Where are the Rob Ryan lamenters today?

Jerry might have officially done it, but he was driving Garrett and the other coaches crazy.

Glen "Stretch" Smith said that there were numerous defensive meetings, some that Ryan called, that Rob wouldn't even show up for.

And teams tire of a DC that is in constant head-coach-job-interview mode.

What has Rob Ryan done? Ever? He had a good defense last year when his opponent never had the ball and was down three scores all the time.

Rod Marinelli poops bigger than Rob Ryan.

I notice you didn't answer why Jason hired him in the first place if he was so terrible.

I like Marinelli just fine and think he's a good coach. (Although your resume comparison was way off as Marinelli has only been a DC for three years and for one team in his career.) And I'm hardly some huge Ryan fan. I just find the thinking that every bad decision is Jerry and every good decision is Garrett very disingenuous. Most people including me don't like the way Jerry does things, but you have to at least be fair in your criticism of him. And he was the driving force behind getting rid of Rob and making Garrett hire a real OC, so maybe he deserves credit for that.

Of course yesterday we played well on both sides of the ball and won, so people are on board. If we go in the tank on O and D, I'm sure many will blame Jerry for meddling.

For what it's worth, both Ryan's brothers got smash sticked to lose their games.

Which is fine by me, I dislike the whole Ryan clan.

I don't like them either but If I was Rex I would be putting a beat down on Marty Mornwhatshisname for calling that time out. lol

Watch them come to Dallas & hold us to 3 points or something.

I hope not but Murphy's Law & all that stuff.

Football is weird.
I would not be surprised if New Orleans capitalized on our tendency to shoot ourselves in the foot. DeMarco Murray has been outstanding running the ball through two games but he is also averaging a fumble a game. That needs to stop asap. Romo's accuracy improved this week over his throws versus the 49ers but he audibled unnecessarily out of another run play against Tennessee. His decision-making must also improve accordingly. We must stop handing opponents giftwrapped opportunities during games.

The problem with Rob Ryan is he loves to blitz, and is somewhat predictable about it. The blitz leaves you open to the big play if they don't get there. If the other team has a pretty good idea it is coming, then the chance for a big play against it is exponentially greater.

Ian Fitzsimmons of 103.3 was working the sideline of a Jets game last year and when Rex heard he was from Dallas he said unsolicited, "You do know that Jerry fired my brother, right? Not Jason."

And if Ryan was that bad everywhere he'd been, why did Jason hire him in the first place? Or are you claiming that was Jerry...

Thanks for sharing this. I hadn't heard it before.

I've believed Jerry was behind that firing all along. Going back to my weird overreaction to the clip of Jerry shaking the players hands going into the locker room after a win and ignoring Rob. Not sure what went down, exactly, but from the outside looking in, it seemed like Jerry disliked Rob and wanted the change made and Garrett acquiesced.

I just hope Bree's doesn't carve us apart! I'm counting on a good game.

Wow!

Only on a Cowboys message board I guess...

Two games somehow negates a top 5 defensive finish last year?

And a decent defensive performance against an outright lousy quarterback somehow means the Dallas defense is now good?!?!

Marinelli gets a pass for 'misfits and vagabonds', as if Ryan has a defense chock full of Pro Bowlers?

These claims are laughable.

this is a Cowboy message board who enjoy dancing on other teams graves even if it'd early ,shoot me

He had like three blitzes here....once an offense figures that out, it's not very hard to deal with. I think to an extent that his style can make a change for a year or maybe two, but it isn't one that stands the test of time.

I never bought into their top 5 ranking last year. As with most NFL rankings, it wasn't truly indicative of how the Saints defense played. For example, they finished 15th in the Aikman Efficiency Ratings last season. They also played several average to below average offenses last season. Really about 10 games they played last season were against offenses that aren't dominant and would rank low on most ranking systems, even the NFLs. I'm not surprised on how they look now and it has nothing to do with the Cowboys.

I am not shocked that the Saints D is struggling. I am not putting it all on Rob Ryan, just like I do not give him full credit for their good year last year. I am no fan of the spawn of Buddy and I am not at all sad we moved on form him. I much prefer Kiffin and Marinelli to him by far, and guess what? So does his right hand guy Eberflus. Why do you think he chose to stay here instead of following RR to Nawlins? Ryan was allegedly doing a lot of shirking his DC responsibilities while he was here. It burned other guys out who tried to pick up his slack. No one, including me, is saying he is a bad guy. Part of me enjoys seeing Payton rip him on the sidelines. Part of me hates that. I think New Orleans is not a team to take lightly because of 2 games. Payton can be mad at him. He's the boss. It's his right. Maybe it is warranted. I do not know. I do know this, Payton should be just as mad at his Offensive guys because they don't exactly look (right now) like they are going to turn on that Saints dominance we've all seen in the past. The fingers point both ways I think.

I just hope they're still a bit disorganized when we play them again. Some payback is in order, if we're good enough to dish some out. I'd really enjoy that after the whooping we took last season.

Yeah what he said!

Yeah, what you said, what he said.
Also, that era of our team is dead and stinky ... can we please move on. We've got RoMc and the Marinelli Magic working right now. All we need is for Jerry to keep stroking the Beast and for Jason to keep him in Beast Mode.:starspin:

Too early to judge one way or the other. Ryan did a very good job last season with the Saints. This season is off to a rocky start no doubt...and his defenses have in the past taken a downturn in his 2nd season.

The Saints have some defensive talent that I definitely wouldn't mind the Boys having:

- DL Cam Jordan (the 25 y/o had a combined 20.5 sacks between 2012 & 2013)
- FS Jarius Byrd (the 27 y/o has already notched 34 passes defensed, 22 Int's, and 12 forced fumbles)
- S Kenny Vaccaro (was having a pretty solid rookie season in 2013 before the injury...offers some versatility)
- OLB/DE Junior Galette (potential RDE in Marinelli's scheme at 6-2/258 with some speed/power...originally a DE)
- DL Akiem Hicks (The 6-5/324-lb. 24 y/o, had 4.5 sacks & 56 tackles last season playing 3-4 DE)
- LB Curtis Lofton (the 28 y/o has 5 straight seasons of triple-digit tackles...plus 26 passes defensed & 10 FF's)
