My least favorite genre of films. I guess I'd have to say "Silence of the Lambs" though.

That's an easy one, The Exorcist. That movie scared me before I even watched it as a kid.

I watched that movie many years ago when it was still playing in movie theaters. I was so nervous before watching it because I heard so many stories of how people were losing their minds while watching it. I watched it and then thought it was only mildly scary. But I will admit I was a minority of my friends who thought that way who saw it with me.

My favorite scary movie is Halloween and Halloween II. It looks stale by today's standards, but in its day I loved it as a scary movie. Now, no movie scares me. It doesn't matter what they throw at me. I yawn and move on.

Boy, where do I start.

No way I could list just one.

So here I go...

The scariest movie I saw as a pre-teen: "Legend of Boggy Creek". Saw it at the local theater as a new release. Scared the living bejesus out of me.

Early teenage– "Jaws." I was 14 at the time. Make an incredible impact on me.

Late teenage– "Dawn of the the Dead". The original. Fudged my learner's permit card so that I could get it to see it. The film was rated X for violence and no one under 18 could get it. Well, I was 18 for one night. :) An amazing film. Couldn't believe how scary it was and how incredible the special effects were (at the time).

Went to see a ton of mostly slasher films from about 1980-'85. "Friday 13th", "Fun House", "My Bloody Valentine", "The Shining", "The Fog", "Hell Night", "The Things"... All good films, some better than others.

Over the last decade or more horror films haven't made as much of an impact on me although I've found "Cloverfield", "The Mist", "Jeepers Creepers", "Abominable" and "Quarantine" to be good flicks.

Back in the early to mid-70's there was for a time "the made for TV movie" which featured some very good horror films, such as:

"The Night Stalker" (the movie)
"Don't Be Afraid of the DarK"
"Bad Ronald"
"Duel"
"Killdozer"

All are highly recommended for the serious scary movie connoisseur. :)

1: Alien
2: Frailty (One of the most underrated movies ever IMO)
3: Silence of the Lambs
4: The Shining
5: Event Horizon

I also really like the Sixth Sense but it doesn't creep me out like the one's above do.

Funny that you should mention Carpenter. I thought that he would not ever top Halloween. Then he directed the remake of The Thing--which is also in my top five horror movies of all-time.

Even the original score is outstanding. It's base is simply a human heartbeat. Genius.

I can still remember exactly what I was thinking the very first time I watched it. I kept asking myself, "Why is that guy in the helicopter with the rifle constantly shooting and missing that dog??????"

Some of those shots were hitting the target... Excellent movie...
