It's not what the thread called for but when we cut Ware it just made my stomach turn. I still don't like to think about it.

As for this season, the move that will pay off the most will be drafting Gregory.

I can't think of what is the worst -- I think not paying Murray was an excellent decision.

Favorite - Not paying Murray franchise RB money, signing Hardy and Collins, drafting Gregory, not moving up in the draft for a RB.

Worst - no long term deal for Dez.

Those mentioning Mo need to keep in mind his contract and the fact he will be here this year. Also Carr won't be dealt with until June or later.

Best: I saw them as having to choose between Dez and DeMarco and I think they made the right choice.

Worst: Well the offseason isn't over yet, but any trade for Peterson that involves 1st round picks would fit that bill.

Best:Getting Hardy on a game to game deal. The OTT suspension doesn't detract from that.

Worst:Three tackles in the draft/UDFA, two picks for a TE and running back ignored.

Signing McFadden? I agree not paying Murray sucks, but as a result of that decision McFadden is a good thing.
It's not like they signed McFadden so they could not sign Murray- quite the opposite

It was a weak stab at filling a void with a disappointing underachiever.

How is signing a guy to a one year deal with little guarantee a bad deal when you can cut him and it costs you $25,000.....this team can use a few more deals like that....He wasn't signed to counter Murray,

He was a signing in response to losing Murray.

I don't care what they are paying him, he is a weak replacement.

Had we traded up, we probably don't get Gregory. I'm fine with not trading up in the first but I wish we had traded up in the third for another back.

Gurley or Gordon would have went further in advancing the Cowboys than Gregory.
It wasn't the defense that got us to 12-4 last year. It was the ground game.

I understand your point and I too really liked Gurley and Gordon. However, a trade up to get one of them would have cost the Cowboys not only Gregory, but Byron Jones as well.

That is two blue-chip type players at impact positions that Dallas doesn't mind spending money or picks on... traded for one RB which happens to be one of the positions that Dallas doesn't feel is worth spending big at.

Typically, teams will go with the CB and let the RB position fall to less expensive (either in $ or picks) players.

Also typically, teams will go with the edge rusher and let the RB position fall to less expensive players.

They certainly wouldn't exchange one RB for a corner and an edge rusher.

Best Move: Letting all those players leave in FA, netting us a ton of picks in next years draft.

Worst Move: No long term Dez Bryant contract

Best move : no contract for Dez. Stop running around throwing up the X
Irvin said before packer game he didn't like how these guys looked in pregame.

Eye of the tiger baby

Worst move: would have been signing Murray and/or signing AD for crazy picks and money

I don't have a "worst move"

Best- not overpaying Murray
Worst- Carr and Mo are still here

I agree that letting Murray walk at that price was the best thing to do. Claiborne is only here because of his guaranteed contract. No real options with Claiborne. Carr is on borrowed time unless he takes a pay cut. And Jerry is maximizing his leverage by waiting to deal with Carr at a later date.

I hated the fact that we whiffed on RB in the draft as well and I am definitely not a Green fan at all.

But ultimately he cost the Cowboys Langford, Allen or Davis the way things rolled. Not really sure those three in particular would be starting quality.
We should have tried to move up by trading away or fourth. Sure we would probably not have gotten the LB we drafted, but we have 1,000 already on the roster.

Signing McFadden as a counter to losing Murray. Hands down the worst move. Best move is easy--Collins.

I have to agree . Gregory was a steal in the late second, but Collins was s gift from above. DMC was a bad move if he was signed to replace Murray. I think the overall lack of a plan at the RB position was a huge mistake.

Collins and Gregory are obvious. The move to grab Swaim is my choice.

Worst move? I think Green was a reach, but I'm reserving judgement. Grady Jarret, Michael Bennett or Stefon Diggs would look mighty good on the Cowboys roster right now, though.

Looking at Green you have to see that there was an early run on offensive linemen, and the Cowboys wanted to make sure they got their swing tackle.

A lot of people thought Frederick was a reach too.

Offensive line is a big deal to this team, and I think the depth they're creating is going to keep our offense productive for many years to come.

Your analysis reveals a misunderstanding of the linebacker position. You see the position as overcrowded, only because you don't realize that these linebackers serve very different purposes. Many of them are here specifically to shore up what was an atrocious special teams last year, and weren't brought in to start or even be back ups.

Don't be surprised if we took 7 or maybe even 8 linebackers to the 53 man roster.

Favorite - signing Hardy. Off-field issue aside, when it's all said and done, he will make a HUGE difference on defense. No question biggest addition to the team.

Worst - Hayden or the 1T in general. I don't understand it but Rod loves him.

I don't think there has been a lack of a plan. I think the biggest mistake as it relates to running back was getting McFadden instead of Spiller, but I think there was a plan.

Try to re-sign Murray for something around 4-5 million per year.
Short of that pad the depth at the position by getting McFadden, though not depending on him to start or even make the team.
Try and draft Gurley or Gordon (more specifically Gordon) if he falls to us in the draft.

I think we're at the stage where a lot of things didn't swing the way we wanted to, but they didn't want to overpay for the position, and honestly there is a lot out there suggesting that is a smarter move than most people want to admit.
