OK, but I don't see Ware getting 17 sacks in 12 games. I honestly thought Ware would be putting up bigger numbers this year.

Not me.

I was realistic about it...

Figured a dozen.

San Diego and Merriman get gashed for nearly 300 yds by a rookie RB, the same RB Ware and the Cowboys held to 60-some yds the previous game. Ware has 7 sacks, Merriman 5.5. Merriman looks very average now that he's off the juice, playing outside of Wade's attacking style, and not having the advantage of a great offense that builds leads that let you tee off on the QB.

All the Merriman threads have been moved to w w w . s t e r o i d s z o n e . c o m

got juice? :laugh2:

PFW Whispers...

The rumors of the Chargers using talented CB Antonio Cromartie more on offense aren’t rumors anymore. Head coach Norv Turner admitted the coaching staff has had talks about Cromartie’s potential as a part-time wide receiver, a move that could occupy safeties and create more space for TE Antonio Gates.

Prior to OLB Shaun Phillips’ groin injury in Week Eight, Chargers defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell had begun to send Phillips and fellow OLB Shawne Merriman at the quarterback together more often than he did early in the season. Former defensive coordinator Wade Phillips often attacked with both of his best pass rushers, and insiders regularly questioned why Cottrell wasn’t doing the same in the first month of the season.

Ware threads have subsided somewhat as well.

7 sacks is just great IMO. Ware is the best defensive player on the team in my book. Are you saying he is not having a good year?

There have been several statistical analyses done about Merriman's 2006 season. One showed that Merriman feasted on extremely poor pass-protecting teams.

Just going against the Raiders and that bed-and-breakfast protection scheme was like facing Winston Justice twice a year. ;)

Nobody on that D is doing much. You'd think that the unstoppable Jamal Williams could've done more to stop Peterson, wouldn't you?

Ah, I remember the good old days (several months ago) when everyone said our defense couldn't possibly get the same results SD got because their front seven was so much more talented than ours.

Whoops.

We do not have anyone as good as Castillo on the line- but overall I think our talent there is about equal. Ellis and Ware about equal Merriman and Phillips- and that was when Merriman was on the juice. Merriman is about 30-35% LESS effective now that he is off the juice.

I agree. Funny when I mentioned how having another player opposite your main pass rusher it makes his job easier yet I was blasted by a few. Then again I was defending Ellis and the lack of talent he has had around him. Now that Ware is playing opposite of Ellis I think Greg will have his best season in sacks.

yeah but my point is the coach took the ball out of peterson's hands. we weren't blowing out the vikes to were they had to stop using the running game.
So how do you rationalize Peterson running only 12 times for 112 yards against GB (same amount of carry against the Cowboys)?

YEah. I wouldn't mind having that "Nobody" Antonio Cromartie to replace Jaquez Reeves though.

Ware leads Merriman in sacks, TFL, and as of a couple weeks ago, he led Merriman in QB pressures and QB hits (not sure if he still does).

Ware >>> Merriman

and has been since we drafted him

brad childress is clueless. look at the last few games where he has givin peterson 20-30 carries. I'm pretty sure he got a good amount in philly and they kept him in check. but look at what the kid did against chicago and the chargers. my point is i think we got lucky that childress is a dumb coach and stopped using his best weapon against us and the packers.

I'd agree that childress is a horrible coach.

Peterson, when he carries 20 or more times, the Vikings are 2-3. Against eagles, he gained 70 yards with 20 carries, against detroit 20 for 66 yards, not exactly great numbers. The Vikings did lose a game when peterson had 25 for 102.

The problem with Vikings is that due to their one dimensional offense (no passing game), they get behind frequently and they end up trying to pass to catch up, the problem is that their passing game is probably worst in the league. I don't have numbers but I'm pretty certain that they tend to run more in first half than second half, unless they are in the lead, which doesn't happen often.

He stopped using Peterson because he had a costly fumble inside his own 10-yard line with less than 12 minutes to play in a tight ballgame. Before that, there weren't many other chances for Peterson to get the ball -- unless you think the Vikings should never pass the ball (even on third-and-long) or that Chester Taylor shouldn't get any carries.

Look at some of their possessions -- we stuff Peterson on first down, stuff Peterson on second down, then force an incomplete pass on third-and-8. What were they supposed to do, run Peterson again? We stuffed Peterson on second-and-16 from their 1 -- was he really going to convert on third-and-15 from the 2? It's tough to feed your running back when you don't get a first down on eight different possessions -- often because that running back got stuffed, or because he fumbled on the very first play.
