After watching the play again, Rico was in great position to handle a high lob type pass. Dak zipped it over his head instead. I don't know if it isn't being taught or practiced, but that type of throw isn't what is needed in that situation. And with the CB raping Rico like that, expecting a call is actually one of the reasons you run that play. But this is Dallas, so no chance we get that call. If Brown does that to Ertz against the Eagles, I 100% guarantee it's first and goal at the 1.

He might have got the call had the pass been in the same zip code
I hate that route
Rather just run him straight at defender and turn around and use his side to block out the defender
But the pass has to be catchable

Seriously? Rico was out muscled from beginning to end on that play. There was NOWHERE Dak could have put that ball that would've let to a Rico TD.

No, it wasn't an overthrow. Gathers didn't get good position, and he got tangled up with the DB, which restricted his ability to jump and reach. Had Gathers not been tangled with the DB he would have easily been able to catch the ball.

Looked like interference to me. Still- seems unwise to use Rico for that play only. Easy for defenses to predict what's coming. Either play Rico or don't, but if it's only one play a game just cut him.

Wasn't it just the play before where Dak missed an open TE for a touchdown? That was the opportunity to "bury" the opponent.

The route was perfect. That throw requires some finesse. Rico had the defender "boxed out" just like they draw it up in practice. I just wished the play caller would let Rico get a few warm up in game catches to get into the flow of the game.

No, Rico did not have the defender boxed out. The defender was side by side with Gathers, and was able to get tangled up with Gathers as they both tried to jump and reach for the ball. I thought Rico did a poor job running the route - should have taken a few hard steps as if he were running to the corner of the end zone to get the DB leaning or to take a few steps himself. As it was, Rico just kind of trotted up to the DB and turned around.

I do agree that Rico would be more ready with at least a little action prior to having to make that play.

It doesnt make the playcall any better if the matchup's right but you know your QB isnt able to make the throw.

Rico was awful on that route. He looks like someone who has no idea how to get open in that situation. Our big monster red zone TE lost in a physical battle. He should have easily brushed the db aside. He just doesn't know what he is doing.

There was nothing wrong with the throw. Gathers didn't get good position, and the smaller DB won the physical battle.

I looked for that in the replay since there was clearly contact between the players, but the DB was facing the QB and jumping for the ball just as Gathers was, so I don't think there was anything to call.

It wasn’t shocking they didn’t flag it. The refs were letting them play. A few plays most refs would have flagged they let slide. As long as it’s straight across the board I am ok.

Was a odd play on that roughing call on Dak. I didn’t hear the whistle early.

That was a strange play. I thought the refs were going to pick up the flag when they started talking about it.
