I had gotten off of a plane w/ my family at JFK in Dec of 1978. We had just escaped from Iran and my grandpa was waiting for us...holding a Dallas Cowboys jacket for me! Been a fan every day since! :)

My dad forced me to. I remember one NFC Championship game against the 9ers, I told my dad I wanted the 9ers to win. He made me watch the game in another room until I wanted the Cowboys to win. It was pretty soon after a Jerry Rice touchdown got called back that I started pulling for the Cowboys. I'd say that was when I became a Cowboys fan.

My first Christmas I remember (at 2) I got a full cowboys uniform, helmet and all. My dad was a big fan until Landry was fired. Then he quit. I stayed on and became big fan after the 94 championship game. Been a huge fan ever since.

I'm a yugin but I grew up learning football watching the 90's destiny and that is what lead me to them. Not to mention the skins were one of the last teams to allow black players on the team. Considering the demographic in the area, we found it very insulting....that is why there are so many Cowboy fans in DC, most people don't know that.

I became a fan in 1960, my freshman year at the Univ of Dallas.

I was at the '66 Championship game, the '81 Championship game and at the Seattle game in '02 when Emmitt got the rushing record.

I was born in VA, raised in SE Texas, lived 40 years in CA and am back in Beaumont w/ an elderly parent. I remember when Wade's Daddy was HC at French High here in Beaumont. I would like nothing better than to see Wade get a SB w/ this team, but this year will be tough. I think the league will be "helping" NO because they are playing well and are one of the few teams to never have made it to a SB...

I became a fan because of the early 90's media hype. The next time you want to complain about press coverage, whether go or bad, just know that multitude of fans are coming into the fold as a result.

Keep up the good work Werder and JFE. :D

I was born in a manger in a little town called Bethlehem...

Ok on a more serious note, I became a Cowboys fan when I was in my early 20's and moved to the Dallas area early 80s . I had a great job and was a highly competitive state and occasional national tournament level racquetball player and played at was then known as the Irving Athletic Club.

At times I met Cowboys players there during the football offseason, played and referee'd some of their matches during their off-season tournament with other players of opposing teams. Rafael Septien was a serious and excellent player, also Bob Breunig was into it among a few other football athletes.

Before I moved to Dallas I was not that big of a football fan, more into baseball. But the Cowboys changed all that as well as having the privilege of living in Texas. Awesome state and people.

An incredible amount of beautiful single women were around at the time and if you were a even a moderately successful guy in decent shape, not hard to look at you could pleasantly occupy yourself most days out of the week.

I live in PA but have been a Cowboys fan my entire life. The first football game I can recall watching was on my birthday. It was the Super Bowl between Dallas and Denver. Maybe I fell in love with the star and Roger Staubach. It was never about the cheerleaders!!!

Mainly I remember the 1980's Cowboys we were real good the beginning of th decade and I loved Danny White and Tony D., but there was always someone better. I cried when Dwight Clark made that damn catch. So it was only fitting that my proudest and favorite moment as a fan was the NFC Championship against the 49ers when Aikman hit Harper on the slant. I knew at that moment we are going to be Champs. I had waited my whole life......

So what is your story and what state are you from?

Dang Joe, your beginnings with the Dallas Cowboys pretty much parallel mine. I grew up in the great state of Texas, but have lived in PA for the last 3 or so years. Although I can't recall much of anything about the Denver/Dallas Super Bowl, the 80's was my beginning... Tom Landry, Danny White, Dorsett, Tony The Thrill Hill, Drew Pearson, Randy White, Ed Too Tall, Harvey Martin, Everson Walls, Doug Cosbie, Rafael Septien, Robert Newhouse, Ron Springs, Texas Stadium, etc., etc.

I remember loving the players. Loving the uniforms. Loved watching the games and just remembering how much the Cowboys meant to my older brother. I think I fed off my older brother and his passion for the Cowboys. I remember after one hard-fought loss, my bro was crying. It hurt me to see that. But it is something only a true fan would understand.

Hell, I even remember wanting to catch the very beginning of the TV series DALLAS every Saturday night, just so I could listen to the theme song, and see the overhead-aerial view of Texas Stadium, because that is where my Dallas Cowboys played.

