The Omen
Prince of Darkness
Prince of Darkness was one of John Carpenter's cheeziest films, but I loved it just the same. The part at the end where the young woman dives into the liquid hell dimension still gives me chills.

...just caught myself. My apologies if you're referring to Dracula|Prince of Darkness.:

Boy, where do I start.

No way I could list just one.

So here I go...

The scariest movie I saw as a pre-teen: "Legend of Boggy Creek". Saw it at the local theater as a new release. Scared the living bejesus out of me.

Early teenage– "Jaws." I was 14 at the time. Make an incredible impact on me.

Late teenage– "Dawn of the the Dead". The original. Fudged my learner's permit card so that I could get it to see it. The film was rated X for violence and no one under 18 could get it. Well, I was 18 for one night. :) An amazing film. Couldn't believe how scary it was and how incredible the special effects were (at the time).

Went to see a ton of mostly slasher films from about 1980-'85. "Friday 13th", "Fun House", "My Bloody Valentine", "The Shining", "The Fog", "Hell Night", "The Things"... All good films, some better than others.

Over the last decade or more horror films haven't made as much of an impact on me although I've found "Cloverfield", "The Mist", "Jeepers Creepers", "Abominable" and "Quarantine" to be good flicks.

Back in the early to mid-70's there was for a time "the made for TV movie" which featured some very good horror films, such as:

"The Night Stalker" (the movie)
"Don't Be Afraid of the DarK"
"Bad Ronald"
"Duel"
"Killdozer"

All are highly recommended for the serious scary movie connoisseur. :)
I wonder when the sequel to Cloverfield will come out?

Nope, you got it right, I meant the cheezy one. For some reason, it really got to me at the time...

Quite a few to list, but the one that got it all started for me was "The Birds" by Alfred Hitchcock.

Shortly followed by "The creature from the black lagoon". These were before the Exorcist, Omen, Amityville Horror, etc.

Me too.

I've always enjoyed the giant monster movies. The bigger the monster the better in my book. :)

Definitely not slasher movies or anything like that. I just really don't get into those.

Twisted horror movies would definitely be the type that I like. To me Halloween 3 was the best Halloween movie. It had nothing to do with Michael Myers. As noted eariler, Silence of the Lambs or In the Mouth of Madness, or even several Stephen King horror movies.

Slasher movies always turn me into that person moviegoers hate to deal with at the theater. They make me laugh and talk at the screen.

"haha! It's about time for you to die! Don't go by the window! Oops! Now look at you. Butcher knife through the neck. Told you so!"

I stopped going to them by the mid-80's. They were always falsely advertised as horror. I have never seen a slasher movie which could be defined as horror in my book.

Horror movies prompt me to consider variations of good and evil, the possibilities of fiction becoming reality, etc. You would never know I was sitting next to you in a theater during a true horror movie. It holds my complete attention.

Friday the 13th type movies??? No one sitting next to me would be able to watch the movie in peace. "Why are you running? You know that you're going to trip somewhere right about... Dang! See??? Chainsaw to the head. You're dead. Hahaha!!!"

My wife and you would get along fine. She adores Godzilla movies. Can't get enough of them. :)

If I wanted to watch a flick with Jamie Lee Curtis in it, I would watch Trading Places. :laugh2:

It has nothing to do with JLC. Halloween III is a HORRIBLE movie by any standards, and the dumbest idea i've seen anyone create for a sequel. Hey, let's make a completely random movie, that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with any of the other Halloweens, and call it Halloween. :bang2: Oh, and it's about "killer masks"....scaaaarrrrrry.

IMO, slasher movies are the dumbest idea ever created which makes Halloween 3 an improvement over all the other Halloween movies. ;) :D

I like a good slasher flick... Not as good as a monster-theme movie, but I'll take it.

I gotta say though, that "Saw", the first one was an incredible slasher film. It's didn't scare me, but the ending was stunning, simply stunning. I enjoyed that immensely.

One thing I don't care for in any of these movies is a rape scene. I greatly disliked the "Halloween" remake for the rape scene and the ones in the remakes of "I Spit on Your Grave" and "Last House on the Left", were incredibly painful to sit through.
