Where are the Rob Ryan lamenters today?

One thing about Ryan he loves moving guys around trying to confuse the opposing QB, problem is he often gets his players confused on where they need to be lined up.

I hope they beat The Vikings, I don't want them to come in at 0-3. Dallas never does good in situations like that. The saints problem is no running game, and now Ingram is out for a long time, so they are thin. Our secondary is playing decent, and we should get OS back, and that will make it even better. Brees is likely to put up 400 if we don't get a pass rush. However. I've seen a big improvement with our speed and athleticism up front, so we might surprise them with that too. We need to beat the Rams, and then go into that game on a little roll...I'd love to beat the Saints at what will most likely be a home game for them. I hate to say that, but from what I'm seeing, the Aints fans are gobbleing up a ton of tickets...

You are smarter than that oversimplification of things. Ryan's defense wasn't good in Dallas. Whatever the final ranking, they just weren't good and could not stop teams when it mattered. Right now the Saints are 30th in defense. That doesn't tell the whole story or is a great predictor of what will happen the rest of the year. One game does not define the Dallas defense, either. I don't think Ryan is horrible, but I also have not seen anything over the years to say he is great, either. That 5th for the Saints last season was an illusion. There were a lot of factors that showed they truly weren't the 5th best defense in the league.

I've never said they weren't bad last year. I'm not blind to that or pretending it didn't happen nor have I tried to revise history. Why do you keep trying to insinuate that I did? The Dallas defense would have been no better with Rob Ryan as DC last season. Only blinders would keep someone from seeing that.

You can speculate and make things up all day if you like. I'll take the reality of what actually DID happen.

You want to lump 'bad' together and paint with a broad brush as if it somehow helps your case, which it doesn't.

This organization made a change in defensive coach and scheme and got measurably and statistically worse, not better. And the defense that the guy we fired took over, got measurably and statistically better, not worse.

My fandom doesn't require me to cover my eyes to the truth.

The truth is Rob Ryan wasn't good enough when he was the DC in Dallas. You are covering your eyes if you think otherwise. They didn't make a mistake firing him. They may have made a mistake hiring Kiffin and/or switching to the 4-3, but that doesn't mean they messed up moving on from Ryan. You brought up trying to fit round pegs into square holes when they did switch to the 4-3. Well Ryan did have square pegs when he was running the 3-4 in Dallas and it didn't work. It was a bad defense and blew several games. It is not a broad brush to say that defense was very bad under him. I'm glad he is gone. I'm glad Wade Phillips is gone and I actually like Wade, so it isn't all about personality with Rob Ryan. I just don't think he is good enough. Him being unlikable is just a bonus.

Most of the other years between 20 & 30
