Perhaps the alternative would not be a Bum Bright clone but maybe a Robert Kraft/Peter Holt type. You know the type that relishes winning above all, and hires the very best there is to ensure this.

Well said. Why is the alternative to Jerry Jones a Bum Bright type owner? And I'll add this which I'm sure people will get into a hissy fit over. An owner is not as important today as he was 20 years ago. With FA and the salary cap, most teams play on a level playing field in terms of what they can spend. It's not like Jerry goes out and buys talent like the Yankees do every year to try and win the World Series. There's only so much an owner can spend.

Jerry has actually been a huge detriment in the FA and salary cap era because, if anything, a strong HC who can develop and lead players and a quality GM is an absolute must when you have limited resources to spend. It's the only advantage a good franchise can truly have in today's day and age.

This is like saying be glad you have Quincy Carter, because you could have Babe Laufenberg.

I did this thread months ago and asked which franchise would anyone trade the last 25 years with. Most people wouldn't answer and just bashed JJ, but seriously what franchise would you trade results with? The only strong option would be New England, but they still have the same amount of SB victories.

New England- terrible through most of the 90's, underwhelming the last 10 years
NYG- solid throughout, some bad years, but 3 rings
GB- solid but unspectacular, 2 titles
Pitt- same as GB, down times haven't been as bad
Philly- steady regular season success, ZERO titles
Dallas- started great, terrible 10 years, steady but disappointing Romo era

Let's say Dallas won in 1992, 2000 and 2009 instead of 92,93 and 95. Would the Jerry haters even exist in Dallas?

For me, the 3 Lombardis bought the team a 10 year grace period. No whining allowed. The post Parcells-Romo era has definitely been filled with heartbreak, but it's not like they haven't been competitive and fun to watch. I don't really value playoff victories as highly as others do. If they aren't going to win it all, I don't find a lot of joy in saying at least we won a Divisional or Wild Card game. Obviously it's better to win those games than to lose them, but if they aren't going to the Super Bowl does it really matter to a team like Dallas that has 5 titles.

Perhaps the alternative would not be a Bum Bright clone but maybe a Robert Kraft/Peter Holt type. You know the type that relishes winning above all, and hires the very best there is to ensure this. Maybe the alternative would have looked at the past at the 20 straight years of winning seasons, 18 of 20 years in the playoffs, and bring that back.

The Cowboys were America's team long before Jerry arrived and were the TV spectacle of that era just like they are now. To believe that no one but Jerry as owner would have brought us 3 of 4 super bowls in 5 years, is just stupid. Perhaps another owner brings Jimmy Johnson and gets out of the way and wins 5 straight, or 8 out of 12.

I think Jerry is a great owner, and should be just that, the owner. He can market his team, his stadium and his brand all he wants. But he should hire the very best to run the football operations.

But ....but .... but, that wouldn't fit the OP's Jerry Jones worship. Don't you understand .... the choice is ONLY between a drunken, megalomaniac owner like Jerry and a disaster like H.R. "Bum" Bright. After all, there is no, repeat no, chance a better owner could have bought the team - at least in the OP's delusional fantasyland universe where all praise must go to Jerry for all of our bountiful successes .... 18 YEARS AGO!!! We'll just leave out the fact that Jerry had as much to do with that success as the water boy, the equipment manager and the locker room janitor (actually, looking back on it, their contributions probably had more of a direct effect than Jerry did). Except for writing the checks, of course .... and believe me, I AM grateful for Jerry hiring Jimmy and being rich enough to make happen what Jimmy envisioned!!!

Hmmm .... wonder why the Patriots didn't NEED a 10 year grace period with no whining allowed? They just kept on winning and going to playoffs (I know, that word is foreign to many of you. You may need to look it up) and Super Bowls.

Wonder how that happened? After all, it only makes sense that if Bob Kraft was as smart as Jerry Jones that after the Patriots second Super Bowl win he would have immediately driven Bellicheat off and hired someone who had been eating hot dogs on his couch for almost a decade so he could prove that any coach could win with the team HE had assembled. Just like Jerry assembled the Cowboys (extreme, major sarcasm).

When are folks going to realize most aren't complaining about super bowls. It's the circus atmosphere, the bungling of a team at every turn and at every football business level.

We want improvement. A team that's competitive. Going into a season without crossed fingers and still relying on major injuries of other teams star athletes to have a chance at a victory.

Exhorbantly over-spent salary cap on a roster that's not even in a cowboy uniform.

The owner/GM blantantly admitting we as fans do not matter. Stupid, drunken, not thought out grammar school statements by the man who owns the team and is directly responsible for it's course.

Super bowls are a pipe dream dude. Playoff victory would be helpful. 10-6 would be helpful. Choose a plan and stick with it would be helpful. A staff held together for more than 2 seasons would be helpful, etc.

The Pats play in a weak division and if you think they are happy with the last 10 years you are wrong. They have made the playoffs, but have no rings. And once again, we can only find one franchise that is absolutely doing it better than us.

Blah, blah, blah.......It's the same old whining.....what you said hasn't been the case here in a long time......they have been competitive...they have made the playoffs or been eliminated in Week 17 in 7 of the 8 years Romo has been the QB.....you say the Super Bowl is pipe dream, but you dump on the successes they actually have.....if they had 2 or 3 more playoff wins in the last 8 years would that really mean something.....ask Philly or San Diego

And in that "weak" AFC east, we would still have been "0-fer" since 2009 as far as the playoffs and probably wouldn't have won the division in 2007 or 2009.

Jerry bought the team and we were so bad we had the #1 overall pick. A roster devoid of talent. A rich history but a lousy owner in Bum Bright.

What if Bum had sold to another lousy Bum Bright type owner?

Jerry bought the team, brought in Jimmy and in short order we had 3 Lombardi's to hoist. The joy of being a Cowboys fan was back. Granted its been a long run of futility, but we do have those Lombardi's. We are the premiere sports franchise in the entire universe. We have the best stadium.

Maybe overall it hasnt been all that bad having Jerry for an owner.

Would you have rather had another Bum Bright type owner instead?

While I give credit where credit is due regarding this issue, what does having a nice stadium have to do with anything? They could play in the Grand Prairie Gopherbowl for all I care, if they are winning. We aren't the premiere sports franchise in the world, that would title would belong to Real Madrid.

the 3 super bowls were complete luck.

19 straight years of losing kind of puts a bad taste in your mouth after 4 years of winning.....

Jerry is the malignant cancer that will drown this franchise before it's all over.

Gotta love people living 20 years in the past and trying to give our moronic owner credit for Jimmy's work.

Doc Holliday: And you must be Ringo. Look, darling, Johnny Ringo. The deadliest pistoleer since Wild Bill, they say. What do you think, darling? Should I hate him?

Kate: You don't even know him.

Doc Holliday: Yes, but there's just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him.
