This is a fascinating article from Five Thirty Eight (t's an ESPN Metrics Blog) with several great visuals on how big the Cowboys are nationwide in television markets and perfectly exemplifies why all those America's Teams polls are a laughing stock whether you like them or not.
Sometimes as Cowboy fans we can forget how really big the team is nationwide because we're so locked in.
The Cowboys truly are everywhere. As a friend of mine who is a die hard Buffalo Bills fan once said to me - "Dude, I know your offensive line just as good as mine and I can't name more than 3 other offensive lineman in the league."

Here is their summation--
...Still, the main takeaway from this map is that them Cowboys are on TV a lot all over the place; they are by far the most broadcast team around the country. Over the past six seasons, they were either the first or second most commonly broadcast team in 95 of just over 200 markets around the U.S.,4 a dominance that appears on the West Coast in markets including Seattle and Los Angeles, and on the East Coast in Jacksonville, Florida, and Greenville, North Carolina.
