I live in PA but have been a Cowboys fan my entire life. The first football game I can recall watching was on my birthday. It was the Super Bowl between Dallas and Denver. Maybe I fell in love with the star and Roger Staubach. It was never about the cheerleaders!!!

So what is your story and what state are you from?
This pretty much sums up my story...im from PITTS-BURGH and i was 11 yrs old when i first became a cowboy fanatic! I thought Roger Staubach was a god,and i loved the star of course but it was the DOOMSDAY DEFENSE that sealed the deal for me,Randy,Harvey and Too Tall were all my heros, hell, when i first started playing in midgets, i played line, just so i could be like randy white. I caught a little grief at home cause my dad is a huge STEALER fan,but that was about it.And 32 years later my love for the star is stronger then ever:star::star::star::star::star:

I'm from Sydney, and back before the days of cable in Australia they used to show one NFL game every Sunday afternoon - I'm talking 1974 here.

I was six years old, and I distinctly remember a Cowboys-Commanders game and falling in love with the star. Of course, it wasn't just that - it was the whole way the team carried themselves and the utter class that was Coach Landry that really grabbed me.

Once you're hooked, that's it. I became an NFL fan and Cowboys fanatic for life. Loved Danny White, Too Tall Jones, Randy White and the great Tony Dorsett, suffered through the Steve Pelluer/Gary Hogeboom years, was over the moon when they drafted Troy Aikman and then sat back and watched in awe as the Triplets destroyed the NFL in the early-mid 90s.

Of course, suffered with everyone else during the Quincy/Chad/Wright/Leaf debacles, but loved the Tuna coming in and turning the place around and for unearthing the next great QB (yeah, he is or will be) in Mr Romo.

Really love this current group and the thing that's really impressing me is how they seem to be playing with a level of maturity and confidence I haven't seen from them before. I think this season has the potential to be something very special.

How 'bout dem Cowboys!!!!

Cool thread and great reads by all...I was 5 and living in the Detroit area (early 70's). Though I knew about the Lions, I really didn't understand or watch football. For Xmas, I got one of those football games with the little plastic men on the stands...you know the one...you place them in formation on a metal football field that vibrated when you switched on the power button and the men would all move with the vibration. The two teams were the Chicago Bears and the Dallas Cowboys (I had know idea about either at the time other than my older cousin was a HUGE fan of **** Butkus and so would talk about the Bears to no end!?

I was also fascinated by the star on the helmet of these little plastic men...it seemed so heroic. That image sort of stuck in my psyche until years later (mid/late 70's) I was watching a game on TV with my family and THERE THEY WERE!?! The guys with the star on the helmets! And I was fixated...first time I had EVER sat still for a sporting event on TV, except for maybe the Detroit Tigers since I loved baseball at the time. The thing that got me was the pre-snap movement...the shifting of the backs...the up and down movement of the lineman to get in there set formation. I mean seriously! That was the most stone cold, bad *** thing I'd ever seen! And then to see them go into the shotgun! And the comebacks! They were the most exciting, innovative team in ALL of sports...not just football. And I have lived and died with them ever since :) - even won my first bet with them which was in SB XII...and of course my brother welched on it...

Inherited liking the team from my father.

Similarly, I follow the Braves because of my grandfather.

I went to my first game during the 1988 preseason against the Oilers. I think the Cowboys lost something to the effect of 54-10 and there were loud chants of "Swee-ney!" during the game. I didn't watch much of the rest of that season though.

I started regularly paying attention during the 1989 season. It would figure that the 1-15 season is the one where I actually became a fan. I very much remember the Washington win. I also remember listening to the Cardinals game where Aikman got knocked out. Little bits and pieces of that season still bounce around in my head like the Falcons game, but not much else. I was only 9 or 10 at the time.

