When does the narrative for Garrett change?

Funny thing is a majority of those teams have done far worse without those coaches than with and some haven't sniffed a Super Bowl. I suspect the 49ers will be next if they don't make the right hire.

Agree. Todays league is as much about " perceptions" as it is about reality...

Who has considered Jason Garrett to be an innovative coach? If there was one trait I would list when it comes to Garrett, innovation would not be one of them.

Maybe not innovation in concepts but terminology. Can you recall words/terms like "process" and "right kind of guy" used before Garrett? I can't.

Process was lifted from Nick Saban.

Right kind of guy has been used by many people, specifically Brian Kelly since he was hired at Notre Dame in 2009.

winning two super bowls, one with Romo, one without, that should clear out most of the doubters, but there will likely always be stragglers

bilicheck has never been to a superbowl without brady. does that change your mind about bilicheck being a great coach?

I don't agree with you at all. It's a safe assumption that this board is a good representation of your average die hard Cowboys fan. Yeah, you are always going to find idiots on here that really should not be called a die hard fan, but for the most point, everyone here is a die hard fan. After three straight 8-8 seasons it was beyond a vocal Garrett hating club, you would have been hard pressed to find many Garrett supporters on this board after last season.

with that said, the haters are often more outspoken and louder and post more. they are often trolls. you can count on one hand the number of haters and they produce 40% of garrett posts.

not many coaches are. you don't need to be innovative to be good. most NFL coaches, use the same offensive and defensive philosophies, with slight twists depending on the players they have. it takes talent to win. no coach regardless of how innovative their systems are can win without talent. what garrett has done is bring a focused philosophy, a process, the right mind set and change I culture, attitude and accountability. no different than most other winning coaches

not sure I understand the mentality. does bilicheck need to win a superbowl without brady for him to be considered a great coach?

No, because he has been touted as a genius and the best HC by the mediots for years so why would they change that now?

The narrative has already changed when Romo is getting Pimped for MVP by some and Garrett is getting pimped for Coach of the year.

However the narrative can change back to the old one in a heartbeat if the team struggles in the playoffs.

Winning changes everything. If Garrett wins consistently over the years he will be considered a good or great HC. Now, there is no doubt that there are some "Garrett Can Do No Wrong" promoters here who have seen greatness in spite of the results on the field and have been banging the Garrett drum for a long time, so much so that its been a tired old narrative which has caused most to just roll their eyes when the Red Praise Choruses are posted. And there a some who prob truly hate Red, but that in all probability is a small number of people.

The vast majority of fans and pundits have just watched what has transpired and based on watching the games feel that Garrett has not done anything special prior to this year and actually has not done as well as he should have done with the on field results prior to this season. And while the "Garrett Can Do No Wrong" crowd has a justification for every gaffe/blunder or failure most recognize its been a real problem prior to this season.

Garrett still has a lot to prove. This is only ONE year out of 4. If this team can win it all this year he will have far less to prove in the near term and will be on a super long leash. If we fold like lawn chairs in the playoffs most will prob feel that not much has changed really. What if this team goes 8-8 next year? How many that have jumped on the Process Bandwagon will be jumping off in short order?

The narrative will change with continued success, and that means winning for more than just one year. Other than that, any seeming change is just temporary and fleeting until it is shown to be a long term success story.

Like Romo, Garrett's career has been much-maligned. Does the narrative for him change if he leads the Cowboys to a deep playoff run? Or will it take another season with a deep playoff run? Will people start describing him as a winner and as someone who has never had a losing season?

The thing is..

Romo and Garrett are tied together as if it were a rope at the waist.

Lose and the rope loosens and critics try to divide the two saying one or the other has to go..

win and the rope tightens and they are more closely aligned and the praise flows to them both.

Its a conundrum.

So we'll see.

The deep seeded hate for Garrett and Romo among the football illiterate is truly stupid and irreversible.

Dallas could win ten championships, and these clowns would rather credit bin Laden than admit being wrong.

I'm pro Garrett so I think your misinterpreting my meaning, I'm responding to what I think his naysayers will say

To answer your question re Belichick, I think he's the best coach in the history of the league and I think if he coaches after Brady, he'll continue to succeed

yeah a lot of naysayers who focus on the gossip aspects of things as opposed to football.

I like bilicheck. he is a great coach. I wouldn't say he is the greatest. but among the best. there is a start next to his name for cheating. specially that since then he has made it there, but not won it. despite that, given number of 10+ win seasons. post season appearances and superbowl appearances parallel what Landry did with the cowboys for the 18 consecutive years