1980 is my best guess. I was 6 years old and became a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Here is my story.

I am not from any where in the US when I became a football fan. I came from Taiwan and when I was in Middle school in Taiwan, The kids there usually loved about the NBA or maybe MLB. They will never heard anything about Football. Nothing about it. But at the time I had read some sports magazines that had some NFL information. I remember that dated from 80'.

The most impressive story from NFL in that magazine is the Chicago Bears and the "Refrigerator" Perry. They won the Super Bowl that year with Jim as the Quarterback. Since then I start to like the American Football.

When I went to the College, 49ers' is very good at the time. One of my best friend in the College has a satellite dish in his home. Sometimes we would watch football game at his home and the first football term I learned is "fumble" because my friend shouted during the game and I don't quite understand what it was during that time.

After college, I came to US for my graduate degree in Dallas, Texas. Now you probably know why I became Dallas Cowboys fan. I came in Dallas at 1994. That is the year they lost in NFC Championship game, I am so upset and sad that I can't speak a word after the game. I also remembered the next year we won the Super Bowl with my girlfriend watching the TV by my side. Now she is my wife. After the win, I watched the coverage all night long. That is a un-forgettable experience.

Now I have a family with 2 kids and live in Minnesota and I have the Sunday Ticket too. Last year we drove all the way from MN to TX for the Thanksgiving game and witnessed Ware's 3 sacks performance.

Sometimes I always told my Taiwannese friends that I probably am the most knowledgeable football guy in Taiwan. LOL

Hope this story interests you. I LOVE FOOTBALL and COWBOYS.

Excellent story my friend. And they say the Steelers have more fans. Pfft! The Cowboys are global!

Back when I had just turned 6 years old and the Cowboys were about to play the Broncos in SB XII, my dad said "Root for the team with the star on the helmet". You see, my dad had a good amount of money riding on the game because he felt there was NO WAY Morton's Broncos had a chance against Staubach and the Cowboys. He was right and he won his bet.

The thing is, he meant root for the Cowboys just for that game. I lived in NY at the time and my dad is/was a die-hard Giants fan. He didn't hate the Cowboys back then because of the Landry-Giants connection and the fact that the Giants were not competitive/the Cowboys helped him win money. My rooting for the Boys wasn't a big deal to him then.

Most kids back then rooted for the Steelers or Cowboys since at least one of those teams played in the SB almost every year in the 70's. Most kids eventually became Giants (or even Jets) fans. Some of us stayed true to America's Team. I liked the Cowboys colors and the star. I became a big Randy White fan and never turned back.

Ironically, my dad and I have a crappy relationship these days, and the football thing is certainly part of it. Sounds stupid, but you know how little things turn huge sometimes. He clearly regrets ever having told me to "Root for the team with the star on the helmet", but I'm so thankful he did.

Living in NY/NJ all these years, I've taken a lot of crap from Giants fans, but nothing feels better than when the Cowboys come out on top.

God I hope we get #6 this year...

That is awesome BIGDen. I love reading the stories of those who never lived anywhere near the Cowboys, but picked up on the star, or the looks of the uniforms, or whatever the reason was, and became a die-hard fan. It's just really a cool thing.

Way back when, I had family backing me and also because I only lived 3 hours away from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. So Cowboy's silver & blue ran through my blood pretty much the day I was born. I didn't have a choice.

Good stories from everyone.

Been one for as long as I can remember. My dad made me lol. Grew up watching Staubach and just loved him. I guess cause we knew when the Cowboys were on we had to be good and quiet so ended up just watching and learning, at an early age I could name the whole team and their numbers, positions, stats, etc. Made my daddy proud :) Then there was the thing when I was in first grade and we had "tell what kinda jobs your parents have" day, I stood up and told everyone how my dad use to play QB for the Cowboys but had an injury and was replaced by Craig Morton (cause that's what he had told me and I believed him lol) Didn't find out that wasn't true til a few years later, was kinda disappointed lol. But have continued to watch and yell for them..forever..and I know I always will. I'm now married to a Giants fan (what???) so it gets a little wild around here at times lol.