Danny White. My family had ASU season tickets and once the former Sun Devil took over the team, I adopted them. My first vivid football memory was fishing on the banks of Lake Pleasant outside Phoenix with my Dad, listening to the 1980 Atlanta playoff game on a transistor radio. I've never wanted to watch that game because imagining it on the radio was what hooked me on this team.

With no team in AZ, the Cowboys were on TV every week. And my Electric Football game from Sears was the Cowboys-Steelers model. It was meant to be...

Live in IN, born in '73. I have a distinct early early childhood memory of being drawn to what? The star on the helmet. Yes, thats right, the star on the helmet. I also remember ready a Tony D kids level biography in early grade school library.

The only thing i remember from the book was him talking about being in the car as a kid, and his dad got in but he didn't recognize him 'casue he was covered in oil or grease or something. I read that book almost everytime we had library time. Sad that's all I really remember.

I'll will be honest, I rooted for them I guess in early childhood. But I wasn't obsessed until the 90's.

Added note, older brother of 6 years is a steelers fan. He's my only sibling so I can't disown him. Yet. If they win a seventh title anytime soon....I will have no brother.

I was born as a cowboys fan. My Dad was born in Ft. Worth in 1955. He's been a fan since they were established. My first memories of watching the Boys was yelling "Too Tall, Too Tall". I tell people my Dad raised me to be a man, that's why I'm a cowboys fan. I was born a fan, and I'll die a fan.

Watching the team go down in flames vs the Browns in the 69 playoffs 38-14. As an eight year old kid thought they had the coolest uni's. For some reason loved watching Bob Hayes and Lance Rentzel play. Been a fan ever since. Had to deal with that awful loss to the Colts the next year, but then was rewarded with Roger and the Superbowl in 71.

January 1978 SB XII

It was the first NFL game, I actually sat down and watched till the end. I knew there was a Dallas Cowboys team, but didn't know any of their names until that game. I was always riding around on my bike in those days and didn't watch much TV...especially on weekends.

After that game, I got a little #12 jersey and wore it proudly to school.

I was 9 yrs old.

Was the Ice Bowl for me too. Born in Texas, my dad at the time was watching it on our black and white TV. Looked riveting. He was a Cowboys fan, I was like 5 years old. Never paid any attention to football before that game. Our mom wanted us all to go out somewhere, I forget, but Dad insisted on staying and watching this silly game on TV. Me and my twin brother got dragged off with Mom (while Dad remained behind to watch the game), but I never forgot the Star, and became a fan that day. 43 years of loyalty have followed, through thick and thin.

And always shall be.

My step-father got me hooked on the Cowboys in 1977. I was 10 yrs old - didn't really pay to much attention to football prior to 1977. First year as a fan and we win the Super Bowl how great is that! So I've been watching and following them for 32 yrs. My wife has been a fan longer than me, and of course my four daughters are following our path. Hate the Steelers, Commanders, 49'ers, Eagles, and Giants (I wonder why??).

1976. My friends and I had our first (kids SB Party in the basement) Most were bandwagon fans and the Steelers were their team that year, because they were defending champs. Me being me, I went against the grain, the Cowboys lost but it was a great game.

Growing up in Rochester NY (about an hour from Buffalo) I had a great 90s:D
Imagine being the only Cowboy fans (the wife and I) at the Dallas Buffalo SB
parties. Man those were great times. Thirty depressed Buffalo fans and me doing the happy dance smack in the middle of all of them.

The huge come from behind SB beating Buffalo was as sweet as it gets.

Everyone in my whole family is a Cowboys fan. So when I was born Nov. 26th, 1964, I was born a Cowboys fan, (I like to say that), I was wearing a Bob Hayes jersey in a picture when I was 2yrs old. That is 40 something years of being a Dallas Cowboys fan.

I know there are a heck of a lot of people who has lived longer and has been a fan longer. But I plan on being a fan longer than anyone, because I will live till I am 140yrs old.

God himself will come get me and say it is time for you to come home and leave this earth.
