What's your comfort level with Tyron Smith?

I don't feel comfortable relying on him. Talent isn't the problem, being able to stay on the field is the problem.

His body is only going to continue to break down. Cowboys need to be serious about Plan B.

I agree with you Jake, after this past season of losing both OT's, it's obvious that at the very least, we need better better backup quality at OT, if not a replacement.
Tyron has always been a great LT but I agree, "staying on the field is the problem", and last season should be the ultimate proof.

Go with Tyron as your "plan A" left tackle but have a very good "plan B" just in case.

5 all day. I'm tired of worrying about him from week to week, year to year. He's done. If not, I'll be surprised. I miss the old Tyron Smith and I think he's never coming back to form.

We have drained every last drop of blood from Tyrons prime . Its time to bite the bullet and draft a fresh LT to protect our QB . This probably the second most important position on the team and needs to be addressed so Dak dosent come back from injury and get reinjured.

That said there is little chance it happens and Jerry will ride Tyron till he looks like the horse in Gone With The Wind

Love the guy! Hate he has more behind him than IN front of him.

Is he one that you kind of go like this?

1. 25%

2. 50%

3. 75%

4. 100%

5. Need to spend a draft pick, he's done.
50% because that’s about how many games he will play

50%. why? when he is healthy he is still top 3. but he is often injured with back problems and its not going away, so he will miss some games and he will be less than 100% on several others. so all in all, probably get 8 games out of him. I love the guy. he is fantastic. one of the best who played LT, should be a HOFer, but its time to find the next tackle and move on from smith. If by any chance Sewell falls to us at 10, he would be the only offensive player I would consider.
How many games do they play? Oh yeah, 17

So, the 8 games you mention is actually below 50%

I like Tyron but unfortunately he’s on the inevitable slide into retirement

You don't use a premium pick on a player you HOPE not to have to play. No higher than a 3rd rounder. But yes, insurance is needed. No question about that.

No. I you don't skip using a premium pick because you have a player you HOPE can still play.

If by some miracle Tyron can play, play the rookie at RT and put Collins back to LG, BTW that's assuming even Collins is ready to play... need a tackle regardless.

I'd flip that. I would keep Tyron as a plan B because he has entered the Sean Lee years of his career and cannot be counted on to give you a whole season. If he can be traded I'd say trade him and draft your next LT.

He's still good when he's on the field but he hasn't played a full season in a long time.

Just cause a guy hasn't played a full season in 6 years doesn't mean we shouldn't pay him 10+ million and pencil him in as day 1 starter. Jerry is very disappointed in some of you. Are you not true believers?

What bad NFL GMs do is wait until something is broken to fix it. Bad GMs (like JJ) believe in their dreams. Every year they believe the best case scenario for players who may actually be in rapid decline. Bad GMs believe the old saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” They end up drafting to fix problems instead of drafting to strengthen.

Successful GMs- you know the ones winning SBs- always have a worst case scenario preparation plan. They believe the worst can happen every year, therefore have less dependence on luck and more calculation on preparation for depth at certain positions.

I think Jerry and Stephen mostly only look at the starters depth chart of their roster when planning. Injuries happen to every NFL team at some point and some years you are luckier than others. But the better GMs are good at building a complete 53 man roster.

Regarding Tyron Smith. One of my favorite Cowboys of the last 20 years. Five years ago, IMO, he was THE best player on this team. Now, he’s a question mark. The first ability an NFL player must have is natural ability. The second is availability. Ty Smith has incredible athletic ability. But his availability the last few years is becoming a bigger issue. My comfort level with Ty Smith now is less than 25%.

If we can draft a great LT- maybe someone as good at T Smith, why wouldn’t you take him? It’s one of the hardest positions to find talent in this league.

One, there isn't a tackle in the draft as good as Tyron and to go offense again in the first round with the franchise's worst ever defense in your back seat seems irresponsible at best. I'm not making any moves until I know his medical status. Period.

What's funny is the fans that are screaming "i'm over him, trade him" would all be the first ones on here crying if we traded him and he went back to his pro bowl form.

Those same fans who scream trade him would start posting "cowboys front office is a joke, if it was a corrective surgery and it worked then why in the hell did we get rid of him" when they months prior agreed with the front office......

75%. I'm hopeful he finally got the surgery and rest he needed to play 4-5 more years. I still want them to take Sewell if he's there as insurance (and as an LG in the meantime) so we can have a totally dominant offense and not crater if Tyron is out for a few games.

I choose 5. Great player wasted by Jerry. He is an injury in waiting at a key position. Time to move on.

On a scale of 1-10, i'd say a 4. which is not very good. He will get hurt within the first 4 games of the season and then got to rely on a backup. So we best have a very good backup. He will be playing most of the season.

I don't think he's done but we need to find his replacement. He's in a tough place

5. - Love the guy, but he is hurt all the time. He's like Sean Lee, can't stay in the game. Dallas always hangs on to injury prone players, gotta let them go.
