When was the last time a team loses up with vets and made a Super Bowl run? More often loading up on vets leads to demolishing your cap. Just ask the Commanders.
There is a difference in loading up with vets, and sitting idly by while quality players are signed, then spending money on the nolan carrols of the NFL. We had a glaring hole at S, and we had the best of the generation sitting there wanting to play for us, and we let him walk away over a couple million bucks..... after having tried to give up a 2nd rd pick for him 5 months prior.

The Pats have done it with key well picked vets for years and was the major contributor in their early SB runs

We’ll try and draft their replacements along the way. Jerry appears to be planning on keeping his core of talent as long as he can. And why he’s staying away from big splashes in FA.
We can’t offord the big splashes. We will be lucky to keep what we have. This will continue next year as well. Let’s say we keep DLaw and extend Dak; that pretty much finishes us this year. Now, we might be able to move some money around to resign Cooper; but, we have Byron Jones and Zeke next year. I’m not a cap guy, so others might have some imput, on this topic. In the past, we pushed money into future years for some players; however, if you look at our current roster: Tyron Smith’s (back), Frederick’s (condition) not really attractive to extensions. We restructured Lee’s contract which saved some cash. Positive if he can stay healthy??? Crawford, can we cut this guy with an already thin line?

Win now mode... lol

We haven’t been in that mode since 1989. Maybe 1995.

Jerry had pressure to win initially losing a million a month and he had pressure to win another one with Jimmys team after he left. And needed more than 5-11 to get stadium built. That’s it.

The pendulum swings from wild Jerry on the left to ultra conservative Stephen on the right. Rarely do we sign good players at a good price. It's either grossly overpaid or we low-ball a guy who laughs as he signs elsewhere for twice per offer.
