killebrew, 6-2, 219, a hard-hitting SS with coverage skills. He's been an extremely productive tackler for Southern Utah throughout his career with 132 tackles as a senior, seven pass breakups and another seven passes defended. He also had a forty time of 4.49 to his credit. He's generally been regarded as a 2nd to 3rd round draft prospect.

We need to take a SS in rounds 2 or 3 of the draft.

Wilcox has the speed to be a FS but lacks the coverage skills. Moreover, he overruns and takes poor angles on too many runs. What's worse, is it seems like Wilcox is making a business decision by taking these poor angles. A guy his size and speed should not be overrunning players.

Agree definitely and when I noticed this above I knew he wasn't the ideal SS coverage safety who could also lay the wood that I previously envisioned given his measurables and moderately successful rookie year. I don't know what's going on upstairs with him bc he "could" be a good SS.

Here's to hoping we grab the best player in the draft in Ramsey.

Suddenly safety goes from question mark to potential for great strength.

I still think you can line both Jones and Ramsey next to each other.

Both players have enough versatility to their game to form a beautiful partnership.

I'm in the QB camp but would take Ramsey if we had that already in place, etc. without a doubt. The two SS coverage scheme has been a fail since they've settled for that standard since Woody retired. The only problem is we have the potential FS in Jones but have Church with LB/DL speed. If we go Goff and Joseph (may be had later?) in the second I would call that a great first 2 rds. I like his partner out of WV Dillon too if available in the 3rd as another alternative if Joseph isn't the pick in rd 2.

Agreed, I was disappointed as well.

Overlooked him, thanks for the info. Definitely has the tools.

Church is a favorite of mine, but his play last year was not what I'm used to. I personally always thought Wilcox was a SS (not a FS), wonder where he'd be at if he'd had more time at that position.

Wilcox has tucked some people into bed and kissed them goodnight out there, shows flashes of being an enforcer in the middle of the field.

Wilcox has the speed and tools to be a FS, but mentally I think he's best as a SS candidate.

I like him for depth going forward and for special teams, where he's very effective as well.

We keep bringing in corners etc yet we haven't heard a thing about Safety. Yes the draft isn't here, and we have NO clue what they want to do with Jones. Are they satisfied with these two or what? Is it feasible to cut bait cap wise? Just curious the boards feelings.

I'm not a fan of Wilcox, but I think Church gets way too much hate. Yes, at times he got exposed this past year but he is still a really solid player and probably the most reliable tackler we have on the team. I don't want him playing as a center field type safety, but as the dime linebacker and when he plays up in the box he is excellent

Wilcox lost his nerve after the broken nose and Church is a backup. We need upgrades...

I think they also worked out a kid from Boston College...think last name was Simmons.
